War of the Grand Council: The Lost Documents

OOC:

It made me wish I could do the research in real life...

Wow... you're a freaking loser... (me too)

IC:

Tylen scoffed sarcastically at Cloaked-at-Night's last comment.

"Okay," began Tylen. "We're going to pretend that Dren isn't already surrounded by many of his men. Even in one-on-one combat, Dren is arguably one of the best fighters on this island. I would think twice before even thinking about taking him on."

"You assume I would actually fight him. I'm not a fool. What I had in mind is an 'apology'. Dren is vain, and proud. If I play on that, I might be able to get somewhere. If Isaac's research pans out, that might help too...since I likely wouldn't be able to cast a spell to escape myself. But all this has to wait until later, anyway."

OOC: Not the best choice of words, when traveling in the company of House Hlaalu members, Cloaked-at-night! But i hate dren too, so... Wren will do what she did in the game. BTW... If moon sugar is a real life representation of crystal meth, as some seem to think, it's not 'grown'... is it? Is there some piece of lore i don't know?

IC: "If you wish, Cloaked-at-night, i will help you rescue your friend. I'm not too fond of Dren either... and two might have a better chance then one if it comes to a fight." Wren thinks for a moment, then asks "Tylen, shouldn't Dren be exposed for the traitor he is in attacking us, and allowing these assassinations to go through? He apparently knew about the attacks, so doesn't that make him a traitor? Or is every member of Hlaalu going to be against us? I mean, is it worth exposing ourself to another Hlaalu member as to what we are doing, or should we go into complete hiding?"

"Dren planned to kill us off, so that he could take the note and stop the attacks himself, rather than have a group of self-righteous meddlers do it. To him and the House there is a high possibility that we tell the secret of the documents to the world, and thus destryoing House Hlaalu. If Dren or another high-ranking Hlaalu were to take up our job, the secret would be kept."

Isaac had just finished his food. Licking his fingers, he began, "Well if it's a vow of silence you want, *gulp* you might wanna clear that up now, before we get to the documents." Isaac sat up and stretched untill his armour prohibited him from doing so any longer. "Because, I want to know whats on those documents, and i've come too far to be left out of the game."

"If House Hlaalu falls, House Dres would take their place as a trading powerhouse, which would make matters worse. Personally, the only problem I have with Hlaalu is their position on slavery...and that's only a matter of economics. If they thought they could squeeze more Drakes out of their plantations if their workers were paid free folk, they would do so in a heartbeat. So, I'd say Hlaalu gets my assistance for now, and if I can use the debt incurred to leverage a change on the slavery issue, so much the better. There's a verse of a song I've heard...

The Dres, the southern trading House

Don't seem to be easy to arouse

Unless you mention change or confusion

Or talk of sparking a slave revolution

Then you'll be called a louse

They are not at all likely to give up slavery."

OOC:Essay on House Dres---an Argonian has good reason to not want Dres gaining more power!

Wren shakes her head. "Tylen, you misunderstand, is every councilor and major member of your house going to be trying to kill us? Or was Dren acting on his own. Obviously the rest of the house will want the secret kept, but will they go to the extent of killing us?"

"Well, Dren is the most powerful councilman, so he will be our bigger concern. Only the most trusted and high-ranking of Hlaalu members will be going after us, because their commanders trust that they will not waver in their loyalty upon being told about the documents. So not ALL of Hlaalu will be after us. For instance, most city guards in Hlaalu towns are low-ranking and sometimes commissioned, I would know. They will not be trusted with such information, so that's one thing that is in our favor."

OOC: What Tylen just said is a good example of what I want him to be in this RP. I don't like to think of him as a character but more of an inside-man that answers the party's questions about politics, religion, Dunmer tradition, whatever else, and he's a reference for info about House Hlaalu, which is what is needed.

Wren looks puzzled for a moment by Tylen's words... "I thought that the emperor was a member of the Hlaalu council... Isn't he more powerful? If so, wouldn't he be able to put his own gaurd forces at work, or worse yet, declare us outlaws?"
