Exterior worldspace creation

I fear this may be a simple question so sorry if I seem dense. In my defence I have a stinking cold and am not on top form.

I want to create an external cell to use as a new section of DC. I'm pretty confident with interior cells but external seems to be a different kettle of monkeys. I was wondering if the best way to create an external cell would be to duplicate an existing one or start from scratch. With a new worldspace, how do I create some ground to work on?

Also, while I'm here, in the CS, when I load an existing worldspace the following error pops up:

WATER: Loading water type 'DefaultWater' with mismatched noise textures from Worldspace.

Poblem is, this is the first. I then get a load along the lines of:

MODELS: Could not get file for texture textures\characters\...

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

While I'm not sure of the details, I found just duplicating an existing one and deleting all the objects to work fine. However, I would recommend creating a new one from scratch, and then setting a similar one as the parent worldspace, just to avoid accidentally modifying an existing one. You can then use the landscape editor tool (hotkey is H if I remember correctly) to shape and texture the terrain. As for the errors, I'm afraid I can't help you there, but I got them also when working with worldspaces, but they didn't seem to have any visible effects.

Much of the stuff contained here can be applied to the GECK.

Good luck.

Well i have created an exterior cell for the MOD i am working with and everything seems to be working fine with the duplicate and change method other then the fact as i cant figure out the coordinate crap and it is over writing a spot on my main map which i DONT want it anywhere near my map. I have a door leading into my oasis like cell and dont want it to anywhere near it (people arent going to be getting to it from the map anyway. It does nt actually replace the oasis but when you look at the map that is where you are at.

So to answer your questions duplicate and replace is fine if you can find a cell close to what you want, other wise create a new cell and maybe use a similar cell as a base to build yours, as for the ground thing.....well lets just say again that i duplicated a cell and leave it at that :D

  • 3 months later...

Ignore the below question as I just figured it out. If anyone else is having the same problems the way to do it is to open up the World Spaces option under world and right click on the worldspace and choose duplicate. I am not sure what everyone is talking about when they say it takes hours, on a 2.8 GHz Core2Duo it only took about 10 seconds for me to duplicate the entire operation anchorage world (that is every cell and everything involved in all of those cells) (obviously its way smaller than the wasteland though).

I have a question about duplicating a cell like you were talking about. I am trying to duplicate the operation anchorage world and make the ruins version. But I can only duplicate one cell at a time. Where is this cell located when I duplicate it? In other words, what are the four sides attached to? Is the cell pretty much just layered over the old one or is it unattached to the game altogether? How would I attach other cells to it when I duplicate them? I would rather duplicate the entire operation anchorage worldspace and not one single cell at a time but I am finding that this is impossible because the duplicate option only exists within the cells of a worldspace. Any help would be appreciated.

Arg this thread blinds my eyes

How everybody can suggest duplicate a worldspace and delete the objects....

Thats just cruel.

Tab World->Worldspaces->right click in List->new

Can't be that difficult.

---

Also about Anchorage.

Duplicate the Worldspace, not the Cells.

Tab World->Worldspaces->right click in List->duplicate

But here I give you a warning:

Dont you even try it, if you dont know for sure what you doing.

Making a Rework of Anchorage as a new Worldspace via duplicate

would be even for me a high challenge.

Yes, it will be very difficult but very fun. I almost like designing the maps as much as I like playing them. The hardest part for now is deleting everything I don't want in there and picking and choosing what to keep. I am expanding those barriers out somewhat also but if you've seen the anchorage area in the geck they finished very little past the boundaries except for this nice little beach area with some somewhat hidden smoke grenades out there (they blow up like regular frags unfortunately). This will probably be the part that tests my skill the most, fixing floating land masses and unfinished terrain. I hope to make a great and much needed mod.

Hi

To be honest, I already wanted to do the same, but I canceled,

coz I noticed, that it would end up in too much work.

So, if you serious with your attempt, you should contact me via PM

and I may give you some useful hints what you have think of etc.

It is possible, but you will need some time and care for it.

If somebody doing it, I would be glad about it.
