But not really...

So, this am I completed getting my new GOTY editiion up and running with my mods installed. I went through the Liberty Prime content after many freezes or CTD, and some murmered expletives. Fight my way to the control room, eliminate Col. Autumn and his buddies, etc...

I start the purifier and watch the cutscene. Once that is over, I am now in the purifier room with unresponsive controls. I cannot move, or do anything really save make wheezing/gasping noises by pressing 'e'. It looks like the game is stuck. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Googling around as well since I've not gotten any responses as of yet. Most entries I've read with a problem similar to mine point to patching the game. Even though 1.6 is what's recommended, I found version 1.7 on the Bethesda site and downloaded that. This isn't helping so far as the patch does not appear to complete. It hits 100% and then starts the game up on it's own. The game then crashes every time.

This is a thread I've started over there as well trying to get some help:

Hello,

I have two problems here. I will try to detail them both as best I can. The first problem leads to the second of course:

Prolougue

I have owned a copy of the Original Release of Fallout 3 for a few years now. My game is modded, of course. Recently, I decided to purchase a copy of the GOTY Edition online. This is apparently done with Steam. Np - I dl the package, move my saves, then revive my mods. I start the game without issue and play through to the end and complete the quest, Take it Back. After activating the purifier, I die and watch the cutscene. After the screen fades to black I am still in the purifier, prone, and unable to move. The only responsive key is 'e' which makes wheezing and gasping noises.

Searching for a solution I stumble upon things in google referring to needing patch 1.6. I download what appears to be the most recent patch, 1.7 from this site. And this creates a couple of issues...

Problem Number One

After downloading patch 1.7 I run it as an adminstrator. It goes through the motions, and starts my game up when it hits 100%. The game promptly crashes before reaching the game menu. I try this multiple times, and even started my game up with mods thinking it might have completed somehow. Still stuck wheezing at the purifier. A few non mentionable utterances later, it occurs to me that my old version was tied to Games for Windows Live. Since the new version of the game I purchased does not have the same code, I figure I need to enable GfWL(Games for Windows Live) in order for the patch to work. This leads to the second problem.

Problem Number Two

I create an account for GfWL and download the client. The client crashes every single time I try to run it. On their download page, Microsoft has a message detailing that as of 8/25 their involvement in that project is done. Since I have no way to even use the GFWL client, I cannot currently fathom how I am to finish patching the game.

Suffice to say, without being able to apply the patch, I cannot fix my problem with being stuck in the purifier unable to do anything but wheeze. Can you help me?

Turns out I was on the wrong track. On the other forum, it was pointed out to me that the Steam version came patched up to 1.7. That user suggested there might be a problem with one of my mods. So, after disabling them all and starting the game via Steam Client one at a time, I was able to find the offending mod.

Crisis averted lol...
