Sin911
I've heard alot of people having trouble uninstalling the original version also. I think it all comes down to the proverbial 'roll of the dice' :)

usernamesux
Either way, it's a great game & I will enjoy it for years to come. Thanks Bethesda! P.S. Thanks dezdimona for that info, the more I learn, the more I feel like a newb  , Now where do I insert the disk? lol!
Halororor
I had normal version and could install/uninstall perfectly. I installed GOTY, went to uninstall and it came up with the message to insert GOTY disc... WTF!! When I did so, it would not uninstall and came up with another error message!!! I spent just under a DAY to remove it, and had to borrow the original discs to do so. That is why I would recommend against GOTY. I feel like I have wasted $$$, as I will now have to buy the original standalone editions. GOTY has a BIG issue, I will try and find someone local to sell GOTY to ;) Maybe it just comes down to bad luck, I remember my Command & Conquer 3 didn't want to uninstall, even though it didn't have the same problem on my brother's pc. Maybe your right. It's just that I lent my brother the GOTY edition, and he had the same uninstall problems. Fortunatly he had the original version, so that was installed over the top and than an uninstall. Mine was alot harder to uninstall. But it could be bad luck as you say :)
Frodric
I've always wondered why they make you use the disks to remove it. Seems more of a hassle for your customers then is needed or warranted.
Henrydylan
I bought GOTY and found out to my frustration that the UOP and SI patches caused constant crashes and lock-ups, it works great without them, so I can safely say you do not need to install the extra patches as they're obviously already included. :wallbash: If it's true though that you don't get all the KOTN updates like in the regular KOTN then I think I'll have to go buy it. :thanks:
myrmaad
First, It's very simple to uninstall, but you do need the original disk in to uninstall. And I was under the distinct impression that unless you're using a CRACK (not allowed to be discussed here), you need to have the disk in to play. If you do have trouble uninstalling either version, I posted an idiot's guide to uninstalling WITH PICTURES, so PM me or search my username if you need to see pics. In a nutshell, you simply explore the disk and select the setup.exe and run it from there (drive D or E or G or whatever your CD/DVD drive is). :whistling:  If you use the CD as you're supposed to, and have multiple CD/DVD drives, you won't forget and try to uninstall it from a drive other than the one you installed it from. Anyhoo. I have the GOTY edition, and I do not use the unofficial oblivion patch, nor do I want to. I love my GOTY edition. And I also spent $10 on KOTN DLC disk, after also buying some DLC that didn't want to cooperate with Vista. No regrets. Please. For such a nominal investment I've enjoyed thousands of hours of entertainment. You can't beat that with a stick.
NAPALM13092
I bought GOTY and no problems what so ever the first disk was the standard game and the second installed SI and Knights and all the other content you don't get is pointless anyway its all basically 4 different houses that are nothing compared to some user created castle mods so I wouldn't use them anyway (Castle Almgard kicks the crap out of Fighters Fortress) and long quest for a mediocre at best dagger (The Mehrune's Razor dungeon was better than the crap dagger) or its horse armor which you would only want if you were a big time role player and don't get me started on the Orrey that is the stupidest one a short boring quest for a useless machine that gives you stupid abilities. The ONLY extra content that is any good in my opinion is SI and Knights other than that you have 1000's of mods to keep you busy and GOTY works with every single mod I have ever used no problem so getting GOTY is the way to go hands down. Alithinos
guys,i 've got goty.i installed it without any problems.it's a bargain to buy it with the expansions at this low price, all in one box.the "bad" point is that they have fixed the bugs that were letting you to duplicate items and have infinite cash.So unless you want to cheat the game and become rich without doing anything,i recommend the GOTY edition.Of caurse the best would be to find the collectors edition "very rare now since there was only a few" that contained extra dvd with the "making of",a "guide to Cyrodill" booklet supossed that is written from an elf,and a replica Septim Coin at real dimensions 1:1.But all those editions are now selled. You can find the extras at e-bay costing each the same money the whole game costs.
