bben46
Start with one mod. Get it working first. Then do another. It's best to start with a simple mod, NOT something like a custom body. I have a set of help files for people new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a sample mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them. I have recently started upgrading them with pictures. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ The help files are written for people with minimal computer knowledge and include a geek to English dictionary. The first sample mod does not include any meshes or textures, It only has a .esp. once you can install that, move on to mods with Meshes and textures. Usually the meshes and textures folders are automatically created when you install the first mod that needs them. If you wish, you can create them yourself and the mods will use them. Open the data folder and click in an open space. Then select 'new folder' name the new folder 'Meshes' then create another one and name it 'Textures'. If you choose to Not use the OMOD creation method, unzip your mod directly into the data folder and it should place thing s in the proper places - winzip sometimes gets it wrong, winrar starts nagging you to pay for it after 30 days, Totally FREE 7-zip is much better. When you install a mod, you may be asked if you want to overwrite data, always answer YES, it does not overwrite anything - it appends to the existing data. If you answer no, the mod will not be installed. Here is the contents of a clean install data folder - NO mods - notice there are no Textures or Meshes folders. They are created only when needed. All of the vanilla game textures, meshes etc are in the .bsa files which should never be changed or removed. bben46
@Njorunn You do NOT have to extract the bsa files to install mods in Oblivion. The only reason for doing that would be if you are going to be making your own mod. and needed something from one of the bsa files. I have been installing mods in Oblivion, and helping people to learn how for over 2 1/2 years now.
KottonKing
hey guys i dont have a textures or meshes folder i just have the archive i go C:\bethesda softworks\oblivion\data and have these options: Music (file folder), shaders (file folder), Video (file folder), credits (text doucument), Oblivion.esm (esm file), Oblivion - Meshes (bethesda softworks archive), Oblivion - Misc (bethesda softworks archive, Oblivion - sounds (bethesda softworks archive), Oblivion - Textures - Compressed (bethesda softworks archive), Oblivion - Voices1 (bethesda softworks archive), Oblivion - Voices2 (bethesda softworks archive) these are my only options i have no meshes or textures folder... maybe this is my problem Once you install a MOD the mesh and texture folders will automatically be placed into your C:\bethesda softworks\oblivion\data folder. Like I said, try this http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10171 instead of clicking on files, click on mirror and download the first file then install it like I taught you in my previous post. This one worked for me better than the one under files. So remember, click MIRROR not files. This is the Exnem Eyecandy MOD... To be honest I don't even know how the Eyecandy MOD came up in this post but I'm just going with the flow.
