Eiade
Give what you think is the most underrated and/or overrated race and why. The most underrated race in my opinion has always been the argonians. They are fast, the female is well-balanced (str 40, int 50, wil 40, agi 40, spd 40) and has good mage qualities in the beginning, the male is more of a fighter but still has some nice stats (str 40, wil 40, agi 50, spd 50). The most overrated race, well, I don't want to say High elves and Bretons just because I don't like them very much, cause thn everyone would be on my case about it... But: I just don't like Bretons because they're slow and clumsy. I know they're supposed to be based in purely mage skills, and they have those nifty resistances, but I guess that's just not my style. I love mages, but I don't want a combat-inept Breton. I like well-balanced characters.
VaanicOne
i dont think any of the races are nderrated, especially argonians. though i rarely hear of anyone playing as bwemer. (i am not saying they are underrated...)
Icefiddell
I'd say the most over-rated would have to be the Dumner (Dark Elves) or the High Elves. Byt then again i'm probably only saying that because ive lost count of how many characters i've played with them and now i'm bored :P
unafragger
Overrated - dark elf - very well rounded, but not REALLY strong in any aspect (JUST an opinion :) UnderRated - wood elf. Excellent marksman skills, which don't come in handy so much later in the game, but it proves very useful early.
Eiade
though i rarely hear of anyone playing as bwemer. (i am not saying they are underrated...) What? What are bwemer? UnderRated - wood elf. I don't know of anyone who specifically doesn't like wood elves. They are actually quite excellent archers. As for Dunmer being overrated, they have 50 speed in both sexes, and a nice 40 in str, int, and agi. I kind of like that they are well-rounded. I don't want a character with specializiation in one aspect. That's why I don't really like Bretons. They're too magic-based.
Ancalagon
I started out playing as an Imperial, but later changed races to Dark Elf, and have been playing them ever since. First, because I like their well-roundedness; second, because as far as choices go for face and hair when in CharGen, they have the most options to choose from. One of my pet peeves is running into myself in Morrowind, Bethseda could have done a lot more in that area but didn't...*cough* Lazy *cough* The Overrated Race I would say is the Dark Elves, because probably a good majority of gamers play as the Dunmer because of their well-roundedness in skills and classes such as combat, stealth and magic. You can be strong in any of those three areas, or even a mix, unlike the Breton and some other races where the Gulf between classes is glaringly obvious. Underrated is tough, since in the two years that I have had Morrowind, I haven't played as another race...but if I had to make a guess, I would say that the other races are underrated, if you don't count the Dunmer. Stupid_Newbie
all Ive played is woodelfs. Archery is the best weapon in the game. I also take Long Sword or other with it. So much advanted to getting in 2 or 3 arrows, then a big sword hit, instead of trying to go toe to toe, chugging potions or casting heal.
Crim, The Red Thunder
What are you saying that wood elfs aren't very good in the end game?!?!?!?!!?!? The one wood-elf i played, managed to take out 7 whole towns, and 5 fortresses (legion forts... and the towns included vivec AND Ebonheart... both interior and exterior cells for every town but vivec...) and never broke a sweat!I finally abandoned the character because the game was TOO easy... it's VERY cheap to have constant levitate (even if its just 1 point....) and sit so high above the city that noone else can touch you, and just rain arrows down on the rest of the world... As long as you are high enough, almost nothing can touch you... this was fun for a while... Im also with the other guy... what the heck are bwemer? Dwemer were dwarves, dunmer are the dark elves (formerly the chimer), and altmer are high elves... i dont know the term for wood elves... is that bwemer??? As for most Overrated race, im going with argonians, or maybe khajiit... to me hand to hand is useles... you cant deal direct damage... (although it's quite a triumph to kill a certain gold-and-silver demi-god with just your hand-to-hand combat... been there, done that... took some MASSIVE enchantments to do it though...), so khajiit arent that great, and there arent enough places where the water breathing is real handy... (Though i can think of about 3 escort quests where it would be nice!!!! *cough* ahemmusa! *cough* *Cough*...)Furthermore, argonians AND khajitt (i think... maybe just argonians...) cannot wear boots, which eliminates 2 of the most useful pieces of armor in the game (to me...) The boots of the apostle, and the boots of blinding speed... both have REALLY good enchantments, and they cant use either one... and without the speed boots, there are NO natural sources of constant speed increase. (except some certain ultimate weapons.... from the final bosses...)
NCBeachBum
Wood elves are bosmer, so that isn't the bwemer. Ironically enough, the very reasons I'm seeing Bretons doubted are the same reasons I like them.... they aren't able to do everything. I like to roleplay different types of characters, and they force you to be a real mage if you are to be successful. If there were any one thing I would change about MW, it would be to add caps to skill levels so that every character isn't the same boring thing after level 30 or so, i.e. a mage could never get his strength above 60, a knight could never raise intelligence above 60, etc. It's for that reason I have to agree that the dunmer are indeed the most overrated, IMO. They're too good at too many things, making them half uber character when you begin.
Eiade
... and without the speed boots, there are NO natural sources of constant speed increase. I assume by the word 'natural' you mean items found in the game. You don't need natural sources. It's called enchanting. You can create your own items that fortify whatever you want. My Argonian currently has a speed of 114 and athletics of 104 (no capping mods). to me hand to hand is useless... I agree. However, it's only 5 points, and 5 points doesn't make much of a difference. The best initial pluses for Argonians is that handy-dandy +15 to athletics. That paired with the Argonians' natural tallness makes for quite a fast-moving character. By the way boots only account for 10% of the total armor rating. As for the Khajiit, noone can doubt that they are hands-down the best thieves in the game.
