merrillh
Hello all, I have had Morrowind for quite a while, gathering dust on the shelf. However I stumbled upon your site and it motivated me to give it a go. I have D/L'd a dozen mods (farming, housing, stockmarket, partner), and dived in. I am taking it slowly, yet a problem I have is the different types of attacks based on moving the mouse. Well, I think I am supposed to move my mouse while swinging. I am not sure. I tried a search for attacking in these forums and didn't get what I was looking for. Perhaps one of you kind and wiley vets of Morrowind might help someone that is eager to learn. Thank you kindly,Munkie!
Torn
Well I'm not too sure about the PC Version (as I have Morrowind for the Xbox) but I'll do my best. When playing, you move your mouse to change your swing type correct? Using the d-pad on my Xbox you eg. hold down or push up for a thrusting attack. Push to either side for a slashing attack and without moving you do a normal slashing attack. From what I can guess, try this: move your mouse in the direction of the attack type you wish to use (slash, chop or thrust) then click the attack button and if all goes well you will do the chosen attack. I hope this was of some help to you. I haven't been playing Morrowind too long myself and as you can ascertain from my post count, I am by no means a vet. :)
merrillh
That is a great start, I am alt-tabbing out to the game as we speak and I will give it a shot. How can you tell that you did a different attack? Does the blade swing differently? Thank you ever so kindly. Munkie!
Torn
No problem. To tell if you did a different attack, it will look different. Chop: Sort of a 3/4 overhand swing, coming down.Thrust: Straight forward stabbing motion.Slash: Horizontal attack, the blades comes across the screen. Hope you can get it working for you, if not I'm sure someone with a bit more experience in Morrowind will help you. B)
wallernotsowelsh
For the PC, i do believe that if you are running/walking forwards then you attack, (whilst still moving) you do a thrust attack. If you are moving sidewards (left or right) you do a sidewards swing (cant remember real name). Finally if you stand still you so the regular over the head attack. Oh and check in your options to see if 'always do best attack' is on, because then you will only do the strongest attack for that weapons (ie a spears' 'thrust' is usually the best)

The sideways swing you're talking about is a Slash. Just letting you know :) :nazgul:
merrillh
*sighs deeply* Ok, this is not working :( I don't see the sword coming from a different direction. Do I move the mouse diagonal, or move my foot work diagonal? Not to mention I keep having the game crash to the desktop everytime I try and use a healing potions the game goes to the desktop, and crashes. I did load about 12 plugins, and when I try and not use them I get errors. *Sighs s'more* Also, how does one use that ring of healing they give ya in the beginning? I put it in a quickslot but no healing happens. It still has 20 charges. Thanks for your patience... Munkie!
DreamOfTheRood
Oh, dear. Enchanted items are used by pressing 'r,' which will load them up and present your hands on the screen. Then, press the left click button. If you're trying to strafe, then press 'a' or 'd.' While doing so, then press the left click button on your mouse. That will give you a slash attack.Which mods are you running?

eviljim
also to note. you can set the option to use the best ttack everytime. this can be useful since different wseapons have different attack levels for each swing type.
