Mod testing

I'm trying to make my own little base in a mod and I tried to load up the mod to test it but it doesnt show up in the data files list.

I did a search and found something about putting a custom.ini file in the root folder to override something or other.

Could someone explain this in better detail?

Thanks!

Edit FALLOUT.ini found in MyGames/MyDocuments/Fallout3 and change the line bInvalidateOlderFiles=0 to bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

Your mod esp file should be in the Data folder of your main Fallout 3 directory.

Ok heres what I did.

I followed the instructions in the tutorial and opened GECK and loaded fallout3.esm and then saved and named the file Vault74.

Now I then built a section of the vault and saved it, it didnt give me any options of where to save it, just brought up the data window and I can see it there.

When I searched for Vault74.esp I found it and tried to move it into the data folder but it acted as if the file is already in there and made a shortcut instead, but I dont see the actual file in the folder anywhere.
