Daimonicon
Hello, I was planning to add some engravings to my way shrine models. I used the texture baking from 3dsmax. The result was not perfect but for now it was ok for me unfortunately Skyrim LE doesn't show the whole thing or you could think very minimal and shadowy. Nifskope shows the texture only from the direction where I assume the light source comes from on the opposite side not. In the Creation Kit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_tu6v72ZWEQkImPW1VLVTOJg25SP3XIw/view?usp=sharing In the Skyrim LE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IAMPCTVSxXt5LUjY4EFoenmwD1QvAdli/view?usp=sharing Is it maybe like with the textures with glow effect that you have to make additional settings in Nifskope ? If one has a tip that would be great.
Hanaisse
Sure it does, so there must be something else going on. Without seeing the actual nif it looks like possibly the normals got flipped so the design is actually on the inside and very faint, but that's just a guess. Daimonicon
That it should work in principle is already good. I have uploaded the nif file and the textures - Maybe the error can be found there. I had created next to the normal map a Hightmap but that seems to make no difference except in 3dsmax. Hanaisse
Well, I was close. It's not flipped normals but the fact the entire mesh has no normals at all, or tangents. That's not something that can be fixed in NifSkope so you'll need to re-export it from 3DS and pay attention to your export options. I'm fairly sure there's check boxes there you might have missed (I've never used 3DS). You'll know it's correct by looking at the result in NifSkope and the NiTriShapeData options for each NiTriShape. It should say next to BS Vector Flags both Has_UV and Has_Tangents, and the Has Normals option should say Yes. Regarding the textures; Skyrim does not use a height map so you won't need that. The Diff and Normal Map textures are fine as DXT1 but they are lacking MipMaps, which will cause other problems such as disappearing at a distance. Re-export them from whatever program you used to generate mipmaps.
Daimonicon
Yes, there was indeed a single checkmark that I forgot to export. The engravings are now clearly visible. This is how I had imagined it. I have also created the MipMaps. Need only the Diffuse Texture MipMaps or all so also normal and whatever else you have ? In Nifskope all options are now correct. However, the textures now have an excessive shine and they seem very bright.
