Tonight I decided to update my mods. Big mistake! I hadn’t updated for a few weeks, and the list of changes seemed very long. After updating only about half, I tried booting the game, which worked, and loading a save, which resulted in a CTD. All my saves are now incompatible.

The mods that got updated were:

Conditional Expressions

Dynamic Things Alternative

Edit Epic UI Audio for one 2.1

Equippable Underwear for NPCs

FK’s Diverse Racial Skeletons

Glenmoril SE 090-2 Patches

Immersive Interactions

Legacy of the Dragonborn Patches (Offical)

I had not had any trouble with them before. Vortex shows no conflicts. Resaver says nothing is wrong with my saves. Steam reports no errors in my local data.

[Later] I don't have copies of the old versions. I see archive copies online, but how do you download them?

[Later] Disabled Conditional Expressions because of a bug report that it caused a CTD. That didn't help. So now what? I can't just remove all these mods. That would really screw things up, wouldn't it?

You are probably going to have to start a new game. Scripts get baked into saves, even if you uninstalled and then reinstalled the mod with the updated version it would probably still break your game. This is why you are advised not to install or uninstall mods mid game, which in effect is what you have done.

I would just chalk it up to experience. Update every mod that has updates, run all the mod tools you use, Wye Bash etc. and start a new game. You may have to create a vanilla game, depends on the mods which were updated.

Unless the mod author specifically tells you it is okay to install the mod mid-game on their description page just do not do it. It is one of those, better safe than sorry. things.

I booted the game in Steam, loaded the latest save, then saved and quit. I then booted the game with Vortex, and was able to load the save. The only problem I've noticed so far: the names of my metal bars and ores are in Spanish. Not sure what I to do about that.

Looking at those Spanish-language metal ingots, I get this message: "Base last changed in Epic UI Sounds". WTF? How did that happen? And how do I get rid of it?

As it turns out, the Spanish was due to an error in a mod, and was beyond my ability to correct. Starting a new game would not have helped. The author has since fixed it.

Hello community! I want to tell you that something unusual happens to me with Skyrim SE saves; I will try to be clear.

The last saved game is game three (3). If I load this game directly, then the game, when saving it, causes an error that takes me to the desktop.

Now: if before loading the game three (3) I load the previous two (2), and once the game two (2) is loaded, without leaving the open game, I load the three (3), there is no error and I can save my games normally.

In my way of analyzing what happens, I sense that something ... a complement and another routine of the game is loaded in game two (2) and that this load remains residual on my PC so that later when loading the three (3) the error does not occur.

Asked them:

Has something similar happened to someone?

Does anyone have a suspicion of what may be happening?

Thanks!

It is often true that if a save doesn't load, you can go back and load an old one. Sometimes you can load the new one from there, sometimes not. If you have added new mods in the meantime, you may have introduced incompatibilities what will prevent you from loading, unless the incompatible mod is removed.

If you are having problems with your saves, I suggest using ReSaver. That can fix some common problems, but certainly not all of them.
