topeira
hi there, everyone. i had an idea of how to give weapon VS weapon fighting a much needed improvement through a tiny animation change and i never tried to do anything about it since im not a modder. i am an 2D animator and have experience in martial arts and i hoped i could pitch this tiny idea of mine to you with hope someone will read it and maybe come to a conclusion that it is indeed a good idea and can really bring a much needed feel to the blocking and swordplay in skyrim. the idea is to give an illusion of actively parrying an enemy weapon when blocking with a weapon instead of the feeling that the enemy is attacking your weapon and you, the PC, is just absorbing the hit. in real sword play the parrying fighter is tilting his weapon to connect with the incoming attack. he's not just standing there and taking it. this can be achieved just like in the witcher 2 game - by modifying the tiny animation of "absorbing" the hit. here is what i mean - this is the default blocking / guarding posture:http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=29dk3lu&s=5 http://i41.tinypic.com/29dk3lu.jpgthis is the current absorbing animation - the weapon with which you block recoils backwards towards the player as if it was hit with another weapon:http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=fva5id&s=5 http://i43.tinypic.com/fva5id.jpg this is my idea of REPLACEMENT for the absorption animation-the weapon, instead of pointing left and up and recoiling towards the player, twist quickly (a tenth of a second) so the tip is facing right and up, and a small thrust forward, to imply there is strength to the movement against the momentum of the incoming attack) and immedietly comes back to the gurad pose (this is a 0.5 second animation, give or take):http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=i3h2bk&s=5http://i43.tinypic.com/i3h2bk.jpg(this image is made so the hands are NOT concealed by the body of the player so you can see them more clearly).here is another angle of the same idea - http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=wi134i&s=5http://i42.tinypic.com/wi134i.jpg this animation can fit all 1H weapons AND 2H swords. 2H warhammers and battle axes seem fine, IMO. how the witcher 2 did it - you can see at 2:57 herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL6oduau9Swand in more places throught the clip - there is a static guard pose, but once the attacker touches geralt he goes into a short deflection animation. this sells the illution. assassinc creed does a much more complex idea with this so it isnt an example that can be implemented in skyrim. what do you think of my idea?is there anyone else who mods animations who think this idea can seriously give swordplay the boost it needs and is willing to pick up the gauntlet? RaktoastTheSandwichTopper
i don't think it's possible with skyrim :/ but im probably wrong i know very little about animations and such
topeira
why not? currently there is an animation for absorbing a hit, no? it's pretty apparent with a shield - the defender seems to push the shield farther away from him right before he gets hit. changing the absorbing animation to look as if the defender is rotating his weapon to block and then back to the normal blocking position seems doable to me. what makes you think it isnt possible?here is how i think it can work with 2H weapons + how it should look in combat with two characters fighting - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/109/0wth.jpg/
