Johny Obliv
Hey people, i've got a problem with Oblivion. When i reload my save file in Oblivion, the game crashes and the screen says that there is a Runtime Error. Sometimes it happens after like 3 reloads, but it always happens. The problem just appeared out of nowhere, i never had the problem. I tried reinstalling the game, but that didn't solve the problem. Does anyone know how i can fix this? BossDweebe
It could be a corrupt save. Also when reloading exit to the main menu, or restart the game. Especially ifyou are reloading frequently. These methods help clear the RAM Or - It could be a memory problem. RAM or pagefile.Try re seating you RAM. Make sure you have yourpagefile set up properly. ie 1.5 - 2 times your RAM.Use the same amount for min and max.
Johny Obliv
I don't think it's a corrupt save, because when i make a new save, the problem still occurs. And how do i re seat my ram?
BossDweebe
It's just a long shot. If you are not having problems with other games thendon't bother, but sometimes RAM (and vid cards etc.) fails to work properly,or at all, if it gets just a little bit of dust in between the slot and contacts. Briefly - to re seat your RAM - With the computer off at power supply (no LED lit on motherboard)and case open. First touch a screw, or something similar, on the case to discharge any static electricityfrom your body. Then push back the tabs that hold the RAM in place. Just the top or bottomwill do. Pull the stick out of the holder and push it back in. Don't touch the contacts. Best to look up a toutorial on the web. You should be able to find something with photos, and better detail than I have given. When playing Oblivion be sure to dedicate your machine as much as possible to the game.ie. don't be running any other applications that are not necessary. I even turn my anti virus off.Just my game and controller, and necessary windows stuff. Is your page file set up properly ? It dosen't matter how much RAM you have. You still need a big page file.I have had problems with crashes of all sorts in the past because my page file became corrupt.Sometimes errors stay written to the page file. This is especially true if you have to reboot from a lock upusing the reset button or get a BSOD. There are ways to clear the pagefile on shut down (I use software for this -Tweak XP). So if I have to use the reset button I always reboot again through windows.Another way do defrag the page file is to delete it (In XP through the system tools) reboot and re set it,and don't let windows adjust it automatically. Set it to 1.5 - 2 times your RAM. Same amount for min andmax. Also do a search on the topic of Runtime Error for other possible causes.
Johny Obliv
I searched around for Runtime Error solutions, but i didn't find anything that could help me. I don't think that the problem is with my pagefile, it is correctly set. Could it be because of a mod?
BossDweebe
Hmmm.... When you said "just appeared out of know where" I assumed you had not recentlyinstalled any new mods.If you have then - yes, maybe. Turn off the most recent, and work back from there. When you no longer have the problem then you have found the culprit. Most likely an incorrect installation rather than a mod fault.Having said that. Mod problems usually don't lead to a crash with a runtime error in my experience, but one never knows. On the topic of corrupt save. Did you make your new save after loading the most recent save ? If so thenroll back one or two before the most recent, and play test. Another thing - always check things that you think cannot possibly be wrong, because they often are. Johny Obliv
Well the runtime error just dissappeared again just as sudden as it came. I did turn off thieves arsenal, but i don't know if that would cause it. Maybe it was because i was running too much mods on a video card that can't handle too much. But still thanks for the help people. I gave the people that helped me kudos :)
