No Looting, No Crafting Overhaul...

tl;dr Yes I want to make a mod where the player doesnt loot and has no crafting skills...

Hey all,

Having now clocked over 400 hrs of skyrim, I finally want to dive into modding myself. And I am starting with an absurbly complex concept (see title of thread...). My reasons; the crafting system in skyrim is a nice addition to TES series. Loot lists in TES games are never great. But for me, I hate looting / inventory / encumbrance etc. Personal taste. Games like Darksiders 1 and Mass Effect 2 had great loot system (aka nothing pretty much). And I want that in Skyrim.

So, aspects of this crazy mod idea would include;-

  • Blacksmith dialogue to take you into crafting menus, craft it, name it, then pay for it. Custom smithing, which for heavier armours, makes complete sense anyway. Same for weapons.
  • Different Smiths would have access to different materials.
  • No enchanting, no enchants! Only artefact have 'magical' effects, (maybe have version for paid enchant, similiar to blacksmith crafting)
  • Remove 3 entire skills (smithing, enchanting alchemy), would be nice to replace them with something else (mounted combat, random couple of others maybe).
  • Remove all potions apart from health, magicka and stamina regen. Make then % based. No alchemy, so have to buy them.
  • Arrow recovery would be like harvesting - would hope to be able to use Harvesting Animation for it.
  • Dungeon loot at end would be gold/jewels/gems maybe and artefacts.
  • Look to merge Bounty Gold for ecomony support (as you would have a lot less gold).
  • Look to have option for 'normalised' weapons and armours - comes down to asthetic choice (considering a lot of modded armour is set to or near deadric anyway).

Anyways, that some of the ideas I want to throw in. But this is very very ambitious. New modder and all. Question is, would people be interested in such a mod. Does Skyirm have good enough story to rely on story and not loot/gear advancement?

Any thoughts, advice, useful links appreaciated

I like the idea of adding paid for enchantments, smithing, and alchemy. Ive always wanted a mod like that because my character doesnt use smithing or enchanting but would still like to benefit from them so he is just willing to pay for it. However, I dont think its a good idea to delete anything because there are still people who would want to smith, enchant, and etc. It's one of those cases where if you dont want it no one is forcing you to use it.

Cheers for the kind words and encouragment folks.

If I can get the 'pay for crafting' system working as I want it, I will more than likely release it as a stand alone mod as it is essentially independant from the main part of the mod - mostly i came up it to still give simple access to custom armour and weapons added by other mods.

Well I know that a mod called economics of skyrim that does almost exactly what you want, but it has been made a private file and is no longer available to download. You will probably be able to find it on another site, but Im not going to post a link because personally I dont really trust very many sites other than the nexus.
