should I just give up? :(

hi!

[Request Resuming: Is there some big bundled mixed stable mod package that we could make a single download that we could trust will work?]

FONV used to play without crashes when I had an old slower machine mono core.

But since I got a quad core, the crash frequency increased.

Now, I try to put mods on it, and fixes with FNVEdit merged patch, but for no reason, at any moment, a crash happens, without any log that I could use to track and even fix mods myself...

The point is, I am spending more time (REALLY) in making the game stable, than actually playing, that is COMPLETELY non-sense; I am ready to give up...

I cant find way to track bugs/crashes, this is all so hidden, that is absurd... there is no LOG? how can that be?!?!?!?

I was thinking on download all mods that make this game fun (vanilla is not fun at all..), but only on thinking the time it will take to download it all, and to install it all, and to patch it all, and crashes, and try again and again and again...

Is there some big bundled mixed stable mod package that we could make a single download that we could trust will work? After I would just add a few missing mods and pray to it not crash... :(

So much time lost... thats absurd...

Thx on advices, I wanna play but I cant stand crashes anymore... one crash a day is ok, one crash every hour, every 15min, every 5min, is freaking NOT OK :P

I was having some issues with Fallout 3 as well, so I'd done some searching and this is one of the methods I came across of fixing crashes related to multiple cores.

Basically it tells you of a few lines that you can insert in the fallout.ini found in, "my documents/my games/fallout3" which will tell the computer to use two cores instead of four.

I hope this helps!

*edit* having trouble posting urls... sorry I'll have the info up shortly!

I tried that too, it was working ok with iNumHWThreads set to 1

then it begin crashing for no reason and I have no idea how to track down without the painful method of removing a single mod and restarting the game...

I tried to set it to 4, and game wont startup, so I tried 2 and still crashed, so I put back to 1 :( (that continue crashing..)

some random areas/places seem to cause crash that you cannot avoid in any way, and there is no message saying what happened...

I heard about debugdiag from microsoft, I wonder if that can help?

Well, honestly at this point I'd have to ask if you know what mod it started crashing on after you added it? Depending on how many mods you had it could be as simple as installing FOMM and un-checking the boxes one by one and restarting the game.

As for as debudiag, do you mean DXDIAG? That will give you some information if you are having some sort of driver issue sure! But I'm not sure what else it would point to. That being said, I do believe there are also a few tools out there which may point out any incompatability issues as well, or so I seem to recall seeing reference to these as I was poking about.

Either way, I'll keep reading up on stuff and if I come across it I'll let you know!

no idea... I installed some mods and the game was running smooth for a few hours, suddenly near the BOS bunkers area, it begun crashing, I enter there and more crashes, now I load the game and after 5s it crashes, thats to much to I stand without logs, how can we track anything without logs?

no no, some ppl said it could help with a stack trace so we could guess culprit mods:

debugdiag

oh, indeed, if there is tools to check all mods for failures/incompatibilities etc, that would help; I think FNVEdit has something, I am on it right now..

thx!

Not a problem, I do hope it helps! I'm kind of new to the modding of FO3 so my suggestions may not be spot on, but I'm happy to try. :)

Another thing that occured to me is, if you have a number of mods loaded and it's crashing could it perhaps be due to using too much ram? I know at least with minecraft which was originally set to run at 32 bits, if you don't modify it as you use more mods it will also do that. That being said, I'd recommend pulling up the task manager and keeping an eye on the ram usage. If it's using too much and that's the culprit there is also THIS tool to help you out. http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/6510/? . The tool itself is called Large Address Aware Enable for FO3 and it allows the game to use up to 4 gigs of ram on x64 systems as opposed to the normal 2.

I hope this might also help! I actually just used it now since I'm downloading an insanely big texture mod and it indicated there that running out of memory would cause issues so, yep... figured it might help!

I use that too,

I just created a merged patch that used to work,

but it promptly crashes, even after I create a new game..

my guess is I should make a fresh install and start from that, and put the minimum mods possible.. that may work.. :(

NVEC seems a good starting point as it already adds loads of tested content!

omg...

I thought I was using the threaded setups, but I found out that for some reason all threading setups were disabled!! I think it has something to do with NVConfigator.. not sure...

Anyway, after I setup ALL these the crashes "seems" to have stopped initially!!

bUseThreadedBlood=1

bUseThreadedMorpher=1

bUseThreadedTempEffects=1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseThreadedAI=1
bMultiThreadAudio=1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1
if I miss any (leave a few set to 0) it will still crash tho!!! whatchout anyone that reads this...

I have also these setup, they should be based on the number of cores:

iNumHWThreads=1 (I used only 1 here for now..)

iNumHavokThreads=4
thx again! :smile:

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44204//? New Vegas Enhanced Content : It's what exactly you are looking for. A bunch of mods(they are a lot believe me) that enhance vanilla game, fix bugs, reduce errors, etc gathered all together in one .esp file.(There is also a compatibility patch for MMUE)

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45104/? Mission Mojave - Ultimate Edition : It fixes in-game bugs, glitches, etc. As described in the mod's main page it fixes more than 27,000 records.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/46302/? Fallout New Vegas Optimized : Optimized tweaked ini files for multi-core based pc's. Exactly what you are looking for.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35262/? 4GB Fallout New Vegas : FNV4GB is a tool to load Fallout New Vegas with the Large Address Aware executable flag set so the entire 4GB Virtual Memory Address Space can be used by the game. This is useful when using lots of mods.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34832/? New Vegas Stutter Remover : It helps reduce the stuttering issue even in unmodded vanilla game.

I think these are your first and basic steps for an as stable as possible modded Fallout New Vegas. You could furthermore use FNVEdit and clean up mods, erase conflicts, etc but it requires a level of knowledge I don't currently possess :)
