Bmp to DDS or TGA6

I want to change the color of the Boots of the Apostle. On the TES CD, I found the .bmp. How do I use it?

I can change texture on a .dds or a .tga if it's part of an existing plugin but how do I change the color of something that's a part of the basic Morrowind?

Do I have to turn the .bmp into something else?

I tried recoloring the .bmp and put it in Data Files but it doesn't change the color of the boots in the game.

Can anybody help me with that?

Or is there a tutorial somewhere?

Please..

first you have to duplicate the nif file. Then put it into the data files/mesh folder.

don't forget to rename it. Then change the texture, give it another filename and put it in the data files/texture folder. Download, Niftexturer [search on google for it]. Open the program and open the nif file and swap the assigned texture with your new texture.

After that save the nif file and import it in the game.
