Hello Community

I'm having a problem with my save files since yesterday. Here's what happened:

I installed several mods suggested by Gopher in his Beginner's Guide. Those are:

-SKSE

-A Quality World Map

-Better Dialogue Control

-Better Dynamic Snow

-Climates of Tamriel (incl. Sounds)

-iHud

-Realistic Lighting Overhaul

-Skyrim HD LITE

-SkyUI

-SMIM

-Unofficial High Resolution Patch

-Unofficial Skyrim Patch

-W.A.T.E.R.

So far, so good, to this point everything worked and was just fine.

But then I tried to install the Opethfeldt ENB, and here the problems start. After installing the ENB I couldn't start Skyrim anymore. When I tried to start it, there appeared an error message that said something like "the file d3dx9_43.dll (or something similiar) is missing". Since I didn't want to mess up my game any further, I stopped right there and undid every change I've made in the process of the installing in reverse order. After this, I still got the error message. I uninstalled and reinstalled all the mods I had before, nothing worked. So I decided to reinstall Skyrim from scratch. Now I can open the game without problems, but my saved games don't load. Right after clicking the load-button or during the loading screen, the game closes and I get thrown at my desktop without an error message or anything like that. What I found to be really strange: There are some old saves that I can load. Those are saves created before I started modding the game or just after beginning with modding. I can also create a new game.

Can you somehow help me to get these saves working again or are they lost? I'd appreciate your help very much! And please also tell me whether I have made any mistakes I shouldn't, since I'm fairly new to modding I could use the critique. If you need more information in order to help me, please tell me.

Thank you very much!

try to install all mods again (except of EnB) and then try to load your latest safe. some of those mods could be essential to load your latest save game.

Did you get any error message? maybe try to load the game + all mods in Creation Kit and look what error msg's you get

No, I don't get any error message, the game just closes. What's this creation kit and how do I get it? Never heard or read of it, like I said, I'm a newbie to modding.

Creation Kit is the official game editor for TES V.

http://www.creationkit.com/

if you have steam then go under tools and start the creation kit, if not download it somewhere.

Once installed you activate all .esm's and .esp's and load it into the editor.

I wouldn't recommend messing with the CK and altering things to try and fix load orders etc.

Download Tes5edit and load it up, make sure all your mods are active (the ones you use to play) and see what error message appears.

Can you start a new game?

When installing an ENB you copy the files directly into your skyrim directory. Did you by any chance copy the enb binary d3d9.dll into windows\system32?

I now found and installed the Creation Kit. When I load my game with all the mods I get like a thousand warnings. I just clicked "yes" for like ten minutes and there's no end to it. Some of them say that there are textures or environment maps missing, that a texture doesn't contain mipmaps, that it's not unique, that marker properties mismatch etc.

What to do now?

Thanks for your answer!

I'm going to download Tes5edit right now and try it out.

Yes, I can start a new game.

And indeed there is a file called d3d9.dll in my system32 folder. But I don't remember putting it there myself. What to do with it?

no probs :)

Leave that file well alone :)

Might help to run BOSS then Tes5edit just to see what BOSS might suggest/report and then Tes5edit for any mod load order discrepancies.

If you've fresh installed your saves won't work if the mods used were essential to the save aren't installed.

Make sure you use any compatibility patches for the appropriate mods (CoT has a few, WATER etc)
