akshayshah13
I enjoy TG in skyrim better than I did in Oblivion. In Oblivion, there is absolutely no thrill apart from the last quest where you steal elder scroll, and why the hell am I supposed to steal it? coz some guy wants his curse to be lifted and get his wife back....... I mean what the hell! After doing that you get a mask that becomes practically useless if you had completed DB questline prior to it... So what's the point? In Skyrim, you actually do 24 quests minimum (apart from main questline of course) before you can become guild master, you have to work for your title, not simply replace previous one becoz either previous master betrayed the guild(Astrid) or got killed (Savos Aren). As for Maven, I say 'Aye, I hate that b&@*$!!!'. But never felt urge to kill her as until you side with imperials or hand over riften to them during season unending, you hardly need to even talk to her. But hey, TG need some influential person at their back if whole skyrim knows their base of operations and yet they hope to survive..... at least that makes sense. avallanche
The role point of her in the game is to show how there is good and bad people in any faction, independently of what you choose. By become the jairl of riften she is just assuming public a position that she already has. More disturbing is the fact that she sleeps with her own son... xD They really should have fixed that. matortheeternal
Yeah, this is why we have mods. :)
MODinsane
Vilja doesn't like her, good enough for me, as she mentions a few times. Maven is indeed Imperial supported, I didn't go the Imperial route, I don't want to be a Roman! lol "Skyrim belongs to the Nords!" Move along, Imperials and the Elven Dominion. Your days are numbered.
GetTheJojDone
I honestly don't understand any of the hatred the Black-Briars get. It seems to me that the people who hate Maven and the Thalmor just don't understand that Skyrim would be boring if every character was a Nord who blusters on for hours, like so; "SOVNGARDEIMPERIALDOGSDAMNELVESTALKINGCATSANDLIZARDSFRIGHTENMETALOSSKYRIMBELONGSTOTHENORDSEKUYSAKUFSYGFDSAKUYGFKUSDAFYGFKUGKFUYGFDSKUYGF!!!!!!" Personally I find the selfishness, rudeness and condescension of characters like Maven and the Thalmor to be entertaining and even refreshing in a game where basically every Nord who doesn't support the Empire sounds like Heimskr (whose name, BTW, is Norse for "foolish" or "idiot". No really). And anyway, the Black-Briars' pro-Stormcloak alter-egos, the Silver-Bloods, they're guilty of far worse than Maven and co, yet as far as hate goes, they get off scot-free because they support Ulfric. The Silver-Bloods are at least as rude, selfish and mafia-like as the Black-Briars, and not only that, they're racists who are in cahoots with Daedra worshipping murderers. Maven, at the very least, is meritocratic in that she has a healthy respect for people who can get the job done right, and equally dislikes people too spineless or stupid to achieve. So it's not like she just surrounds herself with sycophantic yes-men. Unlike the Stormcloaks or the Silver-Bloods, Maven doesn't care if you're not a Nord, and for that, she has my respect. That and her kinda amusing conversations with people around Riften XD (you should listen to her sometime). AxetheBarbarian
For me it's not necessarily the condescending tone she always uses, I can put up with the guards b.s., it's the fact the no matter what you've accomplished she never seems to recognize you, even as a threat. Single handedly winning a civil war, killing Alduin, being the LISTENER OF THE DARK BROTHERHOOD!! Nope, never seen you before, but Honningbrew is somehow a serious threat. Seriously, for a woman with so many connections with the the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood, you'd think she'd recognize their leadership. At the very least she'd stop trying to threaten the BLOODY LISTENER with sending the the Brotherhood after them if she gets mad. Just seems wrong that you can slaughter kings, dragons, even deities, but not Maven Black-briar, who in the grand scheme of things really is only a little more significant than Nazeem. Lioness446
Aye. I honestly believe you have to be a Montgomery Burns in order to actually like Maven Black-Briar. (Let's face it, those two deserve each other.) She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever; she treats everyone, even the dragonborn who saved the world three times, like garbage, she kills any business owner who doesn't serve her product, and I can honestly say the only time I didn't completely loathe her is when she told off Halega. (Something about Maven calling another woman the W- word is just hilarious.) The only reason I am always hesitant to join the Thieves Guild is knowing I am just going to become Maven's new puppet. (I actually like the Thieves Guild storyline, although it does have a few flaws) That is the beautiful thing about playing on PC though; console commands and mods make Maven an easy target.
