Steam Controller support and SKSE

Has anyone managed to make Skyrim work with Steam controller support and SKSE? I'm using an XBOX One Series X controller, but Steam allows to customize the inputs of any controller, allowing me to press keyboard keys with button combinations.

If I force XBox controller support for Skyrim Special Edition, it doesn't work. The game reads the controller directly, ignoring the custom inputs configured on Steam.
If I force XBox controller support for SKSE instead, then the controller doesn't work anymore, the game recognizes it but none of the buttons or sticks do anything.
