Apparently now when try to open FO3's GECK I get this fullscreen blank white with the sub windows behind it. Shortly after the sub windows appear over the fullscreen following up with a "Garden of Creation Kit has stopped working".

I've reinstalled FO3 (left the DLCs + Mods in FO3 folder) and GECK and the problem still occured. So I decided to completely uninstall everything (FO3 + DLCs + Mods) and do a fresh install. I installed a couple of my mods that I needed to edit in GECK and luckily GECK was working fine. I finished up editing my mods and doing what ever I had to do in FO3Edit after blah blah and began to manually install most of my mods. Why? I prefer to. That's a whole different topic I won't get into. Anyways, after installing all the mods I use (100+) I forgot to edit one of my mods so I pop open GECK and the problem has returned.

I'm thinking maybe it's a masterfile or plugin that is causing it, but I've removed all the ESMs and ESPs except for the Fallout3 the DLCs and my mod's plugin I need to edit but yeah... still not working.

I've been modding FO3/FNV for years now without ever having this problem. It's gotten to the point of frustration. Especially knowing that in order for me to get the GECK to work again is to do a complete uninstall/reinstall again. It just sinks too many hours and I'm ready to just give up.

After days and hours of struggling, I finally fixed it. ( a week ago...)

It turns out a text editor I downloaded a week before this problem started to occur was the problem at hand. The text editor was removing 99.9% of text field in my GECKprefs.ini file. The only remaining text in the ini file was...

[General]
Object Category World Objects=2
Object Selection=0

:woot: BINGO! :woot:

The GECKprefs.ini file was being altered (by the text editor) the moment I launched my game. Which then causes GECK to get fuzzy feet when I tried to launch it again. Now before you launch the game. If you look at both GECKprefs.ini and GECKcustoms.ini you'll see that everything in the text field is as it should be. If you open GECKprefs.ini after you've launched FO3 you'll get the missing text field only showing 3 lines at the most (shown above).

Solution: Uninstall the newly text editor you installed. Follow these steps below,

Step 1. Uninstall GECK after you've uninstalled the text editor and try doing a reinstall and see if that fixes it. If not...

Step 2. Uninstall FO3, DLCs, GECK and do a fresh install.

Note: Be sure to delete your GECK ini files after you've uninstalled GECK in either step 1 or step 2 before you reinstall it.

Step 3 (optional): After you've reinstalled GECK. Make a back up of your GECKprefs.ini and GECKcustoms.ini files and paste it in temporary location. (I did Step 3 for test purposes only)

If everything is working normal again. You can delete the back up GECK ini files.

Many thanks to MKtavish over on Bethesda Softworks Forums for helping me out.

Because this is a very rare occurrence. I hope this serves as a reference to those who stumble upon the same problem and have a hard time pin pointing it.

Good Luck!
