New Texture for the Hockey Mask, glitch

I'm trying to change the texture of the hockey mask. I grabbed the original texture from the bsa, edited it in photoshop, saved it as a .dds in \textures\armor\headgear\, which is the correct folder. Set it up as a texture set in GECK, re-using the normal map from the original texture. Copied the hockeymask as a new form, changed the texture to use my texture set, and it shows up perfect in the editor. But then I load up my game, and this happens:

Uhhhh.... what the heck is going on here? The edited portion of my texture isn't even showing up. It'll show up as black from some angles, textured as shown from others.

this happens in pieces of armor that reference the bip01 head (and possibly others)

you can fix it one of two ways: in the geck under character (i think) select "update facegen compatibility"

i have heard that the item needs to be in an npcs inventory for this to work correctly. however

it didnt always work for me.

so another but less satisfying fix is to rotate the mask in nifskope 90 degrees counter clockwise.

(once i tried making a fake .egm file for the head gear, then selected "update facegen compatibility", and then deleted the .egm before starting fallout and that worked, but its could have been just a fluke)

post back and let us now if there are still texture issues after the helmet has been placed correctly.

cheers

The "update facegen compatibility" button got it positioned correctly! Awesome!

But the mask is still showing up black. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the "archive invalidation" thing I keep hearing about. I downloaded the .exe version, but it says it cant find fallout.ini.

Update:

Awesome! I did the manual version of archive invalidation, and my texture shows up!
