CTD's and Freezes - Performance Graphs within

Hello all!

So, I've come to understand that Skyrim's memory usage limit is at around 3.1 GB of RAM. I wanted to test this, and so I decided to run the Skyrim Performance Monitoring software found here on the Nexus, to take a look and see how my game performed when bumping ugrids up to 7.

Both screenshots were taken at the moment of CTD or Freezing. As you can see, the game crashed or froze at the same time, with the RAM hitting about 2.4 GB. Now, unless I'm misreading / understanding something, I seem to be missing .6 GB to play around with before the crash.

If someone could please explain what I'm not understanding, or point out a solution if this is truly a problem, I would much appreciate it. Below, I've included my .ini edits and my mod list.

depends also on your system (which windows version and bit) on how memory is handled. Also if you use enboost or not (not that it helps but it will push those graphs down).

 

Some people crash at 2.6gb, other at 3.1gb others again at another value.

 

uGridsToLoad in itself influences more than just your RAM usage. You could just as well crash a mod. uGrids loads a large area on 7, and not only textures, but everything that's happening so also your mods, NPCs, etc. My system also turns unstable on uGrids 7, while my RAM usage is OK.

 

If you wanna test your RAM limit install these mods in highest version available;

 

Skyrim HD Full version (4k textures)

Skyrim Ultra HD

Skyrim Flora Overhaul + optional 8K pines

Run with an ENB to eat another 100-150MB VRAM

Run the game on Ultra, leave uGrids at 5.

 

See if you can walk from helgen to riverwood :wink: or even open your game... :P

Running on Windows 7 64-bit, would you believe that the crash is odd at that RAM mark, or still go with the idea that it could just as easily be the amount going on in the loaded areas?

Assuming it's the uGrids causing the crash and not the RAM....

 

Simply force more RAM usage by installing too many high res texture mods... it's an easy test and texture replacers do not influence your save game, so it's a save test as well.... if you really want to know ;)
