Grey Face Issue With No Mods Installed

The infamous grace faced NPC problem that stems from conflicting mods and Skyrim not being able to generate head mesh textures is plaguing my gameplay. But I have ZERO mods.

I had a few before, but I uninstalled everything, uninstalled my game, deleted the Skyrim folder from my Steam apps folder, reinstalled, but alas. It persists.

I've searched the web, but haven't found anything on this specific issue. Any clue what could cause this on a clean install?

You are not supposed to get grey face bug on clean/fresh install unless you're are loading an old save from previous install that maybe what is causing it or not idk for sure. This bug is predominantly caused by the mods that edit the facegendata of npcs or by mismatched textures. I still get this bug on vampires except named ones and there hostility towards me prevents me to fix them lol and i know for sure what conflicting mods cause it. It is better vampire fangs & eyes and botox lol f it

When you uninstalled the game did you delete the ini files in documents>my games>Skyrim? If you are going for a fairly clean game you should actually delete that whole folder. Also it is a good idea to delete appcache in the Steam directory, that is where Steam keeps data on your ongoing game.

First off thanks for the response. I took out the app cache but still no luck. I am baffled by this. Even when using an older save, if the game was able to locate the facegendata, wouldn't that fix the problem? Maybe 10 years ago I dealt with this on my player character, and a fresh install fixed it.

Actually If I remember right... one year ago I reinstalled and there was a grey face on Ysolda in Whiterun. That was on an entirely new computer with entirely new saves.

I got it sorted, it only happens with the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Patch. Still don't get why it persisted after a clean install, but I went back to a way old save. Right when my character was brand new and spawned into the world, and the issue was gone. I didn't install any graphics mods and was booting the game with ever overhaul I dropped in to make sure it ran properly. When I put in USLEP, I got the bug. So, guess I'll just use TESV Edit and generate textures for everyone.
