I guess they are more aesthetically pleasing to look at not that I find game characters particularly attractive, I just prefer their looks to the male ones as well as their voices if they happen to be voiced. Also if they are a very strong personality it makes them just that little bit more badass(can't think of a better word) or if they are the quiet type more sweet.
