urgent~! fail to find files! (not pirate version)

I bought three disc (Oblivion, Knights of the nine, Shivering Isles) from EB game, definitely not pirate~!

I have problem with install Knights of the nine since {Oblivion_v1.1FinalEnglish.exe} in my disc of Knights of the nine fails to find files.

it says this:

Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found.

No update done since file contents do not match.

I didn't change install location at begging, it was:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion

I also tried to copy Oblivion_v1.1FinalEnglish.exe to this location but it says the same thing!

En, the instruction tells to install Oblivion_v1.1FinalEnglish.exe first then to install Knights of the nine.exe

I found out I cam install Knights of the nine.exe without any trouble.

I also download a patch called "oblivion_v1.2.0416english.exe", and it also says the same ting:

Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found.

No update done since file contents do not match.

does it matter? I mean, I am going to install Shivering Isles anyway.

How can I solve this?

Is this because I am using windows vista(Chinese language, also not pirate version) as my os?

thanks~~!!!

I don't use Vista, but I believe that installing anything to the default location as you've described can cause these issues.

You can disable UAC protection system, so you have access to your files.

However, I can't comment on the language version. I don't know the answer to that one.

I copied this from the Official forums:

Mods on Windows Vista

Installing mods on a Windows Vista system is bit trickier than it is on Windows XP due to Vista's increased security.

For best results, it is recommended to install Oblivion to a location other than the default C:\Program Files\ folder. Another location such as C:\Oblivion\ or D:\games\Oblivion\ will work better. This will avoid the file permission problems many users have experienced due to the increased security restrictions Vista places on the Program Files folder.

Here is some more info at the same page about installing mods including some Vista Info.

I have Windows Vista.

It is, as Maigrets says, much better to make a new games location outside the Program Files directory on vista, and install it there. If you don't have a second hard drive, you can use C:\Games

I would go ahead and install Shivering Isles, sometimes the update you need is in the Shivering Isles installation.

Also, the language is very important, and very well could be the trouble with the OLD File not found error. \

After you install Shivering Isles, check the properties of your Oblivion.exe and see what version it says.

With patches, the language is important. Make sure your disks are all the same language version - Note there are 2 English language versions, US & UK and they are different.

Shivering Isles only has one English language version, and it works for both.

I recommend playing the Oblivion before installing either KOTN or SI as the latter change some things in the game and they expect you to be a higher level - not strictly required, but makes more sense.

Make sure you install the Oblivion first, and not in the default location, use something like C:\Games Keep it out of the C:\Program Files folder as that one is 'Protected' from changes by the UAC making mods difficult.

Check to see what your patch level is - look in the lower left corner during start up if it is 1.2.0416 you have the latest version. If you need to patch, go to the Beth site http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm and get the patch for your language version of the game.

When installing KOTN you may have to tell it where your game is. KOTN is really a set of 5 or 6 separate mods, it installs itself, and after that you can treat them just like any other mods. I recommend enabling them one at a time and finishing each one before enabling the next, Once enabled, leave it in the game as if you disable it, you will lose any stuff you acquired during the quests.

I think the message you are getting refers to the included patch and not the KOTN itself. If I remember right, it is saying you already have that patch.

Si adds a new world space and a new world map. Nothing in SI will interfere with the normal game until you enter it.

However, SI does have it's own patch - if you install SI before patching Oblivion, do not use the Oblivion patch. Only the SI patch. Just ti confuse everyone, they use the same number on the SI patch as the Oblivion patch.

I skip that "Oblivion_v1.1FinalEnglish.exe" and installed Shivering Isles(it in the C:\Program Files but I did click "run as a administrator" ).

then I found my final version of Oblivion.exe after all the installation is 1.2.0416,and the language is English(us).

With that 1.2.0416, I can basically run the mod I downloaded, I suppose that's fine now, isn't it?

En……it's too late since my location is the default location..should I reinstall it?

Thanks for all your helping, deeply appreciated!!!!

ps: I am new here and I found out Elder Scrolls 4 is a really good game with all these mods!! I'd like to learn how to make mod myself, can anyone kindly tell me where can I get started please??

Thanks.
