Height Maps?

I had similar problems getting heightmap data for my city mod project as well.

In the end I used the SRTM 90m data for the area along with MicroDEM to create a grayscale heightmap. I tweaked the map using the Gimp, then used TESAnnwyn to create a new .ESP with the heightmap data from the image, since it clamps excessive terrain changes and has other similarly handy features.

One downside with this method is that the the SRTM data picks up tall skyscrapers and so my heightmap had a lot of "bumps" in the downtown area that I had to smooth out manually.

Glad to hear you got it working. Curious to know what size you're going with for your city? I'm using a 32x32 cell worldspace for my city but it's relatively linear and a lot of areas aren't accessible. Corresponds to a 1024x1024 pixel heightmap, as processed by TESAnnwyn.

just had a crazy idea, what if we could take the Fallout 1 or 2 world map and put them thru say.. crazybump to generate a heightmap then use it in Microdem/Tesannwyn to generate a new worldmap... hmmm

Do you know how big the Fallout 1 & 2 worldmap actually is? :whistling:

But it is possible to make quite good looking single desert locations and use something like the GTS to connect them, if you want to remake classic Fallout locations.
