Abramul
I was trying to figure out if there is a way to restrict the number of spells you can have for each of the Colleges. Also, if you delete a spell, do you retain knowlege of that effect? I was thinking something like this:-------------------------Maximum SpellsMajor-------------------1/3 Skill LevelMinor-------------------1/5 Skill LevelMisc.--------------------1/10 Skill LevelMagic Specialization---*2 for all Colleges ---One other thing...the reason I'm asking is this. My character is a Redguard Knight, and SHOULDN'T be a spell caster. However, I have 100-150 spells, and would like to have to actually take the time to decide what would be USEFUL rather than just buying everything. Of course, this would place more emphasis on enchanted items for the non spellcasters.
Marxist ßastard
It's possible, but you would need to script for every spell the PC could possibly have -- thus, this would be impractical unless your target audience isn't running any mods at all, or you had a program that would, before Morrowind.exe is started, read Morrowind.ini, extract the SPEL records from every data file listed, and generate scripts based on the data collected. dunmer_jediknight
would a global script that just gives spells to a certin class work? It would remove the skills from the pcs caracter list if they wern't one of the magic classes so the player couldn't cast magic. And as for npcs you could go under the class tab on the CS and deleat the spell skills for all the classes that you don't want to cast spells. As for me I like how everyone can learn magic spells to survive in the game.
Abramul
Oh. When I said I shouldn't be a spellcaster, I just meant that spells shouldn't be a primary tool, but rather something that I *can* use, but not easily enough to whup on people ONLY with spells. After all, I do use plenty of enchantments.
Akrid
I like the idea. The way I would do it is remaking all the spells, I would make a script that hits the player with a constant effect of no magic, like -999999 so spells would be impossible but you dont have to do that you can just make the stats bad enuff that spells are less effective. Then for the confused players that play the mod, add a topic into the game that you can ask mages and wizards about called "how to use spells" or somthing, then they explain how as a outlander you cant use spells good but there is a way to get good spells by finding acent runes or somthing, just use your imagination. It could be like a wand or sword that allows you to cast a powerfull spell using charges, but the magic way to do it is make your own spells in the CS and make them use hardly any magic so your magic impitent soldier can use only what spells you create for him, and you can have the negitive magic buffing script disabled for playing as a mage or somthing, so they can still use any spell. Abramul
Actually, a better way to do this would be to allow the PC to learn the spells, but not have the Magicka to cast them. Then, you would be able to get enchanted items, but wouldn't be addicted to spell use. Would that work? Got a belt with Damage Magicka 1 CE, that should help. I can still get a high enough MP store to work spells, but it drains if I don't use it.

The problem with that is it makes all spells avaliable and your right back to your first problem, where you can just go buy out the list of spells. I think decreasing magicka would be the first step, that way nomatter what the mod the spells wont be good or worth useing for the non magicka users like barbarians and warriors. I'm sure theres a way to tell what the players proffession is if they chosse from a list, but it may work better just to see what thier base skills are that level them up and make a script that works off that. If you dont know how to script ask around the site, there are some great scripters here. Then instead of using items to give magicka just add your own spells in for low level magicka users, that way its all fair and balanced.
