Youtube video, XCOM: Enemy Within Revealed: First Gameplay and Details from XCOM's Rocket-Punching Expansion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCSoqdOZ0-M

"Key features for XCOM: Enemy Within will include:

-New Soldier Abilities: Research a new alien technology to advance the capabilities of operatives:
-Gene Mods: Construct the Genetics Lab to physically enhance operatives’ abilities, including augmentations to the chest, brain, eyes, skin and legs.
-MECs: Build the Cybernetics Lab to enable the construction of the new Mechanized Exoskeletal Cybersuit, or MEC. The new MEC Trooper class has specialized abilities and each suit can be upgraded with new weapons including the flamethrower, grenade launcher and more.
-New Weapons and Equipment: Give operatives an extra tactical edge with new projects from the engineering team in the Foundry;
-New Enemy Threats: Adopt new tactics to counter the threats from a host of new enemies, including the Mechtoid;
-New Strategic Resource: A valuable new alien resource, known as Meld, has been discovered. Secure it on the battlefield and use it carefully back at base to unlock new research and upgrades;
-New Tactical Challenges and Maps: Face new tactical challenges, on nearly 50% more maps;
-New Multiplayer Maps, Units and Abilities: Create custom squad from a wider array of options and dominate opponents in intense, one-on-one, turn-based matches."
And it looks like it will cost $30.

TLDR

The good news is that it is a big expansion.

The bad news is that it is a big expansion (which will probably have huge impact on almost every existing mod)

Some good news about modding: in one of the interviews the lead designer for EW mentions that they've moved more settings to the game's .INI files as they are easier to edit than the Unreal script.

I'm updating the Enemy Within page on the UFOPaedia with all known details about classes, abilities, gameplay/interface changes, etc.

Amongst other changes, the Flamer is back as part of the new Mech Trooper class.

Oh it's very exciting! Flamethrower, melee combat, new resource type ... okay rookie, get that meld container now, move, move, move! :smile:

I like devs finaly put in farm map, but wonder, if there are regional maps (snow aso.).

Mechtoid, well, that's gonna be deadly trio with cyberdisc and sectopod. But as Shen feared, mankind is going to cross the line constructing own floater like beings - mecs. In the video, I feel sorry for the robo girl, all beauty gone. On the other side, it will be fun to fight aliens in melee range apart from "who has better cover rules". Free aim flamethrower for the win.

Another con is there are nationality personalized voices yay! Oh, and button to mute Shen and Vahlen, thumbs up. I don't mind them (now playing game 146 :smile: ), but there are guys who mind.

The 2nd wave option Save Scum to turn off seed for the shots? Maybe people should stop save scumming and devs should stop putting in stuff like shot seeds.

Nerfing Squad Sight may be cool, but I like the current design. Sometimes ETs are shooting my soldiers through walls. In the world with such advanced :smile: technology, it's fine to call for sniper support, like calling over radio: "Hey mate, there's sectoid hiding over there. You see it? Cool. Then adjust your lens and shoot it.". What's the point for the sniper to come in or close to a range of common weapons?

Overall, new changes are going to make the game more complex and I'm not sure, if I like it or not.

Any news about changes to aerial combat?

$30 is reasonable price for me.

Great job on the UFOPaedia Hobbes77, thank you! I am little confused about release date, as in my country we read 11/12/13 as 12th 11th December.

The devs made clear that there are more surprises coming up and my guess is that some must involve the Geoscape since they paid attention to a lot of feedback from the players (unequip all soldiers button, etc).

On the US 11/12/13 is November 12, 2013. On the rest of the world it's December 11th. The game will only be released internationally on November 15th, though (12th is only for the US).
