the console

i know the console is a hand little feature for a pc game, but what happened to the good old days (way back in nam) when a game would force you to complete it and level up by playing through it. i personaly have nothing against the console but (theres always a but) im sure you would find the game much more of a challenge (and more realistic) if you didnt use the console.

i mean, say if you went out on a mass murdering spree (on the game of course). you'd be doing it full well knowing that you were gonna be hunted down by the guards and slaughtered like the dog you are. but (there it is again) yoiu can simply type a line of code into the console and stop this ever happening, it kinda defeats the point dosnt it

like i said before the console is a handy little feature but it can be overused and misused, why give your character an easy life, make him, or her, fight for everything they need.

this may sound a little synical (cause i guess it is) but you all know what im talking about, it kinda spoils the game and reduces the replay value. just wonder around and see what fate deals you.

anyway, enough of my ranting and rambeling, what are your thoughts?

When I first played the game (some time before I had access to the internet) I did not even know of the console features. I was so used to playing without it that I used only 'fixme' and 'ra' after I had discovered it in any of the games I played. Now I'm messing about with other mods, trying to invent my own characters etc, I occasionally use it to skip boring bits.

It's really a question of willpower. The fact that it's there doesn't mean you have to use it and I think you'll find a lot of forum members will say the same. Some have gone from using console cheats at first to hating them but we arrive at the same conclusion. If you really want to have fun with a game you have to overcome the desire to cheat!

For my favorite character, my Argonian Healer-Monk, I can run from Seyda Neen to Ebonheart in under 2 minutes. Same with Balmora or Hla Oad. I don't think it's that bad if I just enter 'coc balmora' into the console if I know I can get there in 2 minutes. Plus, I'm paying for it. By typing in coc instead of running there, I gain none of the Athletics experience, and I don't get practice with my weapon on roadside creatures or bandits. I don't think that 'coc' is bad if your character is plenty capable and willing to sacrifice experience for time.

Since when did anyone ever take a killing spree seriously? Anyone I know who goes on a godlike rampage using the console to god-ify themselves is just trying to have fun. It's not like they're gonna be a god and then save. Everyone once in a while likes to just give themselves a daedric weapon and a massive acrobatics skill and leap around killing swathes of people. If you think being a god and trying to avoid guards is no fun, then don't do it. But some people when they feel like it just go all out.
