itsmerandy
I think I figured this out! I downloaded DarnifieduiF3 from ModsReloaded.com seeing how you cant download it from Bethsoft.com anymore and the fonts folder that comes with it has DarN_ in front of all the fonts files in the fonts folder. and then it replaces original fonts folder in Data\textures\fonts. Now if you look at the Fallout.ini font script that you paste over the original Fallout fonts file script, some of the activated fonts to use DON'T have the DarN_ in front of them and are actually using Fallout default Fonts. So it crashes the game because there are no Fallout oiriginal fonts left in the Data\textures\fonts folder. What I think actually should have happened with Vortex when installing Darnified UI is that it should have overwrote the fonts folder with the new Darnified fonts without removing the original Fallout Fonts. Correct???

itsmerandy
Did you check the Fallout.ini in the My Documents folder to ensure the new fonts were installed properly? - Yes Did you remove the default fonts that were the same as the installed DarNUI fonts? - Yes Did you shut down and restart your computer after you installed DarNUI? - Yes DarNified UI for FO3 was published years before there was a Nexus Mod Manager, Mod Organizer or Vortex. These mod managers may not install DarNUI correctly. - Also installed manually with no better luck. From your question it is obvious that you have never opened the game .ini file. - I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to here as Game.ini file? Are you referring to my game saves folder fallout.ini where I copied the Darnified font scripts and replaced the original Fallout.ini fonts script?? DarNUI fonts should not be installed in a seperate folder, they replace the vanilla game fonts. When installing manually or through Vortex the Darnified Fonts folder was correctly installed in the Fallout 3 goty - Data\textures folder and is still there now with the same fonts that are referred to in the Fallout.ini Darnified fonts script. There is no original Font script of Fallout currently in the fallout.ini. just the Darnified font script. And the fallout3\data\textures\fonts folder is all Darnified fonts. I really appreciate any help you can give me on this as I have spent hours installing and uninstalling trying to get Darnified to work and I have been installing mods for years so its not like this is my first Rodeo. I Have installed Darnified many times successfully in the past and never ran into these problems before. Its just crazy!! Thank You!! There is not supposed to be a "Fonts" folder in the "Data" folder, The fonts are handled by the fallout.ini file in My Documents/My Games/fallout/fallout.ini If Vortex made a "Fonts" folder in "Data", it is incorrect and should be deleted. Yeah Sorry, I forgot it was in Data\Textures\fonts instead of just the data folder.
itsmerandy
Solved!!! Turns out the .ini I copied and pasted from ModsReloaded.com was missing all the back slashes that divide the folders and I just never noticed. Aargh!! This is what I was using - [Fonts];sFontFile_1=TexturesFontsGlow_Monofonto_Large.fntsFontFile_1=TexturesFontsDarN_FranKleinBold_14.fnt;sFontFile_2=TexturesFontsMonofonto_Large.fntsFontFile_2=TexturesFontsDarN_FranKleinBold_16.fntsFontFile_3=TexturesFontsGlow_Monofonto_Medium.fnt;sFontFile_4=TexturesFontsMonofonto_VeryLarge02_Dialogs2.fnt;sFontFile_4=TexturesFontsDarN_FranKleinBold_Otl_12.fntsFontFile_4=TexturesFontsDarN_Sui_Generis_Otl_10.fntsFontFile_5=TexturesFontsFixedsys_Comp_uniform_width.fnt;sFontFile_6=TexturesFontsGlow_Monofonto_VL_dialogs.fnt;sFontFile_6=TexturesFontsDarN_PetitaMedium_Outline_18.fnt;sFontFile_6=TexturesFontsDarN_Forgotten_Futurist_Otl_18.fntsFontFile_6=TexturesFontsDarN_Sui_Generis_Otl_13.fnt;sFontFile_7=TexturesFontsBaked-in_Monofonto_Large.fntsFontFile_7=TexturesFontsDarN_Libel_Suit_Otl_24.fnt;sFontFile_7=TexturesFontsDarN_Klill_Outline_20.fntsFontFile_8=TexturesFontsGlow_Futura_Caps_Large.fnt Need to warn other's to only copy and paste .ini from Bethsoft.com! Deleted65310016User
If anyone else has this problem, save yourselves the trouble and download this. It's on the New Vegas Nexus but it works for Fallout 3 too. It edits the the fonts for you so you don't have to worry about em' in the .ini files. It also fixes the crashes when trying to load FO3 if you edited the .ini with the fonts if you had that issue.
