Complex Navmesh questions

Hi guys, new to the forums :)

My only real experience with Bethesda editors was with Morrowind, so Navmeshes are very new to me.

I'm doing okay making them manually, but my question is about using the Navmesh generator to do it (or at least the majority of it) for me.

The level I've been working on is a pretty large cave, with a lot of dips, angles, walkable rocks, etc. and I've had bad luck with trying to generate the meshes.

I was moderately successful using the advanced navmesh feature, and choosing what objects to generate meshes for. The weird thing is that objects with flat surfaces didn't get covered with meshes, only a couple parts (if any).

 

Anyway, I was hoping someone could either direct me to some information about how to get some nice clean meshes that will cover all walkable surfaces or explain to me what I need to do to set up the navmesh generator to do it.

I've done some playing around with the navmesh generator to see what produces better/worse results and my general recommendation is DON'T USE IT. The results suck and take longer to fix that to just start over by hand. Watch the two youtube videos on navmeshing by bethesda and you'll get the hang of "walking the dog".
