Rockatanskiy
After working with meshes for the first time in my entire life, I finally was able to (sorta) make a crossbow. All I basically did was add the meshes of the Dart Gun and the Ebony Bow from Oblivion together. After that, I just rotated, scaled, and translated the bow to look kind of like a crossbow. Since I don't know how to texture, I just used the textures from the Combat Shotgun and its barrel, so it's going to look odd, but still better than having a rainbow colored crossbow! As my first stab at a mesh, I think I did a half decent job, but it's still nowhere near presentable, Not that it matters though; I am not allowed to upload mods that contain resources from Oblivion anyway. On an unimportant note, it uses rail spikes as ammo, and criticals have a knockdown effect. I also used the bow without scaling to create a bow in fallout 3, but it doesn't have any animations and it certainly isn't held in the correct fashion. SpeedyB64
How well does it work? Does it bend?
Rockatanskiy
How well does it work? Does it bend? The reload animation is the same as the dart gun, and unfortunately, no animation in the bow. Hell, I'm just glad there are no clipping issues when it's holstered. Anyway, here's a first person view of the crossbow: Forgot to ask, is there a way to stretch objects in Nifskope? You can scale objects proportionately, but I don't see a stretch command, or the ability to scale along certain axes. I wish I could stretch the bow vertically a little bit, so that the wood looks more pliable and crossbow-ish.
Astorius
Are plain 'ol bows impossible as of now?
skullking777
While I agree, I have to disagree. Of the 122 some odd Vaults that are supposed to contain 1,000 people each (so lot all inhabitants while other had surplus people), this roughly translates into 122,000 survivors, out of that many people, someone had to know how to use weapons and/or repiar them. Not to mention the Enclave is still active and the Brotherhood of Steel are like "Reclaimers" who help the people of the Wastes survive by giving them weapons. Also, you have Intelligent Ghouls that have been alive the last 200 years, and who knows who else is alive around the world. I am not saying it is a bad idea, I am just saying, it is possible to have people running around with weapons 200 years old. The part I do agree with is specifically, Raiders and Super Mutants, more so, Super Mutants. I am not sure how smart thye are, but to me they seem to have a lack of intelligence. They sure as hell wouldn't be able to maintain a miningun and rocket launchers. Raiders I can understand, because they are almost like Guerillas. Super Mutants should have tactics like... the Necromongers from Chronicles of Riddick. Shooters in the back, mass of melee in the front, but they get close to you you're screwed. I believe the canonical answer to "Where do all these guns and their ammo come from after 200 years?" is "The Pitt". I could be wrong, but I think it's also suggested that the Brotherhood maintains some small amount of production capacity. The first Fallout implies that the BoS Knights are responsible for constructing and maintaining weapons, and only the Paladin ranks actually leave on missions. TotallyNotToastyFresh
Crossbows could be some serious fun. I hope someone makes one. Or maybe I could...
