sumoftwosins
So I am a product engineer for a firearms company and I've made guns in real life so I thought it was a shame not to have made a weapon for a game. I can make models out the wahzo through my engineering software, but when it comes to stuff like 3d max and what not... I'm lost. I avoided this because I didn't want to have to learn yet another interface for modeling. Anyhow, I broke down and started playing with some various things. I had the Maya LE and a friend had 3d studio. I had to start from a point I knew that I could and that was with a 2d design in EPS or whatever. Then I imported that and extruded the shapes into the 3d world. So I have my first rifle designed for the game world. Now actually getting it into the game... I have no idea where to start. I'm going to hit the tutorials now that I have a model in 3dmax format or whatever. I based some of the design off of stuff I had for other weapons. The stock is based off the Magpul PRS. I took a handgun slide and stretched it to make the forearm of the rifle. The grip and receivers were loosely based of an AR10 style. http://astraybullet.com/_web/ionrifle.jpg I wanted to go with an energy weapon so I could forgo some of the issues of shell casings and things like that. I left the trigger out with the understanding I could use the one in a NIF model. So that's my start. I welcome anyone to jump in a take over, but either way I'll figure something out. Weasel_Scourge
that looks tight man keep it up, were you planning on using one of the energy weapon reload anims?
sumoftwosins
Thanks. I'm not sure which one. I've got to look at them again to see which one I could use that would look right with the model. I need to make a scope or some type of optics for it as well. reinhart
Heya, Been meaning to get back to you PM, but have been busy for the past week and it slipped my mind. Sorry 'bout that. So you did end up making the gun huh, looks nice! I'm sorry I couldn't have helped you with the gun though, since I have a bunch of stuff piled up and haven't been done yet (my own guns' uvs, games, exames). Just thought you should know. Anyhow, I've written a guide on how to get one's custom created gun into the game from the 3d modeling software. Here's the link to it. Hope it'll help! dthumb
Very well designed. The barrel reminds me of the desert eagle. I hope you keep the buttstock thick so it won't be noticable when it clips on armor, esp for female characters. Keep it up! ;P

sumoftwosins
I'm going to run through that guide. I finally figured out the UV Unwrap and was able to start working on the skin.
sumoftwosins
Here is an update of the model. This is a quick render with the optics. My fast version of the acog. I changed the length of the stock and a few other things to help match the scale of the in-game sniper rifle. So with all that done, time to skin it and move it over. Plus I need to figure out the animation crap. *EDIT - The projectile I plan on using is a modified version of Liberty Primes laser. This weapon and concept was inspired by a weapon from concussion rifle from Dark Forces. http://astraybullet.com/_web/ionrifle2.jpg
