New to installing mods. I have no idea what i need to do. help please&

Recommended Posts

I am a complete tech noob too and have never installed any mods before. The mods in specific i want to instal are:

Josef_Greys_Makeup_Face_Retexture_v1-03-205

and

Hair_Pack_v2_1-1146

I unzip them but have no idea what to do next.

If anyone can spell out step by step what i need to do for me or point me to a noob freindly tutorial i overlooked please do so and thank you very much : )

I have the archive invalidation invalidated! now. i still cant figure out the rest though. both mods contain a textures folder that supposedly overwrites old textures right? but there is no texture folder in my Fallout 3 Data folder.

Heres whats in my Data (folder):

Music (folder)

Shaders (folder)

Video (folder)

ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated! (BSA)

Credits (text doc)

Fallout3.esm (ESM)

Fallout - MenuVoices... (BSA)

Fallout - Meshes.bsa (BSA)

Fallout - Misc.bsa (BSA)

Fallout - Sound.bse (BSA)

Fallaout - Textures.bsa (BSA)

Fallout - Voices.bsa (BSA)

Im not sure what the texture and mesh data folders will be overwritting if there are no texture and mesh folders to overwrite. I have Vista 32 bit if that makes any difference and have it installed in c:\Fallout3 instead of programs like the mod installing startup guide suggests. Also the hair modder doesnt speak english and the translated instruction file is hard to understand to someone who doesnt know about this stuff, but it seems as if some files are missing from the zipped file, im not sure. Im completely lost as to what to do as the instructions arent clear enough for someone as unfamiliar with mods and computer files in general as me. Thanks so much for any help.

i just download & install fallout 3 mod manager.

run mod manager

select package manager

select add new

and click on the archive (rar/zip) i want to install (I dont even open the archive, only to read the readme)

pretty simple, it will do everything for you, iv never had a problem doing it this way.

certain mods you may have to change the load order. ( i wouldn't worry bout it for now)

and just check the archive, and make sure there isn't multiple archives in it. (tho there usually isn't)

and just make sure you use archive invalidated, as it makes sure the textures are seen in game.

ok downloaded mod manager : ) thanks alot : )

one problem though. when i go to package manager and add new i then click on the zip file of the mod i want to instal. it then gives me a message in a pop up window saying "the archive contains plugins in sub-directories, and will need a script attached for fomm to install it correctly. not sure what i need to do here.

First what do you mean , replaced files? when you extract BSA files like textures you make a folder with the name for textures also and put it right back in the Data folder area which is best. you should'nt have to replace any files?

That's probably where your problem lies? Which you may need to do a backup of saved games etc then totally reinstall the game again so you get all the esm files (BSA) back for the game to run right>

Good Luck
