Man's Ingenuity

1. An obvious one would be incendiary grenades, which use thermite. Thermite is made from aluminum powder and iron oxide (rust). Considering there is plenty of rust in FO3. You could use tin cans for the grenade.

2. You see many traps in the game, but you can't make any aside from landmines. So a foot trap would be cool along with your own trip wires.

I'm sure someone will make something like that eventually. As I recall, a mod like that was created for Oblivion, not too long after it's release.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time...

Oh, and I just have one question: Will the enemies be overhauled as well? Personally, I can't fathom facing a Super Mutant Behemoth with a knife or a rapid fire BB gun...

The world has died, the cities have exploded, the machines have sputtered and stopped, and all that good stuff. So why, oh why, does everyone have in there possession weapons that were made 200 years ago? Not everyone should have assault rifles, miniguns, or even pistols! Why does no one in the game use homemade weapons? I think that junk weapons should be the standard in the fallout world.

Basically, I want a plethora of craftable (and simple melee) weapons to replace the abundance of guns in the game. You should covet that assault rifle as an extremely rare find. Wastelanders should be using shishkabobs , railway rifles, junk launchers, and even deathclaw gauntlets. I'd also like to give a shout out to the makers of the pipe gun and junk metal blades. That's the kind of stuff we need.

I'd like more of these types of cool weapons, and I'd like them to be added to NPCs and enemies. That doesn't sound so hard, so if someone could add these weapons to leveled lists, that would be great. I understand why Bethesda didn't give them to any NPCs. If they did, we could bypass all the schematic and junk-collecting parts. It would be nice if you can use these crafted weapons, but they actually get more powerful when you have a schematic or two. (iirc, multiple schematics just changed starting condition, right? That was never really explained...)

Oh, and feel free to post some ideas and sketches as suggestions for new craftable weapons. These are the types of weapons that you can really let your creativity loose! Let's see your ideas for odd and quirky homemade guns! How 'bout a makeshift crossbow? A baseball bat with spike sticking through the end? A shiv made from a piece of glass with a cloth for a grip? Go wild, and get someone to make 'em!

Just do what I do, mentally amend the date of the game to around when the first fallout occurred, which is, according to its intro, "one generation" after the exchange. So, basically 40-70 years after the war. The game suddenly makes a whole lot of sense then.

Yeah but I still wanna see some crazy shizzit. I have an idea. They have the Dart Gun, so why not a Nail Gun? Or even better, a Nail Shotgun! You can use Railway Spikes for ammunition, steam gauge assembly as your barrel, motorcycle handbreak as a grip for the bottom, pilot light to ignite something like gunpowder or some other combustible material, and a lawn mower gas tank to hold the combustible material in.

Just a random suggestion... Hell my computer decided to do a flop so I'm using a crappy laptop and can't remember if there even IS gunpowder or something.

I was thinking along these lines the other day - surely if it's been 200 years since guns and ammo were last made, the overwhelming majority would have been used up or broken by now? I love the idea of using whatever comes to hand as a weapon, and getting a firearm being a real achievement and something special (it would finally make the .32 pistol fun  ) The BoS and the Enclave would become all the more impressive.

I also think that there should be more tribal-esque villages, like the one you start off in Fallout 2. Animal skin clothing for the win :D
