Stuck in slomo sidestep

Antioche

Recommended Posts

I left my character paused in IC, and made a store trip.

When I returned, and hit tab, my character began slooooowly sidestepping to the right....

I checked keyboard funtionality, etc, and finally reloaded a previous save... same thing !! automatically ever-so-slow ( 1/3 sneak-speed or so ) sidestepping...

I exited the game, and re-entered. everything seemed fine, then, suddenly, without warning there it happened again !!

rebooted pc, checked and rechecked USB connections...tried again....played abit and ...there it is again !!!

I have to exit Oblivion completely to make it stop, I can reload a character in-game and they go into the same weird extra-slow sidestep...

Other games ( first person ) don't seem flubbed up; no weird movement in them.

leaving a cursor in place on a blank text file doesn't leave a string of "Ddddddd's" or anything, so I doubt the keyboard is 'stuck' or what-not....

Anyone recall havin something like this happen?

I can play for a few minutes, then ( after standing still yakking at a vendor, I come out and BAM....sidestepping along....)

Something fried? .......or is my keyboard screwin up and I'm chasing red herrings thinking my game is borked?

I haven't seen this one for a while. It's usually caused by a line in your Oblivion.ini, the one in the Documents and settings, not in the main Oblivion folder. Open the oblivion.ini with a text editor - Notepad works fine and is built into Windows.

Look for the line 'bUse Joystick=1'

Change the 1 to a 0 (zero) and save it.

This disables any joystick signals caused by a floating voltage on an open pin when there is no joystick attached, and also disables any joystick that might be attached. Don't worry about any of the other joystick lines as with this one set to 0 that have no affect.

Shiny;

Ima thinkin that was it BBen, No joystick, but I do have a gamepad. between that, and a nice clean-up of the rear USB's I havn't had my character start his slomo sidestep since.

( Another case of a loose nut between the seat and the keyboard ! )

Thanks ( Again ) for the help you two!
