Grennolds
Hi there, I am new to this type of thing; so sorry ahead of time if this is in the wrong location. I have some questions that relate to the history connection between the old and new Fallouts, because I have a plan to make a new area in Fallout 3; that is if the story plot does not conflict with the Fallout lore. Starting questions:-what is the name of the president during the time 2077?-why did US powers evacuate to the west, isn't that closer to China, or was significant portions of nations to the east of DC conquered?-Is there any mention as to how US powers made their way west? (method of transport)-Is it ever mentioned how the Brotherhood of Steel got to the Capital Wasteland? (method of transport) I have thoughts and map segments sketched out, and some dialogues for NPCs in progress, but I just do not want it to seem too far out of being possible for the FO universe. This idea may provide an access route through which I would make more locations for the player to explore.

This idea may provide an access route through which I would make more locations for the player to explore. 1. I think one of the terminals in the Capitol Post names the President at the time of the war, but I can't find a name in any other documentation. 2. The Enclave: One of the few old world organizations to survive the Great War, the Enclave was once the shadow government of the United States. Members of the Enclave were hardliners who both embraced the idea of a nuclear war and knew that the common man could not survive it. They believed that as long as the "important people" of the United States survived, they could regroup quickly and wipe out communism once and for all. Though not technically part of the Enclave, many powerful corporations benefited from the Enclave’s actions and their research facilities were protected during the firestorm of 2077.In 2073, as the global race to exploit the handful of remaining natural resources reached its fevered peak, the United States managed to stake a claim on the world's last known supply of crude oil, buried thousands of feet beneath the Pacific Ocean.Poseidon Oil, a major U.S. energy concern, was contracted to build an oil rig and extract the oil. Before long, the oil ran dry and it was abandoned by Poseidon.Come 2077, with total nuclear war rapidly arriving at America's doorstep, the President of the United States and a number of other United States government officials left their posts to take refuge in a number of secret locations around the world. Among them was the Poseidon Oil Rig. Here, the President himself set up a secret base from which the U.S.A. could continue to exist and wage war on China, with the eventual goal of retaking the continental United States. In other words, the Enclave were set up in California, not the actual U.S. Government. The President, a member thereof, set up shop on their Poseidon Oil Rig with a small contingent and Fallout 2 explains the rest. 3. They were in California before the war, see above. 4. According to Fallout: Tactics, they basically made blimps and floated over the Rocky Mountains sometime between Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. They just continued to expand from there, apparently. The blimp idea was always sort of a sore point with adherents to canon.
Grennolds
Ok then. I might as well spill the idea that I have. While thinking about how government members would have evacuated DC when 2077 came about, i thought about the EMP effect, from the nukes, that would have occurred and how there would be trouble traversing on ground or air (ocean probably very bad, who know if the nukes hit ocean targets too or if there was an enemy fleet). I thought up of an idea for a transit system created solely to get the president out of DC and to a neighboring state where they could then, hopefully, safely continue to their planned safe zones. The question about the Brotherhood of Steel was because I plan on making it that they got to where the system ends and were able to use it to finish their journey to DC. I plan on explaining minor details in game for why it would be possible for the BOS to access/use the system, why it is/was functional, and why the BOS do not just use it to make contact with the west BOS. To access the system I have created several ideas, but i do not want to make a complete spoiler of the plan i have.

Not a bad idea, and given the way tensions were before the War, it seems like the sort of thing that would've existed as a backup plan. So, it doesn't spit in the face of canon, if that was what you were concerned about. However, the BoS using it for contact with the West does sort of make you wonder why the Outcasts are so desperate to link up. 'Course of Lyons is holding it and keeping the Outcasts out with deadly force, well... And who knows how much of the tunnel is still in working condition? Maintaining 3,000 miles of underground tunnel is a big job, even for a ridiculously spend-happy government.
