Genetic diseases due to the inbreeding are the result of harmfull recessive genes, homozygous populations will (over time) have their harmfull recessive genes extict.

The chance of a mutation it self does NOT change with inbreeding, the chance that of a recessive harmfull gene will show itself DOES increase. But after a few generations a homozygous population is as healthy as a heterozygous state. But with less recessive hidden genes.

If your going to use science and its current day science, use real facts!

Except the FO world is different especially in the sense of scientific knowledge and such. Besides the harnessing of fission and nuclear power, there's the FEV that caused the Super Mutants and such, so why can't genetics be different for this world as well? But if were to be honestly logical, it would have to diverge at some point causing genetic mutations or giving a higher change of defects or just plain evolution, which in FO's case, seems completely plausible. It's a game world with only 50~ pages of history filled and the rest can be filled with whatever. It's a lot of "what if"s which makes lore in games a lot of fun, especially if you can make them playable.

looks freakin' sweet man!

I have to say. you need to make an elevator in the middle that can take you floor to floor, so you don't have to go ALL the way up and ALL the way down.

My rate of harmful recessive genetics becoming active are based on having a pool of people in a small area that has a high exposure to several types of background radiation. That and a need to give some sort of fun. If I went stickily on real world genetics and physics, there would be a lot less fewer metal frame structures standing, next to no wooden structures, radiation exposure would have killed people and animals a lot sooner, the lower percentage of O2 would prohibit such large insects and guns would not function with 200 year old rounds that haven't been hermetical sealed off. One thing I do know is the decay of rounds if not sealed against weather. The brass casings simply would not hold up, so we have to allow that the Fallout world is based on, but is not in fact our world.

I've got to have some sort of comic book explanation for the insanity in the overseer and the staff that goes along with his delusions.

Now - on to the game portions of the thread. ;)

The central shaft will have either a single elevator or several to take you from floor to floor, but it will be a central point for access between layers. The question is how fast the auto repair systems will put back the turrets that annoy the player into using more covert methods of travel.
