Controller bind issues with 360 & PS4 controller - Start and Select missing

Long story short, I'm starting a vanilla playthrough to troubleshoot a bunch of mods I have running in MO2
In game I currently can't hit start or select with a xbox 360 or a ps4 controller and there are no options to change the keybinds in options

I have no way to access the in game menu, switch to 3rd person , or save and exit the game.

I do have F4SE running but I don't know what setting could be causing this issue with my controller

The two small buttons in the center of the controller do that - you can't map those.

Left button (like two sheets of papers) - switches 1st/3rd person view.

Right button ((3 parallel lines) - accesses the menu.

Left stick navigates that menu, or the d-pad.

Are you using any utility that allows switching between Keyboard/Mouse and Controller?

  • 1 year later...

also having controller issues ....

i play fallout 4 with a steam controller and for the most part its been fine. however i have lost the use of some of my buttons in game. i have checked in big picture mode and the controller buttons still work so i don't think this is a controller hardware issue.

i first lost the use of button underneath one of the paddle buttons but as i hardly used this button i just ignored the issue and played on.
then i lost the use of the top bumper buttons witch i had rebind to B and U. if i press B or U on the key board while playing they work as i had configured them to work but the controller does nothing.

now at over a 1000 hrs in i have lost the use of the start hold button which takes you in and out of workshop mode... the button still works for changing from third to first person but i can only enter workshop mode by going to the workshop table.

i am pulling my hair out at this stage as starting a new game is really not an option any ideas on how to resolve this major game issue would be fantastic

Only thing I can say is DO NOT add a custom controller mod. It will virtually NEVER be exactly what you want it to be - in other words you would have to retrain yourself to work with that guys control setup - in other words you'd have to learn to use the controller the way he does, instead of making the controller work the way you want it.
