Need guidance regarding alt characters/mods

So I like to mod my game, who here doesn’t  , and also play alt characters and change between those depending how I feel. At best I had at least 5 different characters but updating mods to all alts became quite lot of work (this was before people understood skyrim engine well and were using 3 party software’s to make their mods, clean save “existed” etc.) and I ended up totally ruining several of my saves…

I’ve been thinking what would be best way to use mods when playing alts so amount mods I use doesn’t get too high and risk of conflicts, blowing up skyrim’s medieval script engine  is lower and generally avoid any issues what might come when having many mods installed.

So here's what I’m thinking of doing: There will be general mods that I use for all chars like textures, weather, armor (some), skyre etc. but also specific mods that fit that type of gameplay. Example werewolf mods for my werewolf char, vampire (and related) mods for vampire play trough etc. you got the idea.

I’m not sure though what is best way of doing it? I install all mods I want to use and just disable/enable the esm/esp files depending which character I play (makes sense as general rule). I’m not sure is that the safest way doing it? Can I keep mods that contain scripts (for example) safely installed but esp/esm files disabled without those scripts (or other stuff) getting to all saves? Or is it recommended to keep some mods totally uninstalled if not used currently so there are no scripts or anything from those mods in anywhere?

Is it safe to install/uninstall mods back and forth depending which char I currently play? Doesn’t this cause some mods totally reset if I do this?

Hopefully I explained this well and clearly enough. Maybe I’m making this too complicated for myself, I just don’t want to ruin any more gameplays that I’ve already ruined – which is too many :wallbash:

What I hope here is those who understand skyrim engine etc. better than me would give me guidance what is the best or recommended way to do this.

Thanks
