Malchik
Quick and legit ways to make money include getting a free daedric weapon from Dram Bero and selling it to the Mudcrab. See other threads on getting the weapon at level one. You take a big drop on its value but 10k will buy you quite a bit of training early in the game. Contents of smugglers' caves is levelled and you need to be about level nine to get the good stuff IIRC. The 10k should help get you to that level quickly. Also, if you don't yet have it, get the Tribunal expansion or GOTY edition. Lots of nice valuable armour will quickly be coming your way.
t-leaves
Malchik, I've been playing Morrowind one week. It's my FIRST RPG game ever, so I'm about as green as grass sprouts in Spring. Anyway, you mention Tribunal. If I add this expansion now, will I have to create a new character and start again? Also -- and this is funny to me -- the friend who introduced me to Morrowind asked me what Level I was at and what 'day' I'm in. When I told him he sort of laughed and then said, "well maybe there's something wrong" with my game. I don't think so. He bragged that in the Tribunal version he was at level 14 in 20 minutes. Hmmm. Taking a stab at the math involved in leveling up, I find this hard to believe. He said he had no mods. Is this possible? In any case, around day 5, I reached Level 2. What have you and others seen/done?

Where is this Dram Bero fellow? And-- did I read you right? Sell it to a -- mudcrab? Huh? -------------------------------------------------------t-Leaves, sounds like your friend is an ignorant as---le. Sorry. What a nice "friend" who tries to make you feel stupid. t-leaves
Jenlyn, the friend needed to brag for reasons that say more about him than me. I feel more disappointed in him than stupid about climbing a steep learning curve. Out of curiousity, how quickly have you (and others out there?) leveled up when you first started the game? And, do you think his claim could be true? Mind you, I don't expect stellar performance from my character -- yet. I'm SO new to RPG that the acronym "RPG" is new to me. Imagine that? I'm immensely impressed with the world that bethesda created, intrigued by the flexibility and their imaginativeness. And, hell, I'm having so much :bleh: fun! Coolhandgoose
That's great you're liking the RPG's. Morrowind is the best one I've ever played. It's good to hear you're having fun, no point playing a game if it isn't, eh? The forums do have some good tips on leveling up quickly, just try doing a search. It took me a while to figure out that you only get credit for your major and minor skills towards your next level. If you concentrate on those, you should level up quickly (ie. don't use short sowrds if it's not one of your skills) At least for the first little bit, since you may have to increase your misc. skills to gain ranks in other guilds. I think that reaching level 14 in 20 minutes is impossible, unless the person cheated. When I started the game, I did level up quickly, about level 9 after 2 days of playing (not game time). But that was a lot of playing.
t-leaves
Thanks, COOL, for your reply and suggestions. When you were up to Level 9, do you recall what game day you were at? As I said, I was at around day 5 when I leveled up to level 2. In real time, who knows. I guess the reason I keep asking about this is because I think I did all of the things I could do at that point, other than paying for skill increases. That method seemed way too expensive. What's your opinion? Hearing how others did gives me an idea of the potential and always some idea of whether I'm learning as much as I can. Coolhandgoose
I don't remember what day in the game I was at, mainly because it doesn't matter to me. There are some threads in the spoilers section on how to get daedric stuff quickly and therefore make money. I'm sure that there are people who have this memorised and when they start a character they have a set sequence of places to go. This probably gives them a lot of money right off the start. To me it kind of takes the fun out of exploring the game and discovering things for yourself, especially if you're new to the game. My suggestion is don't read them. Keep exploring, the money comes really quickly and easily, you'd be surprised.
Malchik
Malchik, I've been playing Morrowind one week. It's my FIRST RPG game ever, so I'm about as green as grass sprouts in Spring. Taking a stab at the math involved in leveling up, I find this hard to believe. He said he had no mods. Is this possible? In any case, around day 5, I reached Level 2. What have you and others seen/done? The way to go about getting the daedric weapon right at the start is in one of the pinned threads in spoilers. If you can't find it PM me and I'll send you the link. Dram Bero is accessible in the plaza of one of the cantons of Vivec, just ask around. You will need a scroll or two of Ondusi's unhinging. If I gave you more info this would have to go in spoilers. Adding Tribunal and Bloodmoon does not affect your existing games, they add on to them. If you are getting both, instal Tribune before Bloodmoon to avoid running problems. I find it hard to believe your friend levelled up so fast without cheating because you begin the game without the money to train but with mods or console commands anything is possible. Alternatively once you have the money you could certainly level up 14 levels in 20 minutes. I take it slowly but if you are in a rush you need to balance the training to maximise the x5 multiplier effect and remember never to let a skill hit 95. (Take 'em to 94 if you still want the multiplier at that level). JF, there is a talking mudcrab merchant. Search the forum under 'mudcrab' for more details. He has 10000 but will only buy weapons, armour and 'drinks'. Don't kill all mudcrabs until you have found him!
seronis
WARNING: MAY HAVE SOME LOW LEVEL SPOILER INFORMATION I've been playing Daggerfalls for years and still love the game (except WinXP isn't too friendly with it for some reason). First i ever played morrowind was GOTY edition on xBox. I had over 300k spare gold my second day (real day not game day). Just finishing all the available guild quests in mages/fighters/thiefs and going with the blades up to arktenhand(*sp) will get you to level seven or eight, and at that point you'll hit the assassination attempt scenerio. Go to mournhold. Hire the mercenary and go to the DB hideout. Just run around slaughtering baddies and collecting their uniforms. To maximize your time only keep the items that have the highest gold per weight ratio. When you and the merc are both maxed out in weight (do NOT beat the final boss), head back in town to sell all your stuff. Use the initial cash to just purchase the merc the best armor possible and give him a dozen heal potions. You should have your own potions or spells to ensure you are down there long enough to get the highest load. End result? You will profit roughly 60k to 80k gold per trip to the hideout by killing baddies and selling their gear. As a side note: i recommend 'recall' to save YOU travel time. As you and the merc carry more weight the profit margin will get even higher per trip. You'll come out of doing a few of these trips around level 12 -14, with over a half million gold (enough to purchase you up to levels high enough to stroll thru the game). And of course there is always the really cheap way (and slow) to earn money. Any item that is only worth 1 gold, barter them to a trader 1 at a time (dont cash out) and then take them all back away from them in a single bundle. Because of the rounder issues a single item is always worth 1 gold so the price he is willing to pay you will equal the exact number of items you handed to him but when you take them back it will figure the price as a bundle and a 100 items will have a rough value of 57 gold. Thus each time you do this you'll earn a free 47 gold. When you do this enough times you'll end up at a point where you can sell the trader one item and he will pay you his entire gold stockpile.
