sparky84
why is it on some nif files you can copy and paste the nitrishapedata and it will replace the model and on others it just doesnt work. I have tried on the armor nifs and it always does it. the same on most hats. Is there anyway I can get around this, to replace the vanilla nif models. and how do I change between nitrishape data and nitrishapedata. thanks
neunen
if you right click on the NiTriShape node then select "stripify" it will convert it to a NiTriStripsstrips replace strips and shapes replace shapes... also run "update all tangent spaces" under the spells menu after you stripify. I seem to have a problem though, the mesh comes up all distorted in the game. but it looks fine in nifskope. is it something to do with bipeds? neunen
what is it that you are editing? im guessing its armor or a helmet.in my experience that means that mean that youve lost some of the rigging data, and now certain points on the mesh dont know where to connect to the skeleton so they fly off all over the place. are you using blender? theres a tutorial by malos on rigging clothing to his nude body, some of the steps are outdated now though, due to new nifscripts

I'm editing some helmets at the moment but would like how to learn to make armors aswell. I think your right that must be the problem. I will check out that tutorial. I also want to replace the motorcycle bike mod with another model. that is what I'm having the distorted mesh problems with. on Veliv's bike mod he uses a backpack for the main node in the nif file, the bike is equipped as an Armor in the game. neunen
ok i see so with the new model you are making for the bike it needs to be rigged to that backpack node.. since a bike doesnt bend like clothing would it only needs to be rigged to one spot. i cant say specifically for max because i use blender more, but the process basically involves crating vertex groups then parenting them to the bone... or vice versa.. ive only done it once so far. but im sure looking up those key words will get you steps on how to do it in max. So would I have redo it in blender. Wouldn't I able to just copy and paste a new model over the existing one, since its only rigged to one spot. here is a screen shot
neunen
hmm i would think so.. but unfortunately this is an area that im just learning myself. can you post an image of the distortion in the geck preview? did you take the original mesh and then alter that, or replace the entire thing? possibly there are leftover vertex groups from the original, or something similar, that are messing things up.
