Eiade
Waylas sensed negative vibes from the Breton."If your dislike towards me is about the slaves," said the captain. "Then you should know the whole story before you jump to conclusions like that. I don't trade slaves. I don't use slaves. I just get paid buy the traders to transport them. Money is money. And when business is slow, you take what you get."
Crim, The Red Thunder
Wren, overhearing the conversation, looked straight at the old man, glared, and said in a dead-even voice, giving a dangerous impression to her: "That's hardly any better. If you wanted money, im sure you could have shipped Sujamma, cyrodillic brandy, mazte, or some other liquor. You could ship cargo for stores. Do you have any idea where those slaves could end up?" Harver
:: the course grain of the wooden crate beneath Harver's rear caught and abused the fabric of his breeches. He paid no heed to this as he leaned back against the railing of the ship. His arms were extended over the rail and his eyes were bound portside. Over the muddle of the water, Harver heard a bitter exchange over the Captains chosen trade. Harver got up quickly and moved over to Wren when he threw a miffed reply to the Captain. He leaned quickly towards Wren's ear:: "My friend, I can sympathize with how you feel but this is no time to quarrel. This man may be a slave trader but he is also the captain of this ship. The last thing I would want to do is to enrage the captain of the ship I am on. In addition,..." ::Harver's voice dropped to an even lower whisper:: "We are on a bit of an important mission. Keep your eyes on the prize. I would not want to see all your energy used up here or, if you are unlucky, swimming to shore. So, try to keep your personal battles at bay till we are finished" :: Harvers head turns to the Captian. He stands up quickly and respectfully:: "Forgive me and my friend here for whispering before you. I was just educating my friend here on good ship manners"
Crim, The Red Thunder
Wren nods at harver, turns to the captain, and apolgizes. "Sorry about that... i just have some strong feelings on the issue. I sincerely apologize." *Hands ship captain 200 gold*
tyjet3
Daric looked over at Waylas after his comment, then simply looked down. As Daric turned to look away Wren charmed in and had some of her own comments. Harver then whispered into her ear. Wren then handed the captain a small bag. Wren then walked to the other side of the ship and stood with some of the others. Daric could tell he was making this boat ride tense... He walked over to Waylas and look up at him. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry me and her feel this way. I personally, have a bad experience with slave holders... I understand that you have to make a living anyway you can. I can't say I respect your career desicion, but I understand that you had no chioce sometimes. I will try to stay out of your way." Daric didn't even give the captain a chance to respond and went over to stand next to Wren. "Hey Wren... Thanks for letting things go. I know how hard it can be. You have a good heart, and lots of courage. I'm glad you are here with us. Just try not to let your emotions get the best of you."
Eiade
"For everyone's information," said Waylas, addressing noone in particular. "I don't exclusively trade slaves. Most of my business comes from farms wishing to transport crops, and also people wanting transport across water. And while you're in Morrowind, you might as well get used to slavery and not get so riled up about it. You'll see it more and more. Slaves are an essential part of Dunmer culture, and without them, the social structure would be weakened. I know that it is unjust and immoral, but it's a practice that has been here for hundreds of years and shows no sign of fading." With that, the captain tossed the bag of gold back to the Nord woman. "Keep your money," he told her. "And try to be more understanding of different cultures." Tylen remained silent, but bothered. He had only recently seen how outlanders were zealously against slavery. Tylen had grown up in a society where slavery was normal. The only slave masters who were scolded by society were masters who were overly abusive towards their slaves. But a family having a slave or two was normal. He personally disliked how self-righteous some outlanders were, thinking that their own society was right and good, and better than others. He kept his mouth shut, for he was used to dealing with such things. After the episode happened, he had lost no respect for Wren or Daric; he had expected such things from outlanders. After an hour or so, the boat finally escaped from the waters of the archipegalo of the Ascadian Isles, and was now emerging into the Inner Sea, and sailing along the coast. Fishystick
Vallréy was sitting around, singing a song about the sea that he had learnt from his brother while trying to carve a flute using a small piece of wood and the tip of an arrow. It wasn't easy, but when he was finished, it was a fairly good flute. Vallréy inspected his work, then laid it down on a crate. "Will we arrive soon, captain?", he asked the redguard. "Soon", the captain grunted. "I see.. do you make a lot of trips around here?", Vallréy asked the captain. "Yes", the captain grunted back before he turned around to talk to his wife. Vallréy, getting pretty bored by now, sat down next to the crate where he had sat before and continued with his songs.
Harver
::Harver sat back down on the crate. His arms, once again, spanned over the railing. He heard a familiar song being sung. He closed his eyes and listened for a while before it stopped. After a brief pause, Vallrey started with more songs. One that he was particularly fond of, "The Hills Glitter with Moondust", started and Harver could not help himself but to join in. His guts were swimming and his muscles were tense with anticipation and yet, a good song always brought it out in him.::
Fishystick
Vallréy watched Harver and a big grin spread across his face as he started singing even louder. The boat was making it's way towards their destination and Vallréy could see various animals at the coast and small colorfull birds chasing eachother between the trees. Vallréy reached for his carved flute and started playing along with the words in the song.
Eiade
Another hour passed and in the distance the party could see Seyda Neen, a small busy coastal town with an Empire-owned dock. Also visible were small rafts and canoes out on the water near the town; fishing was one of Seyda Neen's few exports. The skimmer continued past Seyda Neen, and came close (within 30 yards) to a small island (OOC: check your Vvardenfell map, it's the largest island west of Seyda Neen). The island had features of any spot of land on the Bitter Coast: moss-covered trees and rocks, dark moist soil, green algae-filled inland pools, mosses that hung from large tree branches that spanned several yards, and so on. Tylen saw the island, and he saw something that made his stomach twist. He stopped leaning against the wall, uncrossed his arms, and squinted. His Merian (OOC: yes, that is a word, it pertains to Bosmer, Dunmer, Altmer) eyes caught sight of something moving in the brush and trees. No, many things. Isaac then caught sight of them as well. He saw a rubbery wing poke out. Cliff racers. Hopefully they won't notice our presence, Tylen thought. He watched in anticipation what they would do. He heard a squawk or two, and the racers left their perches and climbed into the air. Uh oh. The whole party now caught sight of them. Seven... no, eight cliff racers. Vvardenfell became more and more populated since the Empire came, pushing Cliff racers out of their habitats, and making them increasingly and eventually zealously territorial. The creatures would attack anything they saw. The flock sped through the air at the ship. Vallrey had already dropped his flute, and was already aiming with his bow, waiting for the racers to come within a decent range to hit a swiftly moving target. When the time came, some of the party had already drawn their weapons, and the Bosmer took the shot at the lead racer. The glass arrow hit its mark at the giant bird's body, killing it. Its body then came spiraling down head first, also with forward momentum from its flight, and it hit the sail. Its sharp beak, paired with its high speed, allowed it to cut a hole straight through the sail on the right side. Its whole body went through the sail, and a single strand from the tightly-woven sail was caught in its beak. To the party's horror, the weight of the dead bird pulled at the strand, and, with a long, terrible ripping sound, left a huge downward gash in the sail. Tylen drew his own sword and prepared to fight, and the small horde of cliff racers decended upon the party... Tylen: He is now on the starboard, after rushing there with his sword in hand. Racer is charging him.Daric: You are starboard (right side, towards the coast). You are in the process of drawing your mace, with a racer coming at you as well.Harver: You are also on the starboard side, with a racer coming straight for you. Your spear is drawn.Vallrey: You are on the far side of the boat (the port (left) side, away from the coast). You are not directly under attack, but the racers are moving too fast for you to get a good shot... unless you were to simply sit back and wait for a racer to hold still for a second, but who knows how long or short that would take? It is up to you what to do.Wren: You are in the middle of the boat, weapon drawn, racer coming at you. There is no time for your crossbow. You wield your axe right now.Isaac: Your staff is readily available, but magic even more so. You are not in any direct danger at this moment. It is up to you what to do. OOC: This is the system that we're going to try for battles. Explaination: You, as the players (well, actually me too, I also have a character), are to engage in battle, and put into writing the fight that you see in your head. Any new RPer's, go ahead and wait for other more experienced people to post first so you know what to do. Fishystick, Flightlessbird, Tyjet3, battle writing will be the same kind of thing as it was in the Everyday RP: don't kill in one hit, make the fight interesting, yadda yadda. Also: cliff racers are not very powerful or difficult creatures, they are more of a semi-deadly nuisance. Your characters will not have much difficulty with these enemies. Cliff racers are also a VERY common occurance in Vvardenfell, so a little bit of power-posing may be allowed. Harver: Your character is new to Vvardenfell. He has never fought these creatures before, and may a little inept and/or have some difficulty. Take this into account when you fight.
