Max. No. of Mods?

Ich have about 150 mods activated and whenever I activate more I get the following symptoms:

- cannot speak to MPCs and Companions any more. Using ESC in this situation will always crash the game

- in pipboy some parts get pink

- sometimes questionmarks and red cubes can occur in the world

Now I checked for 3 days and I don't think the problem is a special mod or combination of mods.

Anyway I don't think is a special no. of mod, more to much RAM or whatever else used.

The specs of my PC are not so bad: XP, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800, quadcore ...

Since the first two hexdecimal digits of any object reference are the position in the .esm/.esp loading order, you are limited to (16 * 16) - 1 = 255 mods (excluding the Fallout master). This limit does not include any mesh/texture replacers you may be using, which do not include a .esm/.esp.

I too had those problems, and the problem most probably is in your combination of mods. I have a huge list of mods myself, but managed to find the one that was doing this to the game (Can't remember which one though).

The solution I recommend is a bit drastic, which would be deleting all your mods, and re-installing them again. Or you could always uncheck a few mods to see which one could be the problem

Thanks for the info.

I solved my actual problem, but am pretty sure its not a special mod or a combination of mods. It simply too much mods which the game cannot handle any more.

Maybe someone can investigate further, and chnage one of the settings in INI, but have no idea which!

Actually, because the game uses the "ff" prefix for FormIDs stored in the savegame, the limit is 254 Mods, excluding Fallout3.esm.
