Mod Manager

Okay bben46... I'm making progress. I've read your posts on zeta boards and I'm able to get the bben_test_dagger.esp in to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data file but when I start the game and I check my data files, it's not showing up. I reinstalled Oblivion into my HP games file and set it as administrator for double the assurance. I've placed all my Mod files in one folder and then into separate sub-folders. I have my 7zip and my OBMM in one folder as they are necessary files. But like I said before, the problem I'm having right now is that my MOD isn't showing up in the games data file.

I tried to make my tutorial as simple as I could for people who don't have any computer experience. I appreciate any info on what is not clear. Sometimes it is difficult for a guy who has been working with computers for over 35 years to understand what it is you don't know.

If you reinstalled your Oblivion, your data folder is now wherever the \oblivion folder is located.

Is anything showing in your data list?

Did you unzip the test_dagger into a folder, them copy the Test_dagger.esp file into the Oblivion\data folder? Or just try to unzip the test_dagger directly into the oblivion\data folder? either way should work. The main thing is getting the zipped file unzipped and getting the Bbens_test_dagger.esp placed into the \oblivion\data folder. Once it is there, it should show up in the game data when you start.

OBMM should be installed in the Oblivion folder to work. It is not a mod, but a mod manager that must be started before Oblivion to work right. After you have done whatever you want with the files in OBMM, you can close it and start Oblivion normally and the changes will be in effect. Or, you can use the built in Oblivion launcher from OBMM, it closes itself and starts Oblivion.

7-zip should install itself in your program files when you run the self installer. You should have gotten a desktop icon for 7-zip. And you must associate the file types .7z, .rar and .zip for it to be able to automatically work with those type files.

Like I said I followed all your steps... The problem I was having was that the .esp wasn't showing up in the launch managers data files. But It's okay I found an alternate route. I download the MODs I want then with the OBMM I create an OMOD file then activate it and voila! It shows up in the data file and is now usable. But Thanks for all your help bben46 without it, I couldn't have made it this far. I now see why you are a moderator. I think you can close this post now. Kudos Ben, Kudos!
