Longer Swords.

Suggestion...when people make two-handed swords, can they please be longer? no 'masamune' long but longer. the hilt should be at neckline and the blade/scabbard should go till about the bottom of the butt approx. Because, for example the swords mod by Vagabond was good , the swords were beautiful, but tiny. And were the same size as the one-handers...:S but otherwise good...and therefore got an 8/9 instead of a 10...

*This suggestion was not meant to offend Vagabond or his mods. This was a generalization of two-handed weapons.

Cheers guys

uh... the two-handed weapons foun din most mods are just right

yes they could be longer, but it wouldnt be realistic

plus the character doesnt hold th ehilt at the neckline

if you're suggesting making the handle longer, that would cause youre character to improporly hold his sword, and in real life you would die if not holding at the hilt.

i dont mean to rag on ya, but please be satisfied with the length (its very realistic)

NOW

if youre blade skill was like 100 there coul dbe a longer sword, but th elonger the sword, the harder it is to get used to

trust me, im a collector

To clarify. Unfortunately, the game has a very specific point where it holds/equips items. Meaning that the position of the handle must always remain where it is in order for the weapon to look right when being wielded. The blade could be made longer, but would end up projecting further out to the left of the owner. If the sword is too long, it can look rather odd when worn since the tip of the sword is hitting rocks or dragging on the ground. Reading your topic, I couldn't help but be reminded by the sword(s) in the berserk Anime, which were described as insanely big, and not something a normal person could use.

Oddly enough, the sword pictured on that manga cover has about the same proportions that you describe. Even the iconic 2hand sword, the claymore, usually has only a 3 and a half foot long blade as anything larger would likely be too unwieldy for prolonged use.

most two handed swords are around two to two and a half, and in rare cases 3 cubits in length (a cubit is th elength from the elbow to the tip fo the fingers) and... yeah

F.Y.I. you could use a sword that long, but only after months of training just to adjust tot he weight. Youd be better off with a hailiburd than a sword that long

Wasn't Masamune just a Japanese swordsmith? I'll have to do some reading later to make sure.

Anyway, I was thinking of making a "Zweihander" as my first weapon mod for Oblivion. Also known as a "Bihander" or "Bidenhander" they were massive swords used during the Renaissance period by the Swiss and Germans. I remember seeing an example at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and it was taller than me. I'm about 5'6" so the sword was easily six feet in length. These swords were generally wielded by soldiers in the front lines, and they were used primarily to cut through pikes, and of course, the pikemen. Interestingly enough, these swords only weighed about six to ten pounds. There are legends of a Frisian warrior named Pier Gerlof Donia who wielded a MASSIVE Zweihander. The sword is on display at the Fries Museum, and is supposedly around seven feet in length. It weighs in at around 14 pounds (which is very heavy for a sword).

Here is a picture of a woman holding a replica Zweihander. Its the only good picture I could find that showed the scale of the sword.

That's about as big as swords get in the real world.

I'm familiar with Berserk. Its a good manga. The sword you see on the cover there is from when he was younger. It pales in comparison to the "Dragonslayer" he wields later on in the series.

A sword that big would weigh in at around 300 pounds, and would be completely impossible to wield (obviously). Even the smaller sword he uses earlier on in the series would weigh between 60-80 pounds, which is still impossible for a human to use effectively.
