Basically, I want to make a spellsword. Not one who wields a sword and shoots fireballs and lightning bolts, but one who wields a sword he can TEMPORARILY enchant in the middle of battle for different effects. Kind of like a Bound Sword, just enchanting the weapon he has in his other hand.

 

Does anyone know how to make such a spell? Something a character can cast in the middle of battle, causing his/her sword to suddenly (and temporarily) burst into flames or crackle with lightning (or any of the other effects a weapon can be enchanted with)?

To have a sword that changes enchantment, I'd think the easiest way would be to have multiple versions of the same sword each with a different enchantment. You could then make either custom spells to summon the version you want.

 

Another idea maybe would be to make the sword counter the elemental magic used against its wielder so that a script fires when your using one of the sword versions making it give you an icy sword when hit with a fireball or a flaming sword when hit with a frost spell.

 

Either way it would take some work.

Or an easier and script free method is to use Apply combat Hit Spell perk. The downside is that no special effect is added to the weapon. The upside is that any weapon will do, even those already enchanted, from mod, dlc, etc. and it is easy to make.

Well, I think I've pretty much got it figured out. I'm having a little issue with getting the enchantments to appear, but that might be due to one of the mods I'm running. Maybe, maybe not. Either way, the basic effect is easy enough to do.

Well. That's one heck of a mod. A few problems though. A) I've been having issues with the script extender (i.e. not understanding what the hell to do to get it). B) I'm not sure I want to restart all of my characters...

 

Other than that, this would probably work. :P
