Episode 4-Fragments

Soon enough, they reunited with the rest of the crew back in the crew’s quarters. EDI wasn’t with them.

Liara: “So, have you been able to see Shepard?”
Jewel: “We have….he….uh….we’re real sorry about….your commander. It must be hard to see him like that.”
The crew members seemed despondent.
Star: “We know he means a lot to you.”
Flare: “Indeed, Ashley told us that he’s more than just your commander, he’s your friend.”
Tali: “Yes….he is…”
Splash: “We’ve also heard that he risked his life to save this entire galaxy. I hope that he wakes up soon…”
Liara: “We believe that he will. We don’t know how but…”
Jewel: “Yeah, we know that, too and when he does, he’ll know about us.”
Liara: “How so…?”
Jewel: “Let’s just say…I gave him something….in which he will know everything he can about who we are, much like how you know that he will eventually come to.”
Traynor: “Well, if you say so…”
Miranda: “We don’t know how, but….we believe you, just like we believe that he will wake up…”
Flare: “Hm….you know….that is really strange….how can we be so sure about that? There really is no telling if he will….well…except for someone like me who can sense out auras.”
Star: “Hm….could there be some magical force at work here? Perhaps an unseen entity telling them that he will make it?”
Everyone stood by without saying anything.
Garrus: “OK, that’s just crazy, I mean, really, Star? Some magical entity telling us that everyone near and dear to us will miraculously awaken from their comatose state? I find that hard to believe.”
Liara: “Is it? A lot of people were able to awaken from their comas after that long war with the immortal robots that tried to wipe us out, but…their coming to didn’t come as a surprise to us at all.”
Tali: “Yeah, it’s almost like we knew that they would.”
Miranda: “Not to mention the fact that a lot of those people being alive is a miracle as there would be no way for them to survive. Some of their injuries were far too severe for them to.”
Thane: “Yes and I am one of those people. I thought I would have died after I helped to prevent Cerberus from taking over the Citadel. I was truly fatally wounded but instead of dying, I was put into a coma. It felt like some divine force was preventing me from dying.”
Ashley: “Yes, of course….perhaps….what Star is saying…..truly makes sense….somehow….”
Everyone stood by without saying anything for a while.
Traynor: “Well….I believe it….I mean…..is there really any other way to explain a lot of the miracles that have happened after the Reapers were finally destroyed?”
Liara: “No…..I….I don’t think there is any other explanation….at least….none that I can think of…..”
Miranda: “And we can’t rule out magic as being real after we met these girls.”
Garrus: “Well…..if you guys put it that way….besides…..we have been experiencing a lot of weird things going on, even before the Fayelons arrived in our galaxy.”
Star: “Well, that’s that, I guess. But, I wonder, could someone really be looking after us? Or is there something else going on?”
Everyone stood by, thinking for a moment.
Jewel: “I think we should think this over during dinner.”
Star: “Great idea, Jewel. I’m starving!!”
Tali: “As if you haven’t been saying that enough, Star.”
Star: “Hey! Cut me some slack!! I’ve been worn out for who knows how long and I need to get some food into me before the magical energy within my body wears out!!”
Tali: “Alright, alright, we get it.”
Miranda let out a gentle and soft chuckle.
Miranda: “Come on, dinner should be ready right about now.”
They all walked off. At that time, Flare stopped and looked over towards another direction. From there, she seemed to have spotted what appeared to be an entity portrayed as a silhouette of bright light. She can’t actually see it, but she is able to sense it out, to which the silhouette can be displayed whenever Flare goes into these sensing incidences. From there, the area behind her turns orange, the indication of these incidences. Her sensing abilities are so potent that she is able to sense that the entity is smiling, almost as though she could see that it is. Flare stood by and sensed out this entity, looking over towards it. It truly was almost as though she could see it.
The group arrived at the tables. There, they were overjoyed to see a lot of food on the tables.
Aera: “Oh, wow!”
Star: “Hm! That Gardner has really outdone himself! This all looks good!!”
Splash: “And not a single trace of fish in sight! I’m liking it already!”
It didn’t take them long before they noticed that Flare was a lot more than overjoyed as her eyes glittered over the sight of the food. She rushed over to the food and started stuffing her face. Her friends were looking at her as they knew this would happen, to which they did.
Aera: “Oh, boy, there she goes again.”
Splash: “Hey! Leave some for the rest of us!”
Star: “Yeah! Don’t eat all of it like you nearly did last time!”
Flare paused before she had a chance to devour everything and swallowed the last of the food that she had in her mouth.
Flare: “Oh! Uh…sorry, where are my manners? I guess I got carried away.”
Star: “Yeah, again.”
She smiled a nervous grin as she placed her hand behind her head.
Miranda: “Wow, I didn’t know Flare loved food so much.”
Jewel: “Yeah…..Flare has a….very high metabolism, as we were told once. She can finish off an entire banquet all by herself.”
Garrus: “Huh! Talk about a fierce appetite, almost as fierce as her pyro abilities.”
Star: “Yep, pretty much.”
Liara: “But wait a second. Flare wasn’t at all anxious about waiting for the meals to be cooked.”
Tali: “That’s right, she was incredibly patient and yet, her reaction to the food is completely different, almost like night and day.”
Aera: “Yeah, Flare is usually very disciplined, so she tends to be patient. She’s really good at waiting without making any fuss.”
Star: “But the second that she sees food, she loses control of herself. It’s one of those rare moments in which she does, but otherwise, she’s very calm and composed. Just keep her out of the food prep areas and she’ll be fine.”
Jacob: “We’ll….keep that in mind.”
Traynor: “Huh, I wonder why that is.”
Splash: “Probably has something to do with her advanced training that’s part of her culture.”
Miranda: “Advanced training?”
Jewel: “It’s a long story, we’ll talk more about it later.”
Star: “Alright, enough chatter, let’s start chowing down.”
Miranda: “Of course, before Flare eats it all.”
Everyone sat down at the tables and started eating. The girls had more portions of food than the members of the Normandy crew as they needed to eat more than the others. They were all enjoying the meals. Flare grabbed large fists-full of food and piled her plate. Gardner then walked up to them.
Gardner: “So, how are you enjoying the food, girls?”
Star: “Everything’s great, Gardner, thanks.”
Gardner: “Don’t mention it. I’m more than happy to help out.”
He then looked over towards Splash.
Gardner: “And what about you, little lady? How’s the gazpacho? I made it special for you.”
Splash: “It’s really good. Thanks for preparing this for me.”
Gardner: “Don’t mention it. I’ve never seen anyone throw a temper tantrum over fish food, much less one that was as fierce and terrifying as yours.”
Splash: “Um….yeah….sorry about that….I…I guess I got carried away….”
Gardner: “Well, don’t you worry about that, little lady. That’ll be the last time that I order anything from the fish market, for you at least.”
Splash: “Much obliged.”
Gardner walked off.
Tali: “Uh…did Splash just give off the evil eye when Gardner mentioned fish market?”
Aera: “You’ll get use to it.”
Star: “So, this Commander Shepard, can you tell us more about him? I’d like to get to know who he is.”
Liara: “Commander Shepard is an amazing person, perhaps the most amazing human we have ever known.”
Aera: “So, what makes him so amazing?”
Ashley: “He’s a natural born leader. He’s strong, dedicated, he can inspire anyone to fight by his side.”
Miranda: “He’s always had that drive, that fire, that would push anyone into doing whatever it is that he needs them to do without so much as even mentioning it. It’s almost like…whenever you’re near him, you’ll be willing to stand by his side and fight with him even to the bitter end.”
Star: “Wow! He sounds amazing!”
Miranda: “He is.”
Jewel: “So, we heard that he saved the galaxy. What was it that was happening here?”
Everyone sat silent for a brief moment as they seemed melancholy.
Ashley: “A year ago, the entire galaxy was attacked by an immortal race of giant machines known as the Reapers….it was….a rough ride to say the least.”
Aera: “Hm, sounds intense.”
Garrus: “Yes…that would be an understatement.”
Ashley: “The fight itself didn’t even start with them invading. It was….a few years back, we were dealing with…their return…”
Splash: “Their….return….?”
Ashley: “Yes, it all started with…well…when I first met Shepard, I was part of a squad that was stationed on Eden Prime, a planet that humans colonized. From what I’ve heard, Shepard was sent down with a few other men and he was also with a turian Spectre.”
Star: “Spectre? What’s a Spectre?”
Liara: “A Spectre is a special agent who works for the Citadel Council. They are very much like officials who can go anywhere and do whatever they want, mainly what other authority figures couldn’t do.”
Garrus: “They pretty much have every right to skirt the law, whatever they can to solve any major issues within the galaxy. They handle the major issues that regular law enforcement is too bogged down to, such someone from C-Sec. I should know; I lived that life.”
Jewel: “Hm….”
Jewel held a jewel in her hand as she looked down at it.
Star: “So, Shepard worked with this turian Spectre. What happened to him?”
Ashley: “Well, I didn’t know much because I joined Shepard in the fight after he arrived on Eden Prime. My entire squad was already dead, so I offered to lend an extra hand. I…from what I’ve heard, the turian Spectre…was sent by the council to observe Shepard as a possible candidate to become a Spectre.”
Aera: “Hm, sounds like a Spectre isn’t a title that can be given away so easily.”
Jewel continued to examine the jewel in her hand.
Liara: “No, it is a very special title. It is granted to those who…meet special requirements. Only the best of the best in the galaxy would qualify to be selected as one.”
Jewel: “From what I can tell, they need special skills, mainly in the military department. They are able to break certain laws as long as it’s nothing too drastic. They do whatever it takes to uphold stability in the galaxy and they only answer to the Council.”
Liara: “Yes, that’s exactly right!”
Ashley: “But….how did you know all of that? There’s no way that you would have been able to figure that out all by yourself.”
Jewel: “No, I wouldn’t, but I have this.”
She held out the jewel that she was looking at.
Liara: “Another gem?”
Star: “Ohhhhh! It’s one of those jewels!!!”
Jewel smiled a gleeful and confident smile.
Jewel: “That’s right.”
Ashley: “Um…..am I missing something? What does a gem have to do with knowing about the Spectres?”
Jewel: “You remember that I mentioned us Gemma Kinetics can create jewels with special functions? Well, this particular gem is what’s known as an Intel Crystal. It can collect useful intel of any new place that we enter and have never been to before. It’s how we were able to survive when we drifted from one realm to another. It’s also how we were able to find out about those drinks that the rude bartender tried to serve us being inappropriate for our age group.”
Garrus: “Oh, so that’s how you were able to figure that out. You girls definitely don’t look like you’re from around here even though you look a lot like humans.”
Jewel: “Yep, that’s exactly right.”
Star: “Although….we never got around to paying for our drinks. I feel kind of bad for that.”
Garrus: “Not to worry, girls. I already spoke with the owner of that bar, he offered to comp your drinks for your botched experience with that bartender. Turns out he’s had a number of issues with that guy, so your incident wasn’t the first.”
Star: “Heh! Figures.”
Grunt: “So, you just so happen to conveniently conjure up a jewel that can tell you pretty anything that you want to know. Sounds a little too ridiculous if you ask me.”
Star: “Oh, yeah? Well, what about those Red Earth girls? I heard that they have a cute, fluffy creature that can magically conjure up food and shelters from nothing and can also functioning as a living tracking system! I’d be surprised if anyone would think nothing of that! Ah….what I give to have a cute, fluffy creature that can summon delicious food and 5-star hotels from thin-air.”
Everyone stood and stared at her with startled looks on their faces.
Tali: “Uh….right, so, back to the topic of Commander Shepard.”
Star: “Of course, I’m sure lots of you have interesting stories to tell about the commander. I would also love to hear more about the Spectre.”
Jewel: “Same here, my Intel Crystals can only gather so much information within any realm, so I don’t know everything about this place. Besides, I would love to hear this from you guys since you’ve actually lived it. That seems much better than anything that I could find out from what my crystals could gather. They can collect intel, but not personal experiences.”
Liara: “Of course, we’d be more than happy to.”
Jewel: “So, Commander Shepard, he’s your commanding officer, huh?”
Ashley: “That’s right. However, until he comes to, I’m in charge of the ship and its crew. It’s….the least I can do for him….”
Jewel sat silently as she showed concern for her.
The group remained quiet for a bit as they continued eating. Flare was stuffing her face continuously without hesitating for even a second. Then a little into the meal, the silence was broken.
Jewel: “So, tell us a little more about….what you were mentioning to us involving the turian Spectre. What happened during that mission?”
Ashley: “Oh, right, well, like I said before, I didn’t meet him until after they arrived on Eden Prime, so I didn’t know a lot of the details back then. Captain Anderson did fill me in on what was happening. Back then, the council sent a turian Spectre named Nihlus to observe Shepard as a candidate for Spectre. However, he didn’t last very long. When he was on Eden Prime, he met with another turian Spectre named Saren.”
Everyone seemed to have reacted to the name.
Jewel: “Saren? I take it he was…someone important.”
Ashley: “More than you can understand, well, if you’ve never heard of the name.”
Garrus: “Saren was a very well known Spectre, however, he was crooked, a rogue. He was…unhinged….”
Star: “Wow, he was a really big deal.”
Ashley: “Saren was Nihlus’ mentor. But….shortly after meeting with his old mentor, Saren pointed a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.”
Jewel: “Oh, no!”
Star: “Um….what does that mean?”
Jewel: “It means that Nihlus was killed by his own mentor.”
Star: “Oh! So…..shooting someone in the head kills people?”
Miranda: “I guess your race doesn’t die the same way.”
Star: “Not really. Let’s just say we’re much less easy to penetrate, unless you have a magical weapon that specializes in killing Fayelons. That stays with us.”
Miranda: “Of course, say no more.”
Aera: “So, Saren kills Nihlus, but what was Saren doing on Eden Prime in the first place?”
Ashley: “He was looking for an artifact. It was a beacon left behind by a race that disappeared years ago called the Protheans.”
Javik: “Ah, yes, they have found a piece of our tech; one of a handful of objects that have outlived my people.”
Ashley: “Saren then used the artifact to try and find a machine known as the Conduit.”
Star: “So….all this has to do with the Reapers because….”
Jewel: “It was a way for him to bring forth the Reapers that are to invade this realm sometime in the present day. Isn’t that right?”
Ashley: “Yes, that’s exactly right.”
Garrus: “It was a difficult battle to prevent the Reapers from doing to us what they did to the Protheans as well as many other species.”
Jewel: “Hmmm……”
Star: “Wow, that is a lot to take in.”
Miranda: “And those were mere bits and pieces of what we had to deal with.”
Jewel: “Of course. You don’t need to tell us more now. We can save that for some other time and my Intel Crystal has yet to collect all the intel we can about this.”
Miranda: “Of course. Given time, we’ll be able to fill you in on everything.”
Jewel was staring at her Crystal with a curious look on her face.
Jewel: “Hmmmm…..I wonder…..”
Later on, everyone finished eating and were on their way to another part of the ship.
Star: “Thank you for the meal, everyone. That was so good!”
Miranda: “Glad you girls liked it.”
Aera: “We’re just glad that Flare didn’t eat all of it.”
Flare smiled at them in a nervous manner.
Miranda: “You girls have some….interesting quirks.”
Star: “That’s not even the half of it. Jewel, over here, has a tendency to….well…if she sneezes hard enough, a lot of her jewels can spill out of her body.”
Jewel: “Yes, I…I’ve been trying to manage that better.”
Garrus: “You carry jewels in your body?”
Jewel: “No, not exactly, there have been many that I have solidified and then absorbed back into my body. They take on the form of energy when stored in my body but I’m able to memorize each shape, size and function based off of sensory that we Gemma Kinetics are trained to utilize.”
Garrus: “Wow, that sounds like a lot.”
Jewel: “Our powers are the most complex in our realm. We are able to do so many amazing things but we have spent many years figuring out how to control them. We’ve spent a lot of time just learning the basics.”
She then formed another jewel in her hand.
Jewel: “It is fortunate that I am a really fast learner. Creating Intel Crystals is one of the more complex techniques. I have been practicing it for a very long time.”
Miranda: “Seems as though we have a lot to exchange with each other between our 2 completely different worlds. We both clearly have so much to learn.”
Tali: “Yes, we do.”
Jewel: “I’ll gladly provide some Intel Crystals about our realm. It….it’ll take a lot of time to process all of it. I wish there was some way we could do that.”
Liara: “Perhaps you could upload a lot of it onto our computers, well, assuming you’re able to figure out how to upload intel from your crystals.”
Jewel: “I’m sure we’ll find a way. Anything’s possible if you put your mind to it.”
Miranda: “Good thing we’ve asked for the kind of specialist to bring in to help us out with that. Who better to figure out a lot of this complex data than him…..?”
Everyone stood despondent for a bit. The girls took notice of this.
Splash: “So….when do we get to meet him? Is he here yet?”
Everyone was still silent for a bit.
EDI: “Lt. Commander Williams.”
Ashley: “Yes, EDI?”
EDI: “I just want to inform you that the specialist we’ve asked for regarding the Fayelons has arrived on the ship. He wishes to meet with all of you in the conference room.”
Everyone seemed somewhat startled but remained silent.
Ashley: “Thanks for letting us know. OK, girls. Let’s go meet with the doctor.”
Star: “Right behind you, Ashley!”
The girls trailed after Ashley. Jewel, however, stopped and turned back towards the rest of the crew who still seemed despondent.
Jewel: “You…guys OK?”
They lifted their heads back up and brushed off a little of their melancholy demeanor.
Liara: “We’re….fine. Let’s….go.”
The rest of them followed after.

Episode 5-Mordin

Soon enough, they arrived back in the conference room. There, they caught sight of Dr. Mordin Solus standing before them, waiting for them. The crew remained silent, almost as though they were startled and sad at the same time. Ashley stepped up along with Miranda. The girls followed after them. Both women stood on the side of Dr. Solus as the girls stood in front of him.

Miranda: “Girls, this is Professor Mordin Solus. He is the specialist asked to look into your magical prowess and physiology.”
Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera, Splash: “Hi.”
Miranda: “Dr. Solus, these are the girls that we have mentioned to you about. This is Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera and Splash.”
Mordin: “So, you must be the girls that I’ve heard are magical. Good to meet you.”
The crew members standing behind the girls remained silent as they looked at Mordin with the same despondent looks on their faces.
Mordin: “Heard much about you girls. Been told that you have magical powers. Amazing abilities. (sniff) Been looking forward to this.”
Splash: “Same here. We were told that you were to one who would figure out a lot about our abilities better than anyone. Well, whatever help you can provide, we would be willing to accept.”
Aera: “Just make sure you don’t stuff us in some lab and perform horrendous tests on us. We don’t tolerate cruelty of any kind.”
Mordin: “Wouldn’t dream of it. Can’t get sufficient data from cruel experiments. Besides, more fun to observe your powers and abilities. Also, heard that they have transformation powers, also looking forward to seeing that. Be like watching a live action magical girl anime.
Garrus: “Wait, hold on. You’ve also watched magical girl shows?”
Mordin: “Just a few. Watched several episodes of very popular, long-running Earth show with young niece known as Pretty Cures. Anime transformations truly a spectacle.”
Tali: “You’ve seen Pretty Cure? That’s one of my favorite anime!!! I’ve always loved watching all those transformation sequences!!”
Mordin: “Ah, yes, really looking forward to watching those shows again. Perhaps help with looking into these girls and their powers.”
Garrus: “I don’t believe this.”
Miranda: “Sounds like the doctor is already invested in this, just like I thought he would.”
Ashley: “I know, I just…can’t believe that he’s watched magical girl shows before.”
Mordin: “But this line of work I know is more serious than kids shows. Very serious events have occurred. Bloodshed, rogue vigilante, mass-murders. (sniff) Anyone familiar with Madoka Magica?”
Ashley: “Oh….that anime? Yeah, I know about that.”
Miranda: “That’s the one with the most disturbing plot-twist in a magical girl show. How could I possibly forget about that?”
Ashley: “Or any show with kids as main characters for that matter.”
Liara: “Oh…I know about that. You must be thinking about Episode 3.”
Miranda: “So, you’ve also watched that show, Liara?”
Liara: “Yes….I….when I first watched that episode, I….I couldn’t believe what I had just saw.”
Tali: “A lot of us felt that way.”
Garrus: “Episode 3? What….exactly happened in that episode?”
Tali: “Um….well…you see, there’s this one part where…..oh….you just have to see it for yourself.”
Garrus: “Are you sure you’re not going to throw me into something that would utterly traumatize me?”
Tali: “Oh, Keelah! You’re a former C-Sec cop! I’m sure you’ve seen worse things than what happened in episode 3 of Madoka Magica!”
Garrus: “Well….yes…I’ve seen some horrible things in which even some cartoon could barely even compare to, much less a girlish anime.”
Mordin: “Then it is settled. Shall you watch many of these magical girl anime shows with us, Garrus?”
Garrus: “Hang on a minute, who said anything about me agreeing to watching your shows?”
Tali: “Weren’t we talking about you watching Madoka Magica just now?”
Garrus: “I didn’t actually say that I would agree to it!”
Ashley: “We’ll talk more about that some other time.”
Miranda: “Right now, our main focus is on the real live magical girls.”
Mordin: “Ah, yes, of course. Now then, if I’m not mistaken, these magical girls, they are from another galaxy as I have heard.”
Jewel: “Well, yes, from what we can tell, we are from another galaxy. Though, it’s always been known to us as a realm.”
Star: “It’s basically like another word for galaxy to us.”
Mordin: “Interesting. Looking forward to hearing more about it. Must have many stories to tell about your “realm”. Would love to hear stories about your magical powers and all other magical beings.”
Jewel: “We would be happy to share all kinds of stories with you as well as everyone else here.”
Mordin: “Wonderful! Would be the closest I come to hearing about real live fairy-tales, though not exactly like fantasy stories.”
Jewel: “Uh…..yeah…I guess….I wouldn’t know anything about that.”
Miranda: “I’m sure Dr. Solus will fill you in on a lot of that.”
Mordin: “But of course. Exchange of stories vital to understanding these magical girls. Must evaluate what is confirmed real and what remains fiction. More to our worlds than what is dreamt up. Even fiction can present us with valuable insight.”
Jewel: “Sounds like a plan?”
Miranda: “Well, I’m sure you’ll be able to work on all of the details with the doctor. You might also want to present him with some of your Intel Crystals, Jewel.”
Jewel: “Oh, of course. I can do that. Perhaps he would be able to figure out how to analyze any intel that have been inserted into them.”
Mordin: “Excellent. Heard much about you. Was told that you specifically have special powers regarding jewelry. Looking forward to seeing it. Looking forward to seeing all of your powers.”
Flare: “I’m sure that we’ll be able to help each other out immensely.”
Mordin: “Indeed, need to set up for research. Find a good place on the Normandy to carry out the research. (sniff) Truly exciting.”
Jewel: “Um…..sure…”
Mordin: “Will be at the medical bay. Come see me if you need me for anything.”
Mordin walked out of the room while everyone stood by speechless. The girls seemed perplexed by the exchange that they had with Mordin. However, Star’s mood quickly changed as she placed her hands on her hips and smiled.
Star: “I like him!”
Aera looked at her with a somewhat irritated look on her face.
Aera: “You’re such a weirdo, Star.”
Jewel looked back at the Normandy crew. She noticed the saddened looks that they had on their faces again. She seemed concerned for them.
Jewel: “Can you….can you tell us about…how it was that he…could have died?”
They remained silent for a bit more as they exchanged looks with each other. A few of them held their heads down.
Liara: “A while back….during the Reaper invasion, we took on an assignment on the krogan home-world, Tuchanka. Mordin was working on a way to cure a bio-weapon known as the genophage.”
Aera: “The….genophage? What’s that?”
Liara: “It was a bio-weapon created by salarian scientists long ago during an event known as the Krogan Rebellion. It was to prevent the krogans from having any viable pregnancies by inducing a genetic mutation on the entire species. It had drastically decreased their population.”
Garrus: “The bio-weapon was released into the atmosphere of Tuchanka by the turians. For 1000 years, the krogan have suffered from a massive decrease in viable births as well as their population. It nearly drove them to extinction.”
Aera: “That’s terrible…”
Splash: “But why would the salarians and turians do that!?!”
Liara: “They worried about the krogan population increasing at a devastating rate, eventually overrunning the entire galaxy. However, this had devastating consequences that no one ever considered.”
Garrus: “Although a good number of salarians and turians were very hesitant about unleashing this bio-weapon and some of them thought that the choice would be too cruel.”
Flare: “Can’t say I really blame them. I mean I know that the krogan can be fierce and are most likely feared by many people, but to cause such devastation was not a solution that I would consider. There had to be another way to help deal with the problem should it ever arise.”
Wrex: “Hah! I’m liking this girl more and more. She’s got that fire in her soul.”
Star: “I know, right? Matches her fire powers.”
Garrus: “You can say that again, Star.”
Javik: “Eh, this Flare seems much too tame for one who wields pyrokinetic powers. I prefer Star, she has a real spunk. And Splash has a way of becoming ferocious over the mentioning of fish food.”
Aera: “Whoa, careful there, Prothean, her temper might be a little too much, especially for someone like you.”
Javik: “I beg to differ. Now then, I just need to find a way to make all of our foes carry around dead fish just enough to set off the ferocious aquakinetic.”
Jewel: “I wouldn’t consider it, guy.”
Star: “Ahem, back to the subject that we were talking about?”
Aera: “Right, let’s get on that before lizard-boy over here sets off Splash and nearly gets himself killed.”
Star: “So, what does this genophage have to do with Mordin supposedly dying?”
Liara: “Well, during the mission, we came across one of the towers that were built by the salarians. It was used to disperse the genophage. Mordin intended on using it to disperse the cure for it instead, but then…”
James: “A Reaper attacked it. Things went horribly wrong. Because of that….”
Tali: “The tower was about to be destroyed and there was no way to disperse the cure remotely, so he decided to enter the tower and knowing that there was no way to survive, he sacrificed himself. It was not possible for him to survive.”
Jewel: “Oh, I see.”
Garrus: “We couldn’t figure out how it is that he’s still alive, but….given that there have been a number of miracle survivals from thousands that were beyond saving and after we have met you girls, it may be that the cause of these miraculous survivals could have been by magic. There’s just no other way for us to fathom it. Hm…and now that I think about it, I guess it truly is the only possible explanation.”
Aera: “Well….I guess we see your point. But….we wouldn’t know how it’s possible, either. Even a lot of us aren’t capable of anything like this.”
Liara: “Well, I’m sure that you wouldn’t know either, but perhaps we could figure it out together.”
Splash: “Of course!! We would be more than happy to help you out with that!!!”
Liara: “Thank you…”
The crew smiled at the girls as they smiled back at them. Just then, Flare began to notice something as she turned towards a corner of the room. From there, her sensing powers kicked in again. She could sense the mysterious entity within the corner looking towards the door that Mordin had walked out of. From there, she could sense that it was smiling while tears poured out of its eye. She continued staring at that corner for a little while.
Ashley: “Are you OK, Flare?”
She was startled by Ashley speaking to her, she then looked back towards everyone.
Flare: “Huh?”
Miranda: “You seemed to be staring at absolutely nothing for some reason. Did you see something?”
Flare dropped her head a little and shook it.
Flare: “No….I don’t see anything there…”
The Normandy crew stood by stunned and confused.
Star: “You could sense something, couldn’t you?”
Flare: “Um…..yes….actually…”
She looked back towards the corner and stared at it again.
Flare: “There is a strange being. I can’t see it, but I can sense that it is here with us. My sensing is so strong that I am able to picture exactly what it looks like and what it’s doing. Even what it’s feeling right now.”
Star: “Let me guess, light silhouetted, eyes, lips, seemingly sad about something?”
Flare looked back at Star.
Flare: “Yes, it’s that same entity.”
Splash: “What!?! It tracked us here, too!?!”
Miranda: “You’re being followed by another being?”
Star: “Actually, we’re not really sure. It seems that we’re able to find it wherever we go. But…it’s always seems to know where we are for some reason. We don’t know how, but….”
Jewel: “We don’t think that it’s necessarily following us from realm to realm. It’s just…there. We have no idea what it is.”
Liara: “Perhaps we can help you figure that out as well.”
Star: “I don’t know, this may be far too complicated for any of you to understand, not that we think you’re dumb or anything like that, it’s just….”
Jewel: “There may be some things far too complex for any of us to truly fathom.”
Ashley: “Maybe, but I don’t think it’ll hurt to try.”
Aera: “Well….if you insist, but don’t act surprised if something like this causes you guys massive headaches from just trying to wrap your heads around this.”
Tali: “We’ll try not to think too hard about it.”
Star: “Well, that Mordin guy seems like he would be able to understand anything that’s strange without any problems at all.”
Aera: “Yeah, considering that he is another kind of strange.”
Star: “And that’s what I find intriguing about him. I would love to help him out with whatever he needs.”
Aera: “Oh, Star, you’re the only girl we know who would happily dive head first into the weird.”
Jewel smiled as she looked at her friends.
Later on, Mordin was in the medical bay working on something. Shortly afterwards, Star stepped in.
Star: “Hello again, Dr. Solus.”
Mordin stopped what he was doing and turned his head towards her.
Mordin: “Ah, you must be….Star, correct?”
Star: “That’s right! Just stopping by to see if there’s anything you’ll need. If so, I would be more than happy to provide them for you.”
Mordin: “Ah, yes, would greatly appreciate that. Plenty that I need, lots of things that I would like to have.”
Star: “Of course. You know, I was thinking, someone like you would need a lab, right?”
Mordin: “Hm? And what makes you say that?”
Star: “Well, I was thinking that maybe guys like you would need something like a lab where you could do research and look into any data and a bunch of other stuff. You would like that, wouldn’t you, guy?”
Mordin stood by and thought for a moment.
Mordin: “Yes, would like that, did have one on board this ship, however, this ship went through some refurbishing. That lab is no longer there.”
Star: “Hm, you don’t say? Where was that lab anyway?”
Mordin: “You know that one room where you and your friends first met with me? It was there.”
Star: “What!?! That used to have been your lab!?! I can’t believe it!! How could they do that!?! That was YOUR personal space!!!”
Mordin: “No need to distress. Wasn’t exactly mine, just using it. Refurbished after ship was handed over to the Alliance.”
Star: “Well, I think you should take back that room and make it into your lab again!!! I’ll do whatever I can to help, of course.”
Mordin: “Appreciate the sentiment, but not necessary. Don’t need to take that back.”
Just then, they noticed Ashley walk into the room.
Ashley: “Actually, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all.”
Star: “Oh! Ashley!”
Mordin: “Hello again, Lt. Commander.”
Ashley: “I think Star really does have a good point. We would be happy to give that room back to you and make it your lab like it use to have been.”
Mordin: “Don’t need that room. It’s a conference room, rest of the crew need that more than I do.”
Ashley: “It’s fine, really. We could use the other room after that one as a conference room.”
Mordin: “You mean the war room?”
Ashley: “Of course. We were using that during the war against the Reapers, but since we’ve defeated them, we don’t need to use it for that function. We can reconfigure it no problem.”
Mordin: “You certain about this?”
Ashley: “Yes, don’t worry about it. We can still use that as a conference room if you find out anything about the girls and their powers.”
Mordin: “Hm….perhaps….that can work out….yes….like that idea. Will work with that. Thank you.”
Ashley: “Don’t mention it. Now then, the rest of us were discussing the girls practice their powers within the cargo hold. We should meet with them there.”
Star: “Sure, let’s go.”
Star and Mordin left the medical bay with Ashley.
Soon enough, they reunited with the others within the cargo hold.
Garrus: “Oh, good, you guys made it.”
Star: “Just going over a few things.”
Liara: “Now then, shall we get started?”
Star: “Of course.”
Star went over towards her friends and stood beside her.
Mordin: “Looking forward to this. Need to see these girls’ transformation abilities.”
Tali: “Absolutely! It truly is like watching a live-action anime series.”
Star: “Alright, girls, I say we should give Dr. Solus a show he’ll never forget!!”
Jewel: “Couldn’t have said it better. You ready, girls?”
Flare, Star, Aera, Splash: “Ready!”
Jewel: “OK, let’s do it! Here we go!”
The girls stood by and readied themselves.
Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera, Splash: “Metamorphose!!”
From there, the girls transformed right before the crew. It was brief but spectacular. They stood by and watched in amazement. After the transformations were complete, the crew still stood by amazed.
Mordin: “Incredible…!!! Very much like a magical girl anime.”
Tali: “What did I tell you?”
Liara: “Yes, indeed.”
Garrus: “You guys would know that better than me.”
Mordin: “Should watch magical girl anime with us, Garrus. Transformation sequences incredible to watch. No shortage of spectacular elements.”
Garrus: “I’ll….think about it….”
Mordin: “At moment, need to observe the real-live magical girls, see what they’re capable of.”
Jewel: “No problem. We’ll show you everything that we can do. Let’s start with the basics.”
Jewel held out her hands and conjured up a massive gem. Everyone else watched as this unfolds. Mordin seemed amazed by this.
Mordin: “Fascinating…! Can forge jewels from thin air.”
Jewel: “Actually, I’m able to create these from the magical energy within my body.”
Mordin: “Magical energy? Within your body?”
Star: “That’s right, we Fayelons contain magic within our bodies naturally. We’re able to cast many kinds of magical spells and such.”
Aera: “Each of us are capable of different elemental powers.”
Splash: “Jewel over here is a special kind of Fayelon that can use a very special kind of magical power.”
Jewel nodded once.
Jewel: “Beings that specialize in my kind of power are known as Gemma Kinetics. It’s a very complex form of magic, so it is difficult to master. Even trying to learn the basics is a challenge all by itself.”
Mordin: “Fascinating. Assume your kind, the Gemma Kinetics as you call it, have found ways to master this kind of magical power.”
Flare: “Yes, they’re the only ones who were able to figure out how to use that kind of power. After they were able to learn the basics, they can use the jewels that they create to do all kinds of things.”
Jewel: “Yes, this kind of power is indeed very unique.”
Splash: “Jewel is able to do so many wonderful things with the gems that she has created. We can relive wonderful memories very vividly.”
Thane: “Hm, that sounds a lot like what my kind is able to do.”
Star: “You can recall vivid memories?”
Thane: “Yes, we are able to recall every single memory that we have, sometimes at will, other times….they can be triggered out of nowhere.”
Star: “Hm, sounds interesting.”
Splash: “Every memory? Including unpleasant ones?”
Thane: “Unfortunately, you would be correct about that, Splash.”
Splash: “Well, that’s one major difference between that and Jewel’s memory crystals. We don’t need to recall bad memories if we don’t want to.”
Jewel: “That’s right. We can store whatever memory we want in any vacant crystal that I conjure up and give out. What my friends do with them is their choice.”
Splash: “We couldn’t have asked for anything better than that.”
Aera: “Yeah…..of course….”
Mordin was seen using his Omni-tool to scan the girls, then checked the results.
Mordin: “Incredible!!”
Ashley: “Have you found out anything interesting about the girls, Doctor?”
Mordin: “Can detect unusual energy readings within each of the girls. Not known in any data source.”
Tali: “That’s probably the magical energy that they say is stored within them.”
Mordin: “Yes, yes, these girls can also produce this magical energy naturally. Never seen anything like it. (Sniff) Will look into this.”
Star: “So, then, shall we continue with this magical demonstration?”
Mordin: “Yes, please do, there’s a lot to learn. Willing to find out as much as I can. Would like to help out however I can.”
Star: “Glad to hear it. We have so much that we want to show you.”
Flare: “Each of us have unique powers. We each wield different kinds of powers. Much like how Jewel is a Gemma Kinetic, she is capable of wielding other kinds of stone-based magic.”
Jewel nodded once.
Jewel: “I can conjure up other kinds of rocks, not just jewels.”
Garrus: “A Geomancer then? Interesting, we should have known.”
Jewel: “That’s right, but I prefer to materialize jewels; they have lots more magical potential while rocks are well….bland. Not much to do with those.”
Garrus: “I see…”
Flare: “As you can tell, I’m a Pyromancer.”
Miranda: “I’ve expected Pyromancers to be more….spontaneous, but you seem very composed.”
Flare: “Where I come from, we take on a special kind of training that encourages us to exercise discipline and self-control. We would train our minds and bodies daily and regularly. It is essential to our culture and ensure that we do not lose control our powers as well as maintain control over ourselves. Our fire powers can be incredibly dangerous so we ensure that we can handle them carefully.”
Star: “Yeah, her culture has a very strict system regarding all of that. Meditation, physical training, breathing exercises, all that stuff. And they never skimp over the details.”
Jewel: “It was what made her so calm and disciplined, after all.”
Miranda: “Well, it does make sense. Fire can be very dangerous.”
Flare: “Indeed.”
Star then raised her hand.
Star: “My turn!”
Garrus: “Your powers consist of….light magic, I presume.”
Star: “That’s right!! A very special kind of magic. Not as unique as a Gemma Kinetic, but still plenty special.”
Mordin: “Light magic known to be a lethal enemy of Dark magic. Both of polar opposites and sworn enemies.”
Aera: “Yeah, that’s a given.”
Garrus: “And yet your magic is not strong enough to obliterate the Dark entity that your evil vigilante has absolute control over.”
Star: “No, it isn’t, not even close. It’s far too massive. Besides, Light magic alone won’t be able to stand a formidable chance against it.”
Flare: “It would take all of our powers brought together to come remotely close to truly bring it down, but…”
Jewel: “We’re still not powerful enough. We need to strengthen our magic if we hope to defeat them.”
Miranda: “We’ll do everything we can to help you.”
Ashley: “First we need to learn all we can about your magical powers.”
Mordin: “Yes, will do what I can, lots to learn about these powers, you and us especially.”
Jewel: “Of course.”
Star: “Oh, I can’t wait to show you what I have in store.”
Mordin: “Of course, I, too, am excited. Fascinating to learn that magic is real.”
Tali: “And that’s just the beginning.”
Aera: “Now, you guys already know of myself and Splash’s special powers.”
Liara: “Of course, Aera, you are an Aeromancer and Splash is an Aquamancer.”
Aera: “Correct.”
Garrus: “Of course, Splash’s water powers tie in very well with her love of fish, minus eating them, of course.”
James: “I feel bad for anyone who learns that the hard way.”
Aera: “Same here.”
Traynor: “At least her friends were able to calm her down before she really caused a horrible epidemic.”
Star: “Of course, we almost always pull her out of her rage before anyone or anything gets wrecked.”
Garrus: “Almost always? That did not sound good at all.”
Aera: “Well, this wasn’t the worst of her…fishy tantrums.”
Star: “Yeah, last time, she nearly mangled someone. That was not pretty.”
Miranda: “Let’s make sure nothing like that ever happens to any of us within this galaxy.”
Star: “Now then, shall we get on with showing off some of our powers?”
Mordin: “Yes, of course, also hear that you girls have wings, fairy wings.”
Star: “Oh, yeah….those.”
Jewel: “Ummmm…..well….”
Aera: “That was more so a course. We…um…we haven’t completely mastered them…yet…”
Garrus: “What do you mean? We saw all 5 of you with those fairy wings.”
Tali: “They were….spectacular. We actually thought you were fairies because of those.”
Splash: “Perhaps we are, but we’ve never heard of that word before.”
Aera: “Maybe it is another word for Fayelon. Who knows?”
Jewel: “Yeah…well….the problem is we’re only able to materialize those from…certain conditions: we have to be in midair.”
Garrus: “Midair?”
Jewel: “Yes, much like the first time you guys saw us with them out.”
Garrus: “How high up do you need to be?”
Flare: “A good distance. We can’t just simply jump up and sprout them.”
Liara: “So how will you be able to do that?”
Aera: “Not to worry, I can already handle something like that.”
From there, Aera conjured up 5 small cyclones near herself and each of her friends. They all jumped into them and were launched into the air. With that, they each materialized their wings. Everyone who watched this were mesmerized by this.
Mordin: “Incredible!!”
Garrus: “So that’s what the materialization process of those wings looks like.”
The girls descended a little and remained a little above the crew as they hovered in front of them.
Jewel: “This is a more advanced kind of power. It may not seem much but we have to use a good chunk of our magic just to have these out.”
Star: “We usually prefer to keep them retracted, but we will use them whenever we need to.”
Ashley: “So, how come you girls consider your wings to be an…advanced kind of your magical powers?”
Jewel: “We had to take a special course just to learn how to form them.”
Star: “We had to come up with the designs and everything. Lots of us are pretty good artists, but it’s still a challenge all on its own.”
Flare: “Afterwards, we needed to learn how to rematerialize them again and again so that we can summon them whenever we need to.”
Mordin had been scanning them as they continue to hover nearby.
Liara: “But why do you girls need to be in the air in order to materialize them?”
Jewel: “The course we took for these wings consist of multiple levels. It’s a very difficult method to master. We didn’t complete the entire course.”
Aera: “We’ve spent a lot of time just trying to figure out how to materialize our wing designs after we created them. That was a multi-step process. There’s a whole other course of learning how to materialize them while our feet are on the ground. But….”
Splash: “We didn’t take that course.”
Liara: “How come?”
Aera: “It’s part of the final sol cycle of our courses. We were going to take our final courses, but then….”
The girls paused as they hung their heads and sulked.
Liara: “The vigilante.”
Jewel: “Yes….around the start of our final sol cycle….was when we received the news….not long afterwards…”
Liara: “You found out about the keys and….you had to flee…”
Jewel: “Exactly….”
They continued to sulk.
Mordin: “Wish to know more about these keys…and the door that they unlock…heard only a little about it. Heard something special is kept behind it…”
Jewel: “Yes, that much we know….”
Star: “We really don’t know what’s behind that door. It could be some ultimate power source of the Universe. Who really knows for sure?”
Jewel: “But one thing we do know: we can’t let that vigilante get his grubby, blood-drenched hands on it otherwise….the consequences could be very devastating….to say the least.”
Ashley: “We understand.”
Mordin: “Now then, shall we get started on the spectacular display of your magical powers?”
Star: “Yes, of course! No more delays and interruptions!! Let’s get this spectacle show started!!!”
Aera: “I expected nothing less from you, Star!”
From there, the girls continued to remain in the air as they displayed their powers. This went on for several hours and the girls seemed as though they were having a lot of fun. The crew enjoyed watching them. They seemed mesmerized by their powers but they seemed even more ecstatic to see the girls smile. Garrus was especially content with how happy they seemed. Mordin continued to scan the girls as they displayed their powers. Throughout those several hours, everyone was indeed very happy.

Episode 6-Unforseeable

After much time, the girls finished up and reverted to their regular forms. They had a chance to chat with the others for a bit, expressing how much they enjoyed displaying their powers the way they have. Ashley then approached them and interrupted their conversations.

Ashley: “My apologies for interrupting you guys, but I’m going to need to bring the girls to the Quantum Entanglement Communications room. The Admiral wishes to speak with them.“
Liara: “Absolutely. We’ll leave you to get on that.”
Mordin: “Will look into the data collected from the girls in the meantime. Come find me after you’re done. Will be at the medical bay. (sniff) Much to look into.”
Mordin walked out.
Ashley: “Garrus, if you wouldn’t mind, I would like for you to join us during our conference with the admiral, considering that you’re actually the first one to have met the girls, he would like to hear about your personal experience with them.”
Garrus: “Well, OK. I don’t think there would be much that I could add; I know just as much as the rest of you.”
Jewel: “Even if you don’t have much to say to this admiral guy, we still want you to come anyway.”
Star: “Oh, for sure. You’re one of the few people that we actually like being around! We’ve really grown accustomed to you, as well as Dr. Solus, of course.”
Garrus: “Yeah…I know…”
Area: “Well, I’m not one to say I’m super crazy about having you around, but whatever my friends want is OK with me, I guess.”
Flare: “Well then, what are we waiting for? Let’s get going.”
Ashley: “Certainly.”
The girls walked off with Ashley and Garrus.
Splash: “So, what exactly does this admiral guy want from us?”
Ashley: “Obviously, he wishes to meet you.”
Jewel: “Well, yeah, that is a given.”
Ashley: “There was also something else that he wanted to tell you, but we wouldn’t mention to me what that was going to be.”
Jewel: “Only one way to find out.”
Ashley: “Sure.”
They arrived at the QEC. There, they stood before a closed off area by a few metal rails. They stood in silence for a brief moment.
Star: “So….where’s the admiral guy?”
Ashley: “He’ll be transmitting to us soon.”
Splash: “Transmitting? You mean he’s not actually here?”
Ashley: “Of course not.”
Soon enough, a holographic image of the admiral appeared before them. The girls were startled by this.
Star: “Whoa!! What is that!?!”
Ashley: “That’s a hologram.”
Aera: “Is this the admiral guy that you wanted us to meet? Is he a hologram?”
Ashley: “No, he’s just projecting an image to us.”
Star: “Oh! Cool!!”
Splash: “So, this is the admiral guy that you wanted us to meet?”
Ashley: “That’s right, this is Admiral Steven Hackett. Admiral, these are the girls that we have talked about. This is Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera and Splash.”
Jewel: “Um…..hello.”
Hackett: “So, you must be the girls that I have been hearing about, the magical girls, if I presume. It’s good to meet you.”
Jewel: “Yeah…..OK….”
Star: “Say, Mr. Admiral guy, where are you, exactly? And why are you projecting an image of yourself to us?”
Hackett: “This is just a common standard of how we communicate with one another, young lady. I am somewhere else and can’t be in the exact location where you are.”
Flare: “Uh….sure…”
Hackett: “I have been receiving some unusual intel from LT. Commander Williams. Apparently, there have been reports of some mysterious girls with unusual magical abilities. I never thought such a thing would actually be real.”
Garrus: “Neither did I. I was surprised to have witnessed such a thing be real.”
Aera: “Hm, yeah, we were told that stuff like that can only be found in fiction. Few of the people mention something about shows and such about these kinds of things.”
Hackett: “Yes, well, there are a lot of things that I would like to discuss, but not here. I would like to meet you and the girls in person.”
Ashley: “Really?”
Hackett: “Yes. I feel that we will have a lot to talk about.”
Garrus: “Where would you like us to meet?”
Hackett: “Earth.”
Garrus: “Earth? Are you sure? Isn’t it still recovering from the Reaper attacks?”
Hackett: “A lot of repairs are still being done, especially London, but there are several places that have fully restored. I’ve already arranged to meet in one of those places.”
Garrus: “Hm, I expected a lot of your cities to still be recovering. The planet did take a really bad hit.”
Hackett: “Yes it did, but it’s been an entire year since the Reaper attacks and a handful of settlements have managed to recover, as expected. Only the heavily populated areas took any seriously devastating assaults.”
Garrus: “Well, glad to hear that you humans are recovering. You are a resilient race, after all.”
Ashley: “That’s one way to put it.”
Hackett: “I’ll see you and the girls as well as the rest of the crew of the Normandy on Earth. Again, I believe we have a lot to talk about.”
Ashley: “We’ll see you there.”
The hologram deactivated.
Joker: “Uh, Lt. Commander, Cortez just arrived and he just dropped off Zaeed and Samara. They’re here to meet with the…uh…fairy girls?”
Ashley: “We’ll be right there. Let’s go, girls. We have a few friends that we would like to introduce you to.”
Jewel: “Um…OK.”
They walked out of the QEC.
Garrus: “I assume that they haven’t found Kasumi, yet?”
Ashley: “Of course not. You know how she is.”
Garrus: “Sure, if she wanted to see us, she would be able to find a way. Also, knowing her, she may have been picked up and we wouldn’t have known.”
Ashley: “That’s also true.”
A little afterwards, they reunited with the rest of the crew.
Liara: “So, how did the talk with the admiral go?”
Ashley: “We didn’t say much, he said he would like to speak with us in person. We’ll be making our way back to Earth right now to meet with him.”
Tali: “Earth? Is he sure about that?”
Ashley: “Yes, he is. As you may have guessed, it’s still recovering from the Reaper invasion.”
Jacob: “I expected nothing less considering what our home-world has been through.”
Ashley: “Yes…”
Star: “Say, where’s Dr. Solus?”
Liara: “He’s in the medical bay looking over the data of your….powers just like he said he would.”
Star: “Oh, yes! Of course! He did mention that. Guess I’ve…forgotten that.”
Garrus: “Sure you did.”
Jewel: “So, where are these other people that Joker mentioned had just arrived here?”
Voice: “Right here, lil’ lady.”
The girls turned their heads and looked towards Zaeed and Samara who just walked into the room. They just stared at them without knowing what to say.
Jewel: “Ummmmm…..hello.”
Miranda: “Girls, this is Zaeed and Samara. They were brought here after they were told about you so that they could meet you. Guys, this Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera and Splash.”
Samara: “It is a pleasure to meet you girls.”
Jewel: “Um…likewise?”
Zaeed: “So, you girls are the fairies that I’ve heard so much about.”
Ashley: “More or less. They actually call themselves Fayelons.”
Aera: “Not really sure if it is another word for fairies or the other-way around or whatever.”
Zaeed: “Is that so? Aw, well, it doesn’t matter. So, you girls have magical powers and whatnot like from them fairy-tale stories and the like, that pretty much says “fairies” to me.”
Jewel: “We honestly don’t know what you’re talking about, but we’re most likely very different from your “fairy-tales”, as you call it.”
Star: “Why does the concept of these “fairy-tales” keep popping up? Do we really remind you of that kind of stuff or something?”
Liara: “Well, there are a lot of similarities between the 2 of you, so yes, very.”
Flare: “Hmm…that’s understandable, I guess. Perhaps we can check them out as you guys have kept mentioning to us and really see if those comparisons are validated.”
Miranda: “I’m sure Mordin would be more than happy to arrange that for you.”
Star: “Well, whatever he needs, I would love to do anything I can to help him out with that.”
Garrus: “Of course you would.”
Zaeed: “So, I hear you fairy girls are a lot tougher than you look. I find that hard to believe.”
Star: “And why is that? Is it because we’re fairies?”
Zaeed: “Probably.”
Garrus: “Oh, I assure you that they’re very tough. They’re capable fighters.”
Zaeed: “You don’t say.”
Tali: “They’re more like a live-action, magical girl anime than a fairy-tale, actually. It was amazing to see them in action.”
Liara: “Yes, indeed.”
Samara: “So, they were that spectacular. I admit I have watched some of those old Earth shows that you call anime, so I could imagine that they are.”
Zaeed: “Are these magical girls all that’s cracked up to be?”
Tali: “You know it. I can’t stress enough how incredible they are; both the anime and these girls.”
Star: “We do the best we can, but please, continue telling us how great we are.”
Aera: “No surprise you enjoy constant praises from others.”
Star: “Hey, it’s been a rough ride. We should use whatever we can get to perk us back up!”
Aera: “Fair enough.”
Zaeed: “Bah! I still find all of that stuff hard to believe. A bunch of fairies capable of what you claim they are? You girls don’t look so tough.”
Jewel: “Oh, yeah, wise guy? Well, it’s apparent that you have no idea what we’ve been through. We’ve seen far too many horrible things that no one should ever have to endure!”
Liara: “From what you have told us, that would be a given.”
Jewel: “Also, we “fairies” have some incredible powers that you haven’t experienced, yet. We can really hold our own and then some.”
Zaeed: “Oh, really? Well then, care to demonstrate some of your unique powers, little girl?”
Jewel: “Certainly.”
She held out her hand and materialized another gem from her hand. Then she walked up to a nearby table and placed the gem on it.
Jewel: “Smash this gem. See if you can actually break it.”
Zaeed: “Heh, is that a challenge?”
A tiny smile appeared on her face.
Jewel: “Why, of course. If you think you talk a tough game, let’s see if you still think we aren’t as tough as we claim to be after this, but I sincerely doubt that you’ll get what you hoped for.”
Zaeed: “Fine by me. I’ve crushed krogan skulls tougher than diamonds. I think I can put a nice crack on your jewel and perhaps go all the way to obliterating it to dust.”
He walked up to the gem, he then slammed his fist on it. When he pulled it away, he was surprised to see that he was still in one piece, but not very.
Zaeed: “Heh, I didn’t think I would smash it that easily anyway.”
He then pulled out one of his guns and shot at it. Still, the gem remained in tact.
Zaeed: “OK, I’ve known some gems that don’t shatter easily from one simple gunshot.”
He then pulled out an even tougher weapon and shot at it, still not even a slight crack. From there, he became frustrated. He then took his gun and slammed on the gem over and over while everyone watched. Jewel, on the other-hand, had a self-assured look on her face that was a little bit annoyed. He stopped slamming on the gem and was greatly startled to see that the gem was still very much intact.
Zaeed: “What the hell?? What is this stupid piece of rock made of!?! How can you even break this thing!?!”
Jewel, finally done with Zaeed making a fool of himself walked up to the gem. She then proceeded to get ready to flick the gem. A confident and smug smile appeared on her face as she flicked it, causing it to crack a lot and then shatter into dust. Everyone who saw it was startled.
Zaeed: “What!?! I couldn’t even leave a dent on it and you just simply destroyed that thing with just one flick of the finger!?! Unbelievable!!!”
Jewel: “That’s because we Gemma Kinetics are capable of that kind of influence over our own jewels. We can make them as destructible or indestructible as we want. Also, we are the only one who can truly shatter our own jewels even if we make them indestructible.”
Liara: “Wow, impressive.”
Samara: “You indeed have a very unique power there, Jewel.”
Jewel: “Of course, we Gemma Kinetics are the most unique magical beings in the universe. There is still much that a lot don’t understand.”
Samara: “Sounds mysterious.”
Mordin: “Hm, most impressive.”
Soon enough, everyone noticed Mordin walk in.
Star: “Oh, hello again, Dr. Solus.”
Mordin: “These jewels, I take it, consist of a unique structure. Perhaps a sample to analyze it.”
Jewel: “Sure thing.”
She formed another jewel from her hand and gave it to Mordin.
Mordin: “Appreciate it, Jewel.”
Jewel: “No problem.”
Zaeed: “I can’t believe It!! I’ve been humiliated by a g****** fairy!!”
Jewel: “I didn’t intend to humiliate you, I just wanted to remind you to not underestimate us. We may seem like scrawny little girls, but we are a lot tougher than we look.”
Garrus: “No doubt they’re as diligent as Jewel’s unique jewelry.”
Samara: “I’ll say.”
Zaeed: “OK! OK! I get it! Don’t underestimate fairies! Got it! And here I thought you little girls were all about sunshine, rainbows and endless happiness.”
The girls seemed annoyed with what Zaeed just told them.
Aera: “And where did you get that idea?”
Star: “Don’t tell me. Fairy-tales?”
Everyone around them nodded.
Mordin: “Regardless. Seems to be more than what we comprehend. Will continue to look into this. Have much work to do.”
Aera: “Yeah, you do that. Something tells me we’re hardly the fairy-tales you like to compare us to over and over again.”
Tali: “That and magical girl shows.”
Liara: “Indeed.”
Garrus: “Hm….now I’m curious about these magical girl shows that you keep talking about…..maybe I should take you up on your offer to watch your….magical girl shows. Be it anime or….other things….maybe….”
Ashley: “We’ll worry about that some other time. Right now, we need to head back to Earth and meet with the Admiral to talk to him about these girls.”
Miranda: “Sounds good to me.”
Mordin: “Certainly, in the meantime, will examine magical jewel, understand their structure, their density, their magical readings. Much to do, very little time to do it. Also, must fill out a list of things needed, materials, equipment, maybe even storybooks and vids.”
Star: “That’s no problem. I’ll get you whatever you need.”
Mordin: “Greatly appreciated, Star.”
Star: “It’s my pleasure. Now then, how about I work on that list while you analyze that data.”
Mordin: “Sounds good.”
Mordin walked off with Star following after him. Everyone else watched.
Samara: “Hm, those 2 seem to be well acquainted with each other.”
Aera: “Yeah, well…he’s…just the kind of person she likes.”
Garrus: “I can see that.”
Liara: “I wonder what her story is.”
The rest of the girls sulked for a bit.
Jewel: “It hasn’t exactly been an easy road for her; I can’t say things are any different from us.”
Tali: “I would think so considering that you have been through a lot throughout your journey.”
Jewel: “Actually….it’s not just that…”
Flare: “To put it one way, this isn’t the first of our rough journeys. For as long as we can remember….we have taken long trials in order to find our true selves. Star’s journey of that aspect has been a lot more difficult than the rest of us.”
Everyone stood silent for a bit. The Normandy crew were concerned for the girls.
Liara: “Well….if you girls would like to talk about it, then…we will be more than happy to listen to what you have to say….”
They lifted their heads back up and smiled.
Jewel: “We would appreciate that very much. But…we’re not going to tell you everything…not now…you’ll need to be patient with us….we have a lot to talk about.”
Everyone stood by silent again. Miranda then walked up to Jewel, bent down a little and placed her hand on her shoulder.
Miranda: “Take all the time you need. We’ll wait as long as we can, but don’t hesitate to shed your burdens whenever you feel that you must.”
Jewel looked up at Miranda, she seemed quite touched.
A little time afterwards, Star and Mordin were at the medical bay. They were working on different things. Soon enough, Star’s friends stopped by as well as a few of the Normandy crew members.
Star: “Oh, hello, guys. What’s up?”
Samara: “We just wanted to see what you’re up to.”
Star: “I’m just working on that list that Dr. Solus wants for his research. He’s over there looking over the data of our magic.”
Ashley: “So, how’s the research going, Doc.?”
Mordin: “Incredible! Massive amounts of data. Magical energy immense. Will need that lab, after all.”
Star: “Don’t worry, Dr. Solus, we’ll see to it that you’ll have your lab back.”
Mordin: “Appreciate it very much, Star.”
Aera: “Of course, if there is anyone who will deliver such a promise to this guy, it would be Star.”
Garrus: “I really wonder what her story is. She doesn’t look like any girl who would go for anything and anyone so….unorthodox.”
Star stopped what she was doing and looked towards Garrus in an irritated manner.
Star: “What? You think I’m one of those ditsy, doting pretty girls who enjoy doing stupid, boring girl stuff? If you really think that, then clearly you have no idea who I am!!”
Garrus: “Whoa, calm down, Star, I didn’t say anything like that. I’m just surprised to see you have different interests, that’s all. I never meant anything offensive.”
Star: “Good! You better not!”
She went back to working on the list.
Garrus: “She’s…scary…perhaps a little more terrifying than Splash after even mentioning seafood.”
Splash let out a psychotic and terrifying glare towards Garrus.
Garrus: “Uh….yeah…these girls are beyond ordinary and not because they’re magical beings.”
Aera: “You catch on fast, Vakarian. It’s clear you’re no one’s idiot.”
Garrus: “Is that supposed to be a compliment or a sarcastic remark.”
Aera glanced at him without saying anything. Jewel walked up to Mordin.
Jewel: “So, Dr. Solus, can you tell us what you’ve found out about our magic, so far?”
Mordin: “Have found out plenty. Still need a lab to thoroughly analyze them, but can reveal some vital intel.”
Aera walked to him as well.
Aera: “Go ahead, Doc. We’re all ears.”
Mordin: “Each of your magical energy consist of different readings. No 2 energy signatures are alike. Each one unique, distinguishable, could identify them with different colors as a means of highlighting them.”
Star: “Great idea! I’m so all over that! We’ll definitely get on that!! As soon as your lab has been reclaimed, of course.”
Aera: “She’s already getting into it, as I thought.”
Garrus: “Yeah, no doubt those 2 are going to have one very interesting friendship.”
Aera: “We already knew that when we met him.”
Flare: “Hm, indeed.”
Tali: “I’m guessing Star would jump into the chance to become his assistant.”
Aera: “I would not doubt that one bit.”
Splash walked up to Star as she was working on the list.
Splash: “So, this is the list that Dr. Solus asked you to work on, huh?”
Star: “That’s right. I want to get him whatever he needs for his research. I’m happy to help him out.”
Splash: “Don’t push yourself too hard with this. I don’t want to have him working you too hard, OK?”
Star paused as she held her head down and sulk.
Star: “I’m willing to do whatever I can for my friends. All of you mean so much to me, so this is the least I can do. You know that better than anyone.”
Splash: “Of course we do.”
Flare walked up to her.
Flare: “We worry about you, it’s great you like to help out those you care about, but that doesn’t mean you have to push yourself too hard. I’m sure Dr. Solus would never allow that, but we’ll be here to snap him out of that encase he does.”
Star paused as she continued sulking.
Star: “Yes….of course…”
She went back to work as everyone else still watched. Jewel, having returned to standing with the few of the Normandy crew stood by and looked at Star. They seemed despondent.
Samara: “I wonder what sort of things she’s been through.”
Jewel dropped her head and sulked a little.
Jewel: “Well….to put it briefly and vaguely…she really didn’t have enough room to…be herself. Pretty much everything around her convinced her to be something she clearly wasn’t. We were the first in her life to allow that…”
Ashley: “What exactly do you mean by that, Jewel?”
Jewel: “Well…with what Garrus had just mentioned to her….she’s been through that…a lot. The only difference? He didn’t insist that she should be that way.”
Ashley: “She’s actually has lived through that?”
Jewel: “Yes…”
She lifted her head back up and stared out with a somewhat serious look on her face.
Jewel: “Knowing with what she has put up with, I feel that Dr. Solus would probably understand her better than anyone.”
Aera: “It really didn’t surprise us that she would be fascinated by him. Things that a lot of average girls would be into wore her down all too easily. Because of that, anything bizarre or orthodox would draw her attention. She most likely would never want to leave his side unless she has to.”
Samara: “She wouldn’t develop a crush on him, would she?”
Aera: “Hah! That’s adorable! Is that really the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind?”
Ashley: “Um….what do you mean by that?”
Aera: “Well…to put it lightly, that doesn’t sound like her at all. She hardly ever cared about stuff like that. None of us did.”
Samara: “I didn’t think so. From how she spoke, it would imply that she values her friends more than the desire to find that significant other.”
Garrus: “You girls really are abnormal, aren’t you?”
Tali: “If I didn’t know any better, I would have said that this was a Fayelon thing.”
Jewel: “Far from it, I’m afraid.”
She sulked again. The Normandy crew seemed concerned for her.
Tali: “By the way, Liara asked for you girls. She wants you to meet with her in her office.”
Jewel: “Oh, OK, where is it?”
Tali: “It’s in the next room, just across the main area from here.”
Jewel: “Sure, we can do that. Let’s go, girls.”
Jewel walked out, her friends followed. Star stopped to look back at the crew.
Star: “I’ll be back later, you guys.”
She proceeded to walk out of the medical bay with her friends. The crew remained within the room.
Garrus: “I don’t have a reason to disbelieve that.”

Episode 7-Glyph

A little afterwards, the girls arrived at Liara’s office.

Liara: “Oh, hello, girls. Glad you could make it.”
Jewel: “Hello again, Liara. Is there something you want from us?”
Liara: “Yes, of course. I would like to ask if you could provide me with any data regarding you and anything else involving you.”
Jewel: “Sure, we can do that, but what for?”
Liara: “So I can upload it into my databases. This way, it could have a safe place to be stored away.”
Jewel: “I guess that makes sense but….”
She had a chance to look around at everything within the office, including all of the hi-tech equipment.
Jewel: “What is all of this?”
Voice: “These are the technological machinery and monitors that are under the ownership of the Shadow Broker.”
Splash: “Huh? Who said that?”
Voice: “I did.”
Soon enough, the girls saw a holographic spherical AI approach them.
Jewel: “Oh…..hello, strange….talking….spherical….thing….”
Aera: “Um…..what is this thing?”
Liara: “Girls, this is Glyph. He is my assistant.”
Glyph: “You must be the Fayelons that the Shadow Broker spoke of. It is good to meet you.”
Jewel: “Likewise?”
Flare: “Um…mind telling us what exactly this machine is?”
Liara: “He is an AI. He’s my personal assistant.”
Glyph: “I help out the Shadow Broker with coordinating massive networks along with several other tasks. I have been very beneficial with maintaining the data streams and networks.”
Aera: “Huh, interesting.”
Star: “Um, excuse me for interrupting, but…what is the Shadow Broker?”
Glyph: “I am so glad you asked that question, miss. The Shadow Broker is a very powerful and seclusive information broker.”
Star: “Information broker?”
Glyph: “Yes, I’m sure you don’t know much about them, if at all, but information brokers are unique individuals who collect information on various things, namely things that many do not know about.”
Jewel: “And this “Shadow Broker” is the most powerful of them all?”
Glyph: “Correct. That is because the Shadow Broker has resources that aren’t available to anyone. Because of this, the Shadow Broker is able to find and snuff out information that is otherwise very difficult for others to obtain, therefore, they are extremely valued in the information broker industry.”
Aera: “I’m guessing that’s another way of saying “Information is power”.”
Liara: “You’d be right about, Aera. Information is one of the most valued types of resources in the galaxy. Some value it more than money, for others, information is a form of currency.”
Splash: “Currency? Money?”
Jewel brought out another of her jewels and looked into it. She signaled Splash to move closer to her. She then examined the jewel together.
Liara: “You…you girls never heard of money before?”
The girls exchanged looks with one another then looked back towards Liara.
Jewel: “Not…before arriving here…”
Liara: “I see….hmmmm….I’ll need to get into that some other time, but right now, there are some things that I would like from you. Let’s start with some information regarding your….realm and your powers.”
Jewel: “Yes….certainly.”
Jewel walked up to a console. She observed it for a bit.
Jewel: “This one?”
Glyph: “Yes, right here. Input all the data that you can if you please.”
Jewel: “OK…here I go.”
Jewel got to work on the monitor.
Liara: “And while that’s being taken care of, would one of you mind going over to Dr. Solus and see if you can retrieve the intel regarding his research?”
Star: “I’ll do it!”
Star rushed out of the office as fast as she could.
Aera: “And there she goes.”
At that time, a few of the Normandy crew members were still at the medical bay. This included Ashley, Tali, Garrus and Mordin. Samara remained with them, Miranda joined them shortly afterwards.
Miranda: “So, what are your impressions of the girls so far?”
Samara: “They are very interesting. I can’t say I’ve met girls just like them.”
Ashley: “Yeah, they most certainly have taken us by surprise in so many ways.”
Tali: “They are indeed less than typical. I never expected anything like that from such teenage girls.”
Miranda: “They’re nothing like typical teenage girls and I’m not talking about them having magical powers. They’re personalities have taken us by surprise.”
Garrus: “Oh, absolutely. I admit I was worried about that for a minute there. Teenage girls usually talk about shopping and boys, but not these girls.”
Ashley: “Not to mention the way that Star snapped at you over your thoughts of what she could have portrayed herself as based on how she looks. I didn’t see that coming at all.”
Garrus: “Yeah, I was taken aback by that.”
Tali: “From how she reacted when you told her that, it seems apparent that she has dealt with this many times before. Can’t say I really blame her for that.”
Garrus: “Me neither. To be honest, I’m thrilled that she’s nowhere near typical. All that stuff of average teenage garbage bores me to tears.”
Ashley: “Yeah, I feel the same way. My younger sisters went through that faze and as much as I love all of them to death, I could never get into all of that.”
Garrus: “Your sisters sounded a lot like average teenagers, Ash.”
Ashley: “Indeed.”
Samara: “It seems as though that Star has taken a liking to the doctor.”
Garrus: “Yeah, of course. Definitely far from average. I wonder what things have gone on in her life to push her into something like this.”
Miranda: “Perhaps we should ask her. I’m sure she would love to shed a lot of those burdens on us.”
Ashley: “I would be happy to lend an ear to that.”
At that moment, Star arrived back. She walked up to Mordin.
Star: “Hey, Dr. Solus.”
Mordin: “Ah, Star. What brings you back here?”
Star: “Liara asked me to retrieve some data on your research.”
Mordin: “Yes, of course. Already have it here. She requested this from me earlier.”
He pulled out a small device and handed it to her.
Star: “Thank you, I’ll take this with me back to Liara’s office.”
She made her way out of the room.
Miranda: “She’s such a chipper young girl.”
Garrus: “Yeah, she is…”
Ashley: “So, doc, your impressions on her or the other girls?”
Mordin: “Yes, Star, very sweet girl. Incredibly upbeat, but apparent that she hides so much pain behind her cheery smile.”
Samara: “It is almost as though she tries as hard as she can to remain cheery and positive despite the trials that she has suffered through.”
Garrus: “Yeah, I’ve noticed that, too. And not just her, the other girls seem to have that impression.”
Tali: “Yeah, their personalities don’t seem to match anything from those old Earth storybooks. I wonder what sort of things they’ve gone through.”
Miranda: “I’m not sure. There really is no telling what that could be. We hardly know much about their world or even anything that could tell us what could have caused their pain.”
Garrus: “They seem to scoff and sneer at us comparing them to fairy-tales, almost as though the comparisons emphasize how very little we know about them.”
Mordin: That much true. Their demeanor suggests as such. Will need to see their impressions on storybooks and such. (sniff) Could prove helpful in knowing about them.”
Garrus: “I think there’s one thing we can be certain of: their lives are nothing like a fairy-tale.”
Ashley: “So, we’re all in agreement on holding off on the comparisons until we truly learn the differences between them?”
Miranda: “Of course.”
Tali: “Certainly.”
Garrus: “Heh, I have no problem with that. I was getting tired of mentioning a lot of that stuff anyway.”
Tali: “Well, I can say that they’re very much like those magical girl shows. They’re somewhat like fantasy but not completely like fairy-tales.”
Garrus: “Are magical girl shows really that different from those typical fantasy stories?”
Tali: “They can be. You should check them out with us when we have the chance.”
Mordin: “Yes, those shows incredible to watch. Very spectacle, action-packed. You might like them, Garrus.”
Garrus: “I’ll…be the judge of that. And no, this doesn’t mean I’ve decided on it, yet!”
Tali: “Oh, come on, must you be so difficult?”
Miranda: “Well, I suppose we could start out with something much more up your alley, at least…as close to it as we could possibly get.”
Ashley: “You mean something like Madoka Magica?”
Tali: “Oh, that would indeed be something good to start with, especially when we get to episode 3.”
Garrus: “Hmmmm….you guys have mentioned this episode 3, something about some sort of disturbing plot-twist or whatever?”
Tali: “Oh, yes, it’s indeed very infamous for that one plot-twist. You should check that out. No need to lose your head over it, though.”
Tali started giggling as did Ashley and Miranda.
Garrus: “Why do I feel as though I’m about to be lured into some devious trap?”
Mordin: “The losing head comment, more relevant than you may think. Will need to see for yourself to find out why that is.”
Garrus had a concerned look on his face.
Back in Liara’s office, Jewel was working on a monitor. Glyph went over to see what she was working on.
Glyph: “Hmmmm……interesting.”
Jewel: “Find something that peaked your interest, Glyph?”
Glyph: “I can see here that you are working on a unique kind of power referred to a specialty by a unique group of magic users known as the Gemma Kinetics.”
Jewel: “Oh, yeah, that, it’s a special kind of magical power that my kind is able to utilize. It’s an advanced power and only those from the same world as me have learned how to master it without any conflicts.”
Glyph: “I see. It says here that your kind’s able to forge magical jewelry can utilize unique functions.”
Jewel: “Correct, it is why this technique is so advanced and complicated to master, but our ancestors have learned the secrets to mastering them effortlessly. No one else outside of our world could, not even my friends.”
Star: “It’s true, we can’t.”
Flare: “The power, itself, can be very difficult to clarify, so understanding it is a difficult trial in of itself.”
Splash: “We just brush it off as something that’s more of a “Gemma Kinetic thing”.”
Jewel: “Right, it’s not anything that can be explained; it’s more of a sort of sixth sense that we develop naturally, much like the magical energy that we generate within our bodies.”
Liara: “Hm, that all sounds very interesting. I don’t think I would need to understand how your powers work, Jewel, but I trust that you can in some way.”
Jewel: “Uh, yeah, I guess you can say that.”
Glyph: “So, what kind of special functions can your jewels carry out?”
Jewel: “Well, as you can see, we are able to upload our memories into them and store them.”
Glyph: “Oh, that is fascinating. So, they can be used as storage containers for your memories and such?”
Jewel: “Yep and they can upload those memories into our minds with just a simple touch. Anyone who lays their hands on these crystals can vividly see these memories almost as though they are watching them play out right in front of them.”
Glyph: “Incredible! I’ve never known anything like that before. To be able to upload memories into jewels and play them back just by simply touching them? I don’t think anyone has ever come up with something like that, or even could.”
Jewel: “That’s one of the things that makes us Gemma Kinetics so special.”
Glyph: “Hmmmmm….I wonder….can you forge gems that can read minds?”
Jewel: “Ummmm……well……I…I don’t know, to tell you the truth. I haven’t been able to forge one that can….even the most advanced of my kind has yet to come up with anything like that. Although…..I guess it could be possible….we’re able to come up with just about anything…..but….I’m not sure that I can….”
Liara: “Hmmmmmmm……”
Within some time, Liara and the girls walked out while Jewel was still conversing with Glyph about the powers of the Gemma Kinetics. Soon enough, they ran into Zaeed along with a few others.
Jewel: “Huh? Oh, it’s you guys.”
Zaeed: “Aye! Heard talk that your gems can do more than break weapons and make me look like a weakling in comparison.”
Jewel: “Not the original intention with the latter, but yeah, you’re right about that. We Gemma Kinetics have forged jewels with all kinds of special functions.”
Glyph: “The amount of functions that these magical gems can generate is astronomical. I am still processing a lot of what they can do but it was most appreciative for Jewel to share them with me.”
Zaeed: “Say, since your jewels can do all sorts of incredible stuff, how about you can whip up a few for me? I think I can benefit greatly from such magical object.”
Garrus: “No! Absolutely not!!”
Zaeed looked over and noticed Garrus walk in along with Ashley, Tali, Samara, Miranda and Mordin.
Garrus: “I’m not going to allow you to use these girls as tools for your own personal gain!! They may have magical powers but that doesn’t mean they should be exploited.”
Zaeed: “Oy, calm down, Garrus, I didn’t mean it like that. I was going to ask them if they could lend an extra hand with dealing with the most recent threat.”
Jewel: “It’s OK, Garrus. We don’t mind lending our powers. You could use our help with going up against the…new enemies.”
Jacob: “It would be nice to receive a little extra help in that department. We’re as good as defenseless against those dark entities, not to mention their master, the vigilante.”
Star: “Of course. How else are you going to stand a chance against them? We’re the only ones who could stand even a slight chance against them. You’ll need a little magic to help deal with that.”
Mordin: “Indeed, already working on looking into that. Perhaps utilize magical energy to enhance our weaponry in order to penetrate this recent threat.”
Javik: “That truly sounds like a great benefactor. I do not see how this would be considered exploiting these magical girls.”
Thane: “Plus, it’s the only option we have. If the girls are willing to lend their strength and power, then I think it is for their best interest that we support it.”
Garrus let out an annoyed grunt.
Garrus: “Fine, I’ll allow that, but Zaeed, if you were so much as to take advantage of these girls, I’ll see to it that the remorse towards that is so bad and so painful that having to be gunned down is the only relief that you will ever receive.”
Zaeed: “Wouldn’t dream of it, believe me. Besides, it would be embarrassing for me to depend solely on a bunch of little girls to fight all of my battles for me. I’m more than capable of handling things myself. What kind of mercenary do you think I am if I only let others fight my battles for me? Not much fun unless I take part in the action.”
Garrus: “Well, I can believe that. You’re never one to just sit back and let everyone else get their hands dirty, so I know I can trust you on that.”
Zaeed: “Damn right you can.”
Star: “Hah! As if we would do the same! Don’t leave us out of this, you guys! You can bet that we will give it our all, one way or another.”
Splash: “Oh, absolutely!”
Aera: “Yeah, we already made up our minds and we’re here to kick some serious butt!”
Flare: “Yes, of course.”
Tali: “And we’ll do whatever we can to help, as promised.”
Samara: “Yes, certainly.”
Traynor: “We would be happy to lend a hand. I, myself, am not an actual fighter, but I do have skills that could come in handy in the field of battle.”
Splash: “We’ll hold you to that, no problem.”
Garrus seemed somewhat concerned. He walked up to Jewel and placed his hand on her shoulder.
Garrus: “Just be careful, OK? And let us know if we push you too far.”
Jewel: “You don’t need to worry about that. We’ll be fine. We’ve been through worse.”
Garrus still seemed worried.
Tali: “Let’s all agree to keep a close watch on each of them, in case they do get pushed beyond their limits.”
Ashley: “Yeah, I think that would be a great idea. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to them, not just because the galaxy depends on them.”
Mordin: “Excellent idea, each of us take part in being caretakers for the girls. Look after their well-being, very important to us, agree with the Lt. Commander on having this be for sentimental reasons.”
Miranda: “So, who do you guys thinks would take charge of most of the caretaker responsibilities?”
Liara: “I think Garrus has a good handle on that.”
Garrus: “Wait, what?”
Tali: “Oh, I couldn’t agree more. He does have a lot of compassion towards them, not to mention that he’s been jumping into the chance to protect them however he can.”
Mordin: “Agreed, very overprotective, very fitting role for him. Doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind on how they should be treated. Would be a waste to pass up the opportunity.”
Garrus: “You’re kidding, right? You’re putting me in charge of looking after them? Do I look like an ideal father for a bunch of rebellious teenagers? There’s no way I’m going to be put through that kind of stress! I already have too much on my plate!”
Tali: “Relax, will you? You’re not the only one who will be put through that responsibility.”
Mordin: “But, no doubt be put on as the main caretaker.”
Garrus: “Wait, hold on. Don’t I get a say in all of this?”
Tali: “Of course you do, but it doesn’t really matter. You’re still getting the position.”
Miranda: “We couldn’t think of anyone else better for the position.”
Javik: “Oh, I would agree on that. Your willingness to jump in front of any decision regarding the girls that you would oppose would indeed make you the only one truly qualified for the position.”
Garrus: “Really? Me? Can’t anyone else take that position? Maybe Tali? Perhaps Miranda? Or what about Ashley? Anyone!!”
Ashley: “Sorry, I have too much on my plate to closely monitor those girls.”
Tali: “I’m too young to babysit teenagers.”
Miranda: “You’re asking me? Do I look like someone who knows how to look after young girls? I don’t even trust myself to raise my own baby sister.”
Garrus: “What about you, Liara? I’d think you make a perfect caretaker!”
Liara: “Sorry, already have my hands full. You know, Shadow Broker stuff? Can’t divide my attention between that and looking after them.”
Garrus: “And yet, it’s OK for me to divide my attention between the forward batteries AND teenagers?”
Tali: “Oh, come on, Vakarian. Your job doesn’t seem that hard. You’re not THAT preoccupied.”
Liara: “Our jobs make us much more preoccupied than yours, not to mention that you’re more trustworthy than SOME people around here.”
Liara glanced over towards Javik in a discontent manner. Garrus also looked towards him.
Garrus: “You have a point, but still? Me? I don’t know anything about taking care of teenagers!”
Tali: “But you’re a former C-Sec cop. I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of child abuse during your career, so I’m sure you picked up a few things about how to tend to teenagers.”
Garrus: “More so how to not take care of adolescence from terrible parents and caretakers.”
Tali: “So, that should be good enough, shouldn’t it?”
Garrus: “Um, no, it’s not.”
Liara: “Well, you’re already dead-set on reminding us of how we should and shouldn’t treat the girls, again, so we can’t think of anyone more qualified for the position.”
Traynor: “Hey, but…what about me? I would also like to take part of the main caretaker role, too.”
Ashley: “We could allow that, but not just for within the Normandy. Don’t forget, there’s also places beyond here where they will be taking part in fighting against those entities. We need someone with expertise in combat and well…as you have mentioned earlier, you’re not much of a fighter.”
Traynor crossed her arms, tilted her head as she turned it a little to the side and pouted.
Traynor: “Damn it all. I could have enjoyed this role so much!”
Garrus: “So, I’m guessing I really don’t have a choice about this considering that all of you are adamant about leaving this position on me.”
Tali: “Yep.”
Ashley: “Pretty much.”
Miranda: “There doesn’t seem to be any other options amongst any of us.”
Tali: “So, I guess it’s decided.”
Miranda: “I think so, too.”
Mordin: “Most certainly.”
Liara: “Indeed.”
Ashley: “Sorry, but…we’re spread out pretty thin amongst each of us.”
Garrus crossed his arms as he grunted a little.
Garrus: “From Gunnery Officer to Fayelon Caretaker. I feel like I’m being demoted.”
Mordin: “Not at all. Great honor for you, looking after magical girls. Big responsibility but should be exciting. Never a dull moment.”
Garrus: “That does not make this sound any better for me.”
Joker: “Uh, Lt. Commander? Just want to let you know that we’ll be approaching Earth real soon.”
Ashley: “OK, thank you for letting us know, Joker. We’ll be ready to land on the planet as soon as we arrive at the admiral’s current location.”
Joker: “Roger that.”
Ashley: “OK, girls. You ready to meet with the admiral?”
Jewel: “Um…….sure, I guess….I’m a little nervous, though…”
Ashley: “Don’t worry, Jewel. We’ll be here with you and your friends through the whole thing.”
Tali: “Of course.”
Garrus: “You know I’ll be there.”
Jewel looked up at everyone and smiled.
Jewel: “Thanks, guys.”
Everyone stood around and smiled.

Episode 8-Earth

Soon enough, the Normandy arrived at Earth. The girls looked out the window and stared out at it with several of the Normandy crew standing behind them.

Jewel: “So….that’s Earth, huh?”
Ashley: “Yes, that’s right. The home planet to us humans.”
The girls stared at the planet as the ship approached it.
The Normandy made its way towards a large structure in the middle of a massive and wide-open metropolis. The ship landed within a domed warehouse where it hooked up to a docking corridor, a lot of the crew members exited the ship. The entire group stood around for a bit.
Ashley: “OK, so, I’m to meet with the admiral along with the girls. Dr. Solus, I’m sure that you have a lot to inform the admiral about involving your findings regarding the girls, so we’re going to need you to come with us, too.”
Mordin: “Of course.”
Ashley: “I also informed him about the keys, so Garrus, Wrex, Javik, Tali and Liara, you’ll come with us, too.”
Garrus: “Sure.”
Miranda: “I would also like to tag along.”
Jacob: “The rest of us will stay here with the Normandy. We’ll help with coordinating the re-modifications that need to be done.”
Thane: “We’ll see you back here as soon as you’re done conversing with the admiral.”
Ashley: “Right, let’s go, girls. It’s time for you to meet with Hackett.”
Miranda looked towards the small group that intend to follow the girls and nodded once. They were then on their way.
They made their way through the corridor. Along the way, they ran into the admiral.
Ashley: “Admiral, it’s good to see you.”
Hackett: “It’s good to see you, too, Lt. Commander. How have you been doing?”
Ashley: “Not too bad. We’re still hanging in there.”
Hackett: “I assume that nothing has changed with Commander Shepard.”
Ashley: “No, nothing has changed, but we still have faith that he will come to.”
Hackett: “As do I, Williams.”
The Hackett soon noticed the girls.
Hackett: “I see that you brought the Fayelons with you.”
Ashley: “Yes, we have, just as you have requested.”
Hackett: “It’s good to finally meet with you in person, girls.”
Jewel: “Hello, Mr. Admiral sir. I’m glad we are able to have this chance.”
Star: “So, you’re really not a hologram.”
Hackett: “That’s right, young lady, I am not, this is really me, in the flesh and blood. I felt that communicating any confidential intel via the communication network would be too risky, so I wanted to meet with you face to face. If all of you would follow me.”
The admiral walked off with the small group walking with him.
Garrus: “So, admiral, I can see your Earth cities have recovered quite well.”
Hackett: “Yes, we have restored a lot since the Reaper attacks. Some places are still being rebuilt, so the repairs are ongoing, but some….have recovered a lot quicker than we expected.”
Garrus: “So glad to see that London really has patched itself up after the major toll that it took. This city just doesn’t seem to catch a break. There have been extraterrestrial attacks happening here every Christmas and that was since the first encounter with that strange man who owns a blue box that’s said to be a lot bigger on the inside.”
Aera made a somewhat irritated face.
Mordin: “Hmmmm….the idea of such a containment device seems….impossible. How can an object have more storage space than its actual size would suggest? Defies the laws of physics.”
Miranda: “I heard that said box is not displaying its true appearance. Although, could such an object make itself look a lot smaller than it really is?”
Wrex: “Sounds like complex alien talk to me.”
Javik: “Yes, let us put aside to such a trivial concept and focus on what we are here for.”
Hackett: “Yes, of course. So, I’ve been told a few small details regarding the girls and their….magical powers. I heard talk about a vigilante gone rogue and going on a killing spree.”
The girls stopped as they hung their heads and sulked. The rest of the group stopped and looked at them, they all seemed concerned.
Jewel: “Yes……he’s a champion of our realm, a sworn protector that has….taken a turn for the worse…his quest for justice and salvation for all has turned into a horrendous and nightmarish blood-bath that has spread to all corners of our realm…no one was safe from any of it….even the blood of the innocent was spilled everywhere because of him….”
The girls continued to sulk.
Hackett: “I’m terribly sorry to hear about that and I’m so sorry about your plight.”
Flare: “No need to worry about us, we are well, despite all that we have been through.”
Splash: “I only hope that we don’t cause too much trouble with our decision to stand our ground and take our fight to your realm.”
Hackett: “You don’t need to worry about that. Actually, there is something that I needed to speak to you about. All of you.”
They continued on walking.
Hackett: “It involves much that is very much relevant to your plight and trust me when I tell you that what we’ve been dealing with is of no fault of your own.”
Jewel: Huh? What do you mean?”
Hackett: “Perhaps the doctor can fill you girls in on all of it.”
Mordin: “Certainly.”
Mordin went on his Omni-tool.
Mordin: “Been picking up on a number of strange readings throughout the galaxy.”
Tali: “Strange readings?”
Mordin: “Yes, unfamiliar, foreign readings, such that is not of this galaxy but in a way is very much a part of it.”
Aera: “And what do you mean by that exactly?”
Hackett: “We’ve just taken notice of these readings not long after the Reaper invasion. A lot of our scientists have been looking into them to try and figure out what they were, but to no avail.”
Garrus: “Hold on, you’ve picked up on these readings since after the Reapers were completely dealt with?”
Hackett: “Yes, this wasn’t brought out to the public since we, ourselves, had no idea what they were. It was an ongoing investigation. I even asked Dr. T'Soni to look into them since she has massive amounts of data that not many knew about as well as unlimited access to many databases throughout the entire galaxy.”
Liara: “I’ve spent a lot of time searching every resource that have access to, but I couldn’t find anything.”
Hackett: “So, when Dr. T'Soni couldn’t figure out these readings, we brought in Dr. Solus shortly after he came out of his coma, but his findings were also inconclusive.”
Garrus: “Wait, hold that thought. Liara? You knew about this, too?”
Liara: “Yes. Even if I wasn’t informed, I would have found out about it sooner or later.”
Garrus: “That’s not the point. You guys knew about this and never said anything to us.”
Liara: “Well, we couldn’t. There wasn’t much for us to discuss.”
Mordin: “As was mentioned before, all of these findings were inconclusive. The data that we have received was insufficient. Spent a lot of time trying to find more data regarding it, but couldn’t.”
Garrus: “Well, you could have told us about all of this. We would have helped you to find more intel regarding these strange readings.”
Mordin: “Could you? If we couldn’t find anything, then chances of the rest of you seeking out any more intel regarding this were very slim at best.”
Liara: “Like I said, there really wasn’t much to discuss.”
Garrus: “Well….when you put it that way….guess there really was no point to it.”
Mordin: “Yes, exactly.”
Tali: “But…what changed all of that? Why are you telling us this now?”
Mordin: “Glad you asked. Data regarding the mysterious readings remained inconclusive until just recently. Found out much more, lots more. Occurred around the same time as the most recent arrival: the Fayelons.”
Jewel: “Us?”
Mordin: “Yes, it seems you girls provided the necessary and vital key to figuring out these readings. From them, was able to discover what these readings are: magic.”
Garrus: “Magic? You mean they’re….magical energy?”
Mordin: “Correct.”
Garrus: “Magical energy? In our galaxy? Heh, I find that hard to believe.”
Flare: “Do you know how long this magical energy has been part of this realm?”
Mordin: “Uncertain, but it is believed that it has been part of our galaxy, our realm, for many, many years.”
Liara: “They seem to have dated back a lot farther back than any of us could possibly calculate; they’ve even been around since long before the Protheans.”
Javik: “The Protheans, you mean even before my people?”
Liara: “That’s right, I believe that the magical energy itself is very much part of the cosmos.”
Tali: “Wow, that is very shocking.”
Mordin was on his Omni-tool.
Mordin: “After scanning the girls and looking into their magical energy, have found a number of similarities between the energy that is produced within their bodies and the readings we have been analyzing. The similarities truly have us come up to the conclusion that this IS magical energy that we have been looking into all this time.”
Garrus: “And here I thought magic wasn’t real, but as it turns out, it’s been a part of our galaxy this whole time. Who would have thought?”
Wrex: “My race hasn’t exactly been known to believe in magic, but even everything that has happened has made me into a believer.”
Tali: “Yeah, that speaks high volumes in more ways than one.”
Hackett: “After this recent discovery, our findings have gone deeper than that. If you guys would follow me, there is something I need to show you.”
They continued on through.
They arrived at a large chamber. They stopped to see it surrounded by consoles save for a few gaps where there were doorways, as well as a massive hologram projector.
Jewel: “Whoa…..what is this place?”
Hackett: “This is our conference room. I brought you here because there is a lot that we need to show all of you. Now if you will follow me.”
They moved up closer to the projector at the center of the room. As they spoke, different images were projected from within the center of the room.
Hackett: “Upon discovering these readings to be magical energy, they have helped to fill many gaps and answer a lot of questions that we have been trying to figure out for these past several months. Within the aftermath of the Reaper War, there has been a lot going on, to put it vaguely. The repairs to many of our cities and colonies were obviously one of them. However, within the midst of all of it, there have been many unusual discoveries. One of the readings and….other unusual findings.”
Garrus: “Unusual? You must be talking about the mysterious survivals.”
Hackett: “Exactly, you already know that there have been reports of thousands who have survived by impossible outcomes.”
Garrus: “I’ve noticed. The turian fleets have taken a lot of heavy damage during that war and most of them were wiped out, but I’ve been receiving intel from Palaven that 18% of the military personnel that were said to have been wiped out had survived by these mysterious circumstances.”
Tali: “Obviously, that wasn’t the only report of those occurrences. Some of the members of the former Quarian Migrant Fleet survived by these circumstances, too. Kal'Reegar and his quadrant were amongst them, thank goodness, but still, it’s really strange.”
Liara: “We’ve had the same experience with the asari on Thessia. There have been readings of life signs all over our home planet. We have had search parties going all over the rubble from our wrecked cities finding bodies of so many of our kind; all of them still very much alive.”
Hackett: “Reports of this have been going all over the entire galaxy. The galaxy was indeed in no shortage of unsolved mysteries. The growing angst to find answers to all of them increased with each passing day. Both our research team who were looking into the readings and many of the denizens that were left in the dark grew frustrated, desperate to find answers to everything that’s been happening with nothing to truly clarify any of it, that was until you girls came into the picture.”
Jewel: “Really? But…we didn’t do anything.”
Hackett: “It’s not what you did necessarily that helped us out, but what you provided. After Dr. Solus analyzed your magical powers, he sent all his findings to us. It wasn’t a lot but it was just the very thing that was needed to truly bring to light a lot of what we’ve been trying to find out. You provided us with the answers that we have been desperately looking for.”
Jewel: “I’m afraid I don’t understand, sir. What was it that we could have provided that helped you to solve these mysteries?”
Star: “Does this have something to do with finding out that these mysterious readings were confirmed to be magical energy?”
Hackett: “Yes and it turns out that from your powers, we were able to find that all of these strange occurrences are very much connected with one another.”
Mordin: “Yes, having been able to find out from all of this that the true cause of these mysterious and impossible survival rates was indeed magic.”
Jewel: “Oh my…..by the Divine Source!!!!!”
Tali: “Are you saying that a lot of these people were somehow saved by magic!?!”
Hackett: “Yes, at least, that’s what the data has been telling us. Besides, we can’t seem to find any other explanation on how any of it is possible.”
Everyone stood around speechless for a good amount of time.
Garrus: “Magic….!!! I….I don’t believe it….!!!! But….it….it all makes sense…..”
Javik: “Hmph!!! This all sounds like a bunch of nonsensical fairy-tale malarkey.”
Aera: “Oh, again with the mentioning of these fairy-tales?”
Javik: “I mean, seriously? Magic? Do you expect me to believe that all of this is true?”
Liara: “Say whatever you want, the data pretty much makes it undeniable.”
Wrex: “Even I can’t deny it and I’m probably the last person to believe in magic.”
Tali: “Yes, that would be a given.”
Javik: “I’ll admit, it is difficult to ignore such after witnessing these….magical girls and their….magical powers…but if this…magic has been a part of our galaxy, then how come so many have been saved by this just now? Also, why weren’t the Protheans saved by this kind of phenomenon and why did this not stop the Reapers if it would be capable of such miracles?”
Miranda: “Yes, that would have been nice if it could have saved all of us.”
Hackett: “I didn’t say all of the mysteries were solved and to be honest, I would have loved to find the answers to those questions, but I didn’t expect that we would find answers to every question. Still, I’m confident that we will find them eventually. These girls have given us renewed hope and I know that with their help, all of these mysteries will be solved. Besides, I can’t say that it was a complete miracle; not everyone was saved by this.”
Javik: “Hmph! I won’t deny that; my people were slaughtered ages ago. Such a statement was true long before any of you primitives reached the same evolutionary stage as us.”
Aera: “As if your people were any better. There doesn’t seem to be enough magic in this realm or throughout the entire universe to keep your massive ego in check.”
Everyone nearby laughed.
Javik: “Hmph! Your snark is getting more and more agitating, Aeromancer.”
Hackett: “Ahem, there is still much more that I need to go over with you guys.”
Aera: “Huh? There’s more?”
Hackett: “Yes and…I think it regards your….vigilante, or rather the dark entity that he controls.”
Jewel: “What?”
Star: “Really?”
Flare: “This can’t be?”
Splash: “How so?”
Hackett: “First off, I would like to remind you that this is no fault of your own, but….well….I’m sure that Dr. Solus will fill you in on that.”
The girls looked at Mordin.
Star: “Dr. Solus…..?”
Mordin was back on his Omni-tool.
Mordin: “This dark magic, not the first we’ve encountered it, or rather….its readings.”
Jewel: “Readings!?!”
Splash: “You mean to say that you’ve picked up on Dark magic before our arrival?”
Mordin: “Yes, took notice of this for several months.”
Jewel: “Several months!?! There have been readings from Dark magic for that long!?!”
Star: “But we just got here like yesterday, I think. Could have been today. Can’t really tell, but we’ve most certainly haven’t been here for several months.”
Aera: “We were still drifting from one realm to another.”
Mordin: “Yes, as did your Dark entity. Although not as potent as the entity, very much similar to it.”
Flare: “I don’t….believe it….”
Splash: “But…what could this mean?”
Hackett: “We’re not really sure, the data is still insufficient, so it’s far too early to even come up with any theories, but it seems that there is very much a connection here. We will find out what that connection is.”
Mordin: “Let us start off with something simple: the survivors. Would like to receive scans of each and every single one of them. Need to find out more about the magical energy that has saved them from dying, saved….us….”
Hackett: “That won’t be a problem, all of these survivors have been receiving routine check-ups to make certain that nothing would cause a dramatic decrease in their health. I’ll have all the data sent to you as soon as I can.”
Mordin: “Greatly appreciated. Will also need to scan myself, being amongst those survivors.”
Miranda: “We may need to do the same with Thane, Commander Shepard and…..”
Tali: “Captain Anderson?”
Miranda: “Yes, of course. Speaking of which, is he….?”
Hackett: “No, he still hasn’t come to, yet. From what he has gone through, it’s no doubt that he’s another of those survivors, too.”
Liara: “Of course. He should have died from his injuries, but it’s apparent that something did keep him alive.”
Garrus: “No way we can deny magic after that realization.”
At that moment, a generic scientist came over. Alongside him was a middle-aged woman.
Scientist: “Oh, hey, admiral.”
Hackett: “Hello, did you need to see me for something?”
Scientist: “Thought that I might give you the results of the most recent analysis.”
Hackett: “Thank you for that. By the way, I don’t think you’re acquainted with Dr. Solus.”
Scientist: “Doctor who?”
Aera made a greatly agitated face.
Scientist: “Oh, right, I remember you. You’re that salarian doctor that was part of the mysterious survival rates that we’ve been looking over.”
Mordin: “The very same. May I look over the research that you have there?”
Scientist: “Sure, I’ll be happy to give it to you.”
He handed the data over to Mordin.
Mordin: “Much appreciated, young man.”
Scientist: “I’ll get going on the rest of the other data.”
The scientist walked off. The middle-aged woman stay behind.
Hackett: “Ah, it’s good to see you again, madam.”
Woman: “The pleasure is all mine.”
Hackett: “By the way, I’m sure that you haven’t been introduced. These people over here are amongst the crew of the Normandy.”
Woman: “Hello, everyone.”
The woman then pulled out her ID badge.
Woman: “Prime Minister Harriet Jones.”
Garrus: “Uh…..yeah….we know who you are.”
Mordin nodded.
Prime Minister: “Damn it! What’s the point of introducing myself if everyone already knows who I am?”
Hackett: “Calm down, Prime Minister. I’m sure there’s someone out there who doesn’t know your name.”
Jewel: “Uh…..We didn’t but now we do.”
Prime Minister: “Well, nice chatting with all of you. I need to finish up on some important matters. Admiral.”
The prime minister walked off. Aera had an irritated look on her face.
Star: “Um….what was that all about?”
Ashley: “Let’s just forget about that.”
Aera: “Believe me, I would be happy to!!!”
They stood by for a little bit as they tried to contemplate a little.
Hackett: “One other thing. Those keys, I would like to have a good look at them. If you wouldn’t mind.”
Garrus, Wrex, Javik, Tali and Liara pulled out the keys that were given to each of them and held them out. The admiral spent a little bit of time looking at them.
Hackett: “So….those are magical keys that I’ve heard so much about.”
Mordin scanned the keys with the use of his Omni-tool.
Jewel: “Actually…those are just parts of them.”
Liara: “Yes, we were told that these are half of each of the keys that they’ve taken from their realm.”
Aera: “The other halves stay with us. You can say whatever you want but we won’t give them up!”
Hackett: “Calm down, young lady. I’m not asking you to surrender the rest of your keepsakes. It’s probably better if you girls held on to the other pieces of those keys.”
Jewel: “Thank you, sir. We….have our reasons for holding on to these. We don’t want to talk about them….not yet….anyway….”
Mordin observed his Omni-tool after scanning the keys. Garrus and the others put the keys away.
Hackett: “Did you find anything interesting, Dr.?”
He continued looking into the results of the scans a little before talking.
Mordin: “Hm…..detect traces of magical energy. Very unique, no similar from the girls. Have a hunch but will need to further analyze this.”
Tali: “These keys are said to unlock some sort of magical door. Is there any way for us to figure out what could be on the other side of it?”
Mordin: “Uncertain. Believe that a simple scan will not determine what’s on the other side of that door. Could contain the ultimate magical source or perhaps could lead to a very special place, or perhaps even both. So many possibilities, but not looking for answers to that, only clues.”
Wrex: “I’m guessing the only way to know what’s on the other side of that door is to open that door and see for ourselves.”
Garrus: “Are you serious? What if it’s too risky? If there really is an ultimate source of magical energy or something like that, then perhaps it’s better to leave that door locked. I’m surprised no one even attempted to destroy these keys!!!”
Star: “Well, no one has been able to find them until just recently, so doing so wouldn’t exactly be something we could do even if we have thought about it, which we didn’t.”
Flare: “Also…we always felt that there was a reason why we would need to gain access to that door, like some sort of sign that if the time should come, we need to gain access to whatever is behind that door.”
Liara: “And what exactly do you think that would be?”
Flare: “We don’t know, but….I feel that it’s something that would happen when the time came. At least….that’s what I think.”
Javik: “I do not know what any of that meant. You girls sound like you don’t have a clue as to what you have or what you’re dealing with.”
Star: “Of course we don’t!! We’re teenagers!!! What did you expect we would know about this!?!”
Jewel: “Even our elders know very little about what this could be. But one thing is certain: whatever is behind that door, we can’t let that vigilante gain access to it.”
Liara: “Yes, we understand.”
Hackett: “Sounds like this is a mystery that we may need to try and solve. In the meantime, I’ve arranged to have each of you taken to wherever each of you plan to hide away these pieces of those keys. When Williams informed me of what you plan to do, I agreed that we must do all we can to prevent this vigilante from reclaiming these keys and gaining access to whatever is hidden behind that door.”
Garrus: “We appreciate that. Also….these girls….we’ll need to….help them get stronger. We all know that their enemy intends to put the entire galaxy in danger just to get what he wants.”
Hackett: “Yes, I understand. From what I’ve been told and from the data I received, these girls are the only ones who remotely stands a chance against this….dark force.”
They stood by for a bit and sulked for a bit.
Hackett: “Now then, shall we get going? There’s still much for us to talk about. Also, since you girls are to be staying here in our galaxy, we’ll need to arrange a few things for each of you.”
Star: “Sounds good to me.”
Ashley: “Let’s go, there’s still a lot to look into.”
Miranda: “Of course.”
They walked out of the room and continued on their way through the corridors.
Meanwhile, back where the Normandy was, the rest of the crew were working on the ship. Some of them stood by to look after the progress.
Jacob: “Everything seems to be going well, just as we had coordinated.”
Thane: “Indeed, although, there are some suggestions the girls have in mind that I find….perplexing, especially Star’s.”
Grunt: “Heh, that Star has some unusual tastes.”
Samara: “I get the feeling that she will make things very interesting.”
Zaeed: “Of course, not that the other girls would be any less. That Jewel is tough, perhaps tougher than any rock that she could forge with her magical powers.”
Traynor: “That’s magical girls for you.”
Samara: “She most certainly threw you for a loop.”
Grunt: “Heh! Yeah, she made you look like a wuss and your weapons seem like cheap, frail pieces of crap.”
Zaeed: “Yeah, yeah, keeping talking.”
James: “Never thought I’d see the ship finally having its modifications finished. It pretty much up and left just as the upgrades were finishing up.”
EDI: “It was an action that needed to be taken; there really was no other choice.”
Joker: “Yeah, it really got serious there.”
James: “I get that. The Reapers pretty much didn’t leave room for any other options.”
EDI: “No, they didn’t. It was either that or risk obliteration.”
Joker: “Had we not taken off like we did, it would have been all over, not just for us but for the entire galaxy. Gives me chills just thinking about it.”
Traynor: “Yeah, that was interesting. I’m just so glad I was part of the whole thing. It was incredible.”
Jacob: “I can’t believe the amount of changes that took place with this ship. I had a hard time recognizing it when I saw it again. My usual station was gone. They really renovated the ship.”
Thane: “Yeah, it was almost as though they knew that the Reapers were real and were preparing for their foreseeable arrival and assault.”
Jacob: “Glad to see some members of the alliance didn’t dismiss our claims about the Reapers. Too bad it didn’t do much to prevent so many casualties.”
Thane: “I get the feeling that’s somehow compensated. The mysterious survivals seem to suggest that.”
Jacob: “Yeah, I think so, too. Judging from the analysis, a lot of those people shouldn’t even be alive; so many of them are not even possible.”
Samara: “We already believe that the nature behind all of it is very strange.”
Zaeed: “This coming from the mistress of all things bizarre.”
EDI: “From the analysis, it is indeed very, very difficult to comprehend how these survival were even possible. A lot of them took on some very serious injuries, some also survived the destruction of their cruisers.”
Jacob: “From hearing that, magic has to be the only possible way for any of these survivals to be possible.”
Thane: “I wonder if they’re talking about that now.”
Jacob: “Probably. I know the admiral would be very interested to hear about all of this. I would like to hear what they have found out.”
Thane: “Indeed, any answer would truly suffice. I’ve contemplated a lot of how it was possible for me to even be here. Although…..I feel like….I’ve already known how this could be…but I can’t remember what that was. It’s….strange. I feel like my soul knows things that my body doesn’t.”
James: “That’s a….drell thing, right?”
Thane: “Probably…it’s not easy to explain.”
Joker: “So….it’s official; we’ll be having magical crew members on board the Normandy.”
Traynor: “Well, I find it to be exciting!! It’ll be like reliving my childhood all over again!!”
Joker: “You really have been a lot of those shows, haven’t you?”
Traynor: “Of course!!! I’ve watched every single one of them, especially the non-anime magical girl show.”
EDI: “Hm, yeah, I remember something like that from gaining access to the Earth history archives.”
James: “The magical girl craze was so immense that pretty much everyone and their mothers wanted to copy and remake that concept over and over.”
Traynor: “Absolutely! It was one of the most popular tropes in anime. People really couldn’t get enough of them!! I could see why.”
EDI: “Yes, so can I.”
Joker: “So, how about you, EDI? Your thoughts on these…magical girl shows?”
EDI: “I don’t have much of an opinion, to be honest. I know only what I was able to research in the archives. But they do sound exciting. I’ve also read on the humans and the trouble with a lot of their females gaining equal treatment. This, I believe, really did feed on the craze. The idea of girls being the main heroes was a very exciting concept that a lot really wanted to get behind.”
Jacob: “Yeah, that does make sense. The problems with the women in that aspect has diminished a lot over the years, but the issue, itself, has all but disappeared.”
Samara: “That’s really sad. I have heard about that. My people have a very hard time understanding why that is for obvious reasons, but with issues like that being so ongoing, it’s not so hard to understand why the concept of female heroes are so greatly celebrated.”
Zaeed: “You have no idea that kind of crap that we have put ourselves through just because some men like to feel superior over women. I was never one to fall into that state of mind, but it has been part of our race for many generations.”
Traynor: “Yes, that much is true.”
James: “I’m sorry it had to come to that. A lot of us men were nothing but a bunch of stuck-up, arrogant a*******, weren’t we? Couldn’t get enough of dominating over women. The thought of it makes me sick.”
Joker: “We really are quite dumb when it comes to stuff like that. No wonder why so many of us liked stuff involving girls saving the day and such.”
The humans all hung their heads down and sulked.
James: “Hmmm….wonder if those girls went through something like that.”
Traynor: “I sure hope not. It seems to me like the females of their race would be the more superior ones with them having more magic than the men.”
Jacob: “We can’t be too sure of anything. Remember: when there are some with incredible powers, there are always others who would do whatever they can to weaken them. Chances are, that’s how it is in their world.”
Traynor: “Say…you think they’ve also dealt with prejudicism before?”
Jacob: “Not sure, in fact, they didn’t even mention what it was that they’ve been dealing with back in their world, other than the vigilante. Even so, I feel that we haven’t even scratched the surface of a good amount of their issues.”
Everyone stood silent for that moment, concerned.

Episode 9-Overcast

At that time, the rest of the group with the admiral were still making their way through the corridors.

Hackett: “Well, considering that you girls will be staying here in our galaxy for the time being, we’ll need to have you situated. We’re going to need to provide each of you with an Omni-tool.”
Star: “An Omni-tool?”
Liara: “Yes, it’s very much the device that Dr. Solus has been using.”
Star: “Sounds cool. Can you do lots of things with that device?”
Garrus: “Oh, absolutely, there’s plenty you can do with it.”
Tali: “As the name implies, it has many functions.”
Liara: “Every citizen in the galaxy has one.”
Splash: “So, we’ll be getting one, too? That sounds awesome!! I can’t wait!”
Hackett: “The Omni-tool is to be placed on the forearm of your recessive hand.”
Aera: “The installment is not painful, is it?”
Hackett: “No, not at all. It’s a quick and simple procedure. Even a child much younger than you girls could install it very easily.”
Splash: “Well, that’s a relief.”
Hackett: “Many of us install the Omni-tool on our left arms as a lot of us are right-handed.”
Aera: “I really hope that’s not an issue for a few of us. Star and Splash would have absolutely no conflicts with that, but Jewel and I? We’re left-handed.”
Hackett: “That’s fine. We appreciate you letting us know about that.”
Liara: “But, wait, what about Flare?”
Aera: “Oh? Flare? Well….she….”
Jewel: “She’s special. She learned how to use both of her hands easily for lots of things.”
Mordin: “Oh! Ambidextrous?”
Flare: “Yes. It is part of my world’s culture. We learn how to write and use other instruments with both hands easily. We believe that to utilize both sides of our bodies and treat both equally is a means of maintaining balance with ourselves.”
Javik: “The people of your culture seems to be all about maintaining balance within themselves.”
Flare: “Yes, it….us pyromancers…we’ve faced a lot of hardships with our powers. Many of the other magic users feared our powers. We underwent intense training and discipline exercises as a means of keeping our powers and ourselves in check to make certain that our powers don’t cause anyone any harm.”
Flare sulked for a brief moment.
Flare: “Oh! Sorry, I…I was rambling a bit. Didn’t mean to go on like that.”
Liara: “No, it’s OK. It’s apparent that you have a lot to talk about involving your culture.”
Flare: “Yes, lots. I….would like to talk more about it you guys whenever I can.”
Liara: “That won’t be a problem. We look forward to hearing more about your culture.”
Star: “Oh, she has lots more to share. Her culture has had a long and grueling history.”
Splash: “All the more reason why we’re glad to have her here with us.”
Flare: “Words can not express my gratitude to each of you to reach out to me with open arms and a warm heart. Your truly are people that I would gladly call my friends.”
Flare looked very content.
Hackett: “So, I’ve been hearing a lot about these girls and their powers. They have….transformation abilities to change forms at will if I’m not mistaken.”
Tali: “Yep, they’re very much like a magical girl anime.”
Hackett: “I see you’ve watched a lot of those shows. I know about those shows all too well.”
Garrus: “Wait! You’ve also watched those girl shows?”
Hackett: “Not so much, but I have a few granddaughters who love those magical girl shows. They’re especially huge fans of that long running magical girl series known as the Pretty Cures. I have one whose prized possession is one of those magical toy sticks, very similar to the ones from that particular Pretty Cure season involving those girls who were named after different pieces of fruit.”
Tali: “Ohhhhhh!!! You must be referring to Fresh Pretty Cure!!! That’s my favorite of the series!!! Oh! I’ve missed that show so much!!!! What I’d give to see it again!!!”
Mordin: “That won’t be a problem. Already arranged to have many of those shows uploaded. We can watch them together.”
Tali: “Really!?! You would do that!?! I’d look forward to that!!!”
Mordin: “Likewise. Will need these shows for research as well as….personal enjoyment.”
Garrus: “Again with this talk of these magical girls shows? I swear, it’s all these 2 have talked about ever since the arrival of these girls.”
Mordin: “These magical girl shows lots of fun to watch. Have fond memories of watching them with my niece. Always reminded of her.”
Splash: “Awwww, that’s so cute!!!!”
Liara: “How old is your niece, by the way?”
Mordin: “Unsure, haven’t seen her within a few years, but…was a young girl last I saw her. Parents are always busy, not a lot of time to spend with their daughter. I was her favorite uncle, always made time for her whenever I visited with her.”
Tali: “Is that why you always enjoy watching magical girl shows with her?”
Mordin: “Yes, is also why I’ve come to enjoy those shows personally. Parents managed to obtain a lot of those shows, niece spent endless hours watching them as a way to deal with boredom. Sometimes had some of her friends over to watch them with her.”
Splash: “Your niece sounds like a wonderful person. We would love to meet her.”
Hackett: “It also sounds like she would become real close friends with my granddaughters. They would also have sleepovers with their friends and watch a lot of those magical girl shows.”
Aera: “It wouldn’t surprise us the least bit if they would shriek with joy over meeting us real live magical girls.”
Mordin: “Wouldn’t doubt that, either, Aera. Young girls would be thrilled over meeting actual magical girls, my niece especially.”
Garrus: “Alright, stop, since when did this become another magical girl fest?”
Tali: “Sorry, guess we got carried away. Then again, just the idea of this has really got us ecstatic, so, can you really blame us?”
Garrus: “I suppose I can’t, but….I hardly care about any of this. My only concerns are the real live magical girls that we need to look after.”
Mordin: “Anime shows good way to better understand these girls, understand magical girls in general. You should try watching them with us. Help out with looking after them.”
Garrus: “You’re just going to keep egging this on until I agree to it, aren’t you? Both you and Tali?”
Tali: “You should at least give one episode a try. You’d be surprised that these shows are much less delicate and more action-packed. I admit that a lot of the girlish stuff is a bit off-putting, but the action scenes will really surprise you.”
Garrus: “I think I’ll wait till after you guys are able to obtain those shows before I make my decision.”
Mordin: “Fair enough. Gives you plenty of time to think about it.”
Garrus: “Riiiiight…”
Aera: “Will you guys shut up about that already!?! Let Garrus make the decision himself when he’s good and ready!! Geez!!!”
Garrus: “Heh, couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks for that, Aera.”
Aera: “No problem. I had to put a stop to that before it becomes a running gag. I hate running gags!”
Garrus smiled at her. Just then, it got dark. Garrus took notice of this.
Garrus: “What the…..?”
Everyone turned their attention towards the window.
Hackett: “What is….going on….?”
Jewel: “Oh, no.”
Garrus: “Don’t tell me. It’s him, isn’t it?”
Jewel looked up at Garrus with a concerned and serious look on his face.
Jewel: “Yes, it’s him.”
They ran through the corridor as fast as they could.
They were able to make their way towards a nearby balcony. As they stood and stared out from it, they were greatly startled by what they saw: before them was a massive, black, vortex-like phenomenon high in the sky, darkening everything. It looked almost like a terrifying storm appeared over them. This was also being noticed by the crew members that were back with the Normandy.
Zaeed: “Whoa….since when did it get dark all of a sudden?”
Thane: “Oh, no…! It’s him!!”
Jacob: “Yes.”
Samara: “Is that the dark entity that’s been chasing the girls throughout the cosmos?”
Jacob stood and stared out at it with a serious look on his face.
Back with the other group, everyone stood beside each other as they looked up at this dark entity.
Liara: “By the goddess….!!!”
Mordin went on his Omni-tool again.
Hackett: “Would that be the dark entity being controlled by your vigilante?”
Jewel: “I’m afraid so….”
The dark phenomenon indeed portrayed itself as a fierce storm as black lightning shot from out of it, strong winds blowing through all over the place; it truly was a terrifying sight. Soon enough, it summoned nightmarish creatures. The creatures went all over the place, attacking everyone in sight.
Flare: “NO! Not this again!!!”
Splash: “It’s attacking everyone!!”
Aera: “This is really bad!!”
Jewel: “We can’t let this continue. We have to protect everyone here.”
Flare: “Yes, we’re the only ones who can.”
Splash: “Guess it’s that time again.”
Jewel: “Of course.”
Star: “Oh, yeah!!! Now we’re talking!! Playtime is over!!! Let’s go kick some serious butt!!”
Aera: “Oh, I’m so all over that!!”
Star turned towards Mordin and smiled at him.
Star: “Heh! You’ve already seen us demonstrate our powers and that was just a warm up. You ready to see some real action, Dr. Solus?”
Mordin: “Ready as I’ll ever be. Been looking forward to seeing what a live-action magical girl anime would look like.”
Star: “Then get ready for a spectacle that I know you’re going to love. Shall we, Jewel?”
Jewel: “Sure, let’s go, girls!”
The girls stepped forward and readied themselves.
Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera, Splash: “Metamorphose!!!”
From there, the girls changed right in front of their friends. It was incredibly brief but amazing to look at. The admiral seemed amazed by this. The girls were able to complete their transformation.
Jewel: “Let’s hurry!! There’s a lot that we need to deal with!!!”
They ran towards the edge of the balcony, jumped off then sprouted their wings and flew off. The rest of the group stood by and watched as the girls flew off.
The girls flew everywhere and fought off many of the dark beings from the storm. The group that’s been with them watched as the girls fought against the threat. The group was in awe as the girls utilized their abilities.
Hackett: “Unbelievable…!!!! They really are like a live-action magical girl anime; the transformation and everything. I never would have thought that I would witness something like this.”
Mordin: “Most astonishing!! The girls’ magical powers incredible. Such capable fighters. Just like the magical girls from all of those shows.”
Tali: “Yes, they are amazing.”
Mordin: “Hmmm…..yes…the girls….incredibly capable indeed, however…..”
Garrus: “Yeah, their combat skills and magical powers are just as formidable as they are amazing to watch, but….they’re no where near as strong as they need to be.”
Mordin: “Exactly. Must and will find a way to enhance their magical strength. Can handle the monstrous underlings, but….the entity….”
They both looked up at the massive vortex-like entity in the sky. Mordin took a deep breath through his nose just like he always does.
Mordin: “Far beyond their limits.”
Garrus: “Any ideas on how we help them with that?”
Mordin: “Hmmmm…..not sure, but….not my biggest concerns.”
Garrus: “I did not like how that sounded.”
Mordin went on his Omni-tool. He would interchange between looking at his Omni-tool and looking back up at the sky.
Mordin: “Something about the entity…..lots of…..questionable….conundrums….”
Liara: “What….do you mean by that?”
Mordin deactivated his Omni-tool.
Mordin: “Lots of data regarding the entity. Most of it insufficient. Can not look into this at moment. Will need to analyze this another time.”
Miranda: “Judging by the size of that thing, I’m not too surprised by that.”
Mordin: “Size not relevant to how advanced this data is. More to it than that.”
Tali: “What do you mean?”
Mordin: “Have my suspicions, but need to analyze the data to confirm them.”
Garrus: “Care to tell us what your suspicions are, Dr.?”
Mordin paused for a moment.
Mordin: “Can not say much, but…..these readings….indicate this entity….(sniff) not the first encounter within this galaxy.”
Everyone stood by for a moment as they were stunned by what they had heard.
Tali: “But….what could this mean…..?”
Garrus: “Wait, didn’t you guys mention something about those mysterious readings you were looking into being magical energy?”
Mordin: “Yes, that much is true, but says very little about the readings similar to that entity.”
Garrus: “That entity is pure Dark magic if I’m not mistaken.”
Mordin: “Yes, that much is true, but again, data insufficient. Need time to look into it.”
The battle within the skies began to intensify. The girls were doing the best they could to fight back, but they were being easily overwhelmed.
Tali: “Those girls are not doing so well. They’re being overrun.”
Miranda: “I wish there was something that we could do, but what?”
Garrus: “Well, at the moment, we need to hide away those keys.”
Hackett: “The arrangements that I’ve told you about have already been set up. There is a nearby hangar bay with a few shuttles that are waiting for each of you. Now hurry.”
Liara: “We appreciate that, admiral.”
Wrex: “Well, what are we waiting for? The sooner we hide those keys, the better I’ll feel knowing they’re out of that maniac’s reach.”
Javik: “Yes, let us not waste another minute and get this done already.”
Tali: “We’ll meet you guys back at the Normandy.”
Garrus, Wrex, Javik, Tali and Liara ran off while Ashley, Miranda, Mordin and the admiral stood by and continued observing the fight.
All 5 of them were brought to a hanger bay where 5 shuttles were waiting for them, just like the admiral had informed them. Each of them stepped into a shuttle. As soon as they entered them, the shuttle doors closed. Garrus looked back up at the sky as the girls continued the fight.
Garrus: “Don’t worry, girls. You’ll never have to fight this alone. I promise you that.”
With all the doors closed, the shuttles took off and left Earth. There was hardly any interference towards the shuttles as they took off.The rest of the group stood by and continued to watch. They seemed concerned and worried about the girls.
Miranda: “Girls….”
Mordin continued to look into his Omni-tool.
Overtime, the fight began to gradually calm down as the monsters were decreasing bit by bit.
Jewel: “Looks like things are beginning to settle down again.”
She looked up at the large entity.
Jewel: “The vigilante has depleted his energy, overexerted himself again. No surprise.”
Star: “Well, it’s about time! I didn’t know how much more I could take!”
Flare: “We should rest up too after we convert back to our dormant forms.”
Jewel: “Yeah….we should.”
Voice: “DON’T THINK THAT THIS IS OVER!!! I STILL HAVE MORE TRICKS IN MY ARSENAL!!! MY CONNECTION WITH THIS REALM RUNS DEEPER THAN YOU MAY THINK!! THE REAPERS COULDN’T HAVE POSSIBLY DOMINATED OVER EVERY SAPIENT LIFE WITHIN IT BY THEMSELVES!”
Jewel: “What? But….how did you….that….that’s impossible!!”
Ashley: “How does he know about the Reapers?”
Miranda: “Did he say that his connection with this galaxy runs deep? I wonder what that could mean?”
Mordin still looked into his Omni-tool, he began to develop a look of suspicion on his face. Soon enough, the entity faded away and the sky was clear once more. Everyone stood by, stunned by what they heard. They descended back towards the others.
Miranda: “So….that vigilante knows the Reapers….but….how…how is that possible?”
Ashley: “Hmmmm….something tells me we’re dealing with something more than just a vigilante gone horribly rogue. I have a bad feeling about this….”
Mordin was still on his Omni-tool.
Ashley: “Let’s get back to the Normandy, everyone. We….we have a lot to think about.”
Everyone did just that. The girls eventually converted back to their regular forms.
The group returned with the rest who were with the Normandy. There, they were approached by the rest of the group.
EDI: “Welcome back.”
Jacob: “It’s good to see you guys made it back safely.”
Ashley: “Yeah, we did.”
Zaeed: “Thank God that you did, when we saw that the sky had gone dark, we were worried sick.”
Jewel: “Yeah, that was tough, but we made it through OK….at least….”
Miranda: “I’m not sure if you guys caught on, but….”
Jacob: “Yeah, we did. That vigilante apparently knew about the Reapers.”
Miranda: “So, you did hear.”
Zaeed: “How could we not? That thing was yelling so loud, I’m pretty sure everyone on Earth heard what it just said.”
Samara: “This is indeed very worrisome.”
Ashley: “Yeah….it is….”
Jacob: “I’m assuming that the rest of the group are out hiding away those keys somewhere throughout the entire galaxy.”
Ashley: “That’s right. They’ll return as soon as they’re done.”
Jacob: “Well, that’s a relief. The sooner we hide away those keys, the more secure I’ll feel.”
Jewel: “I sure hope Garrus and the others are doing OK out there. I don’t want anything to happen to them on our behalf.”
Ashley: “Don’t worry about them, they’ll be fine out there. They’re more than capable of taking care of themselves and they’re some of the best on our squad.”
Jewel: “Well…if you say so, but still…”
Star: “It will take everything they’ve got to keep themselves safe out there.”
Jacob: “Yeah, considering that they’ll be out there for several hours.”
Jewel looked up, worried.
Jewel: “Garrus, please come back safely.”
Jacob looked back towards the sky where the entity was seen.
Star: “By the way, how has that lab been coming along? I really want it ready so that Dr. Solus can start doing stuff in it.”
Jacob: “It’s still a work in progress, Star. We did a lot but we still have some ways to go.”
Star: “Hm! Man, if we could only find some way to really speed this up.”
Samara: “Hmm….perhaps the young Fayelons could help out with some of the work.”
Star: “Really!?! Can I!?!”
Jacob: “Well….since you’re so eager to lend a hand, then I suppose you can.”
Star: “Alright!!! I’ll get to it right away!!”
She grabbed Mordin by the hand and ran off back to the Normandy with him. Everyone watched as this was taking place.
EDI: “Um…..wow….she….seems eager.”
James: “I know, things will be very interesting with her around.”
Aera: “Oh, you have no idea.”
Jewel: “Come on, I think the maintenance crew could use a few extra hands, too.”
Miranda: “Yeah, I agree with Jewel. We should help out a bit.”
Joker: “Sure. OK.”
The group made their way towards the Normandy.
Grunt: “Right behind you guys.”
As they made their way into the Normandy, the group broke apart and went into different directions. They assisted each of the people working within the different sections as well as monitoring the progress. The girls seemed very happy to help. Star had a chance to walk into the lab in progress and was elated with what she saw. It was much more bright with the head lamps reinstalled. The table also received some remodifying. Her eyes sparkled just like the anime character she was made out to be.
Star: “It’s……glorious…!!!!!!”
Mordin, standing right beside, her looked at her with, not knowing how to feel at that moment. She turned towards him and smiled.
Star: “Well? Is it not to your liking, Dr.?”
Mordin: “Hm….looks much like how it was before the previous renovations. Impressive.”
Star: “I know, right? Isn’t this exciting!?! You have your own personal space back!!!”
Mordin: “Personal space, not my biggest concerns. A lab in which I can help you girls out, plenty adequate. Your satisfaction more important than mine. Also, great place for me to research a lot of these mysterious readings, the….magical energy as we have just recently discovered.”
Star: “Yeah, how interesting that there’s magical energy all over this entire galaxy. We’ve never heard of incidences like this.”
Mordin: “Oh? Is that so? No traces of mystical energy within other galaxies?”
Star: “None that we know about. We’ve never even noticed anything like that. No other realm within the universe has such magical traces like this. At least….nothing like this…It’s….unusual…”
Mordin: “Hmmm….curious. Only hope that I am able to find the reason behind this.”
Star: “I hope so….hmm….so many mysteries. I only hope that…the answers that are able to find don’t lead to more confusing questions…”
Mordin: “Possibility of that always probable, however, the ongoing nature of mysteries such as these is what makes these enjoyable. (sniff) Should truly be exciting.”
Star: “Wow, you sure are fascinating, Dr. Solus. That’s what I like about you. I’m so looking forward to working with you.”
Mordin: “As am I, Star. You and your friends truly fascinating for reasons other than your magical abilities. Fascinated with you as a person. Truly will enjoy your company.”
They both smiled at each other.
Within much time, the renovations were completed. Eventually, the Normandy was ready to lift off. The crew stood before the admiral, the prime minister and several other people.
Hackett: “Well, it has been an honor to meet you girls.”
Jewel: “Um…same here.”
Hackett: “I wish all of you the best of luck in finding the truth behind these mysterious magical readings.”
Aera: “Yeah, thanks, we’re going to need it.”
Ashley: “We’ll keep in touch, admiral.”
Hackett: “I’ll hold you to it, Lt. Commander. Report back any new findings. I want to be able to hear every detail of your findings.”
Mordin: “Certainly. Will report anything if I find them significant.”
Prime Minister: “Safe travels out there. Be extra careful of anything hostile.”
Jewel: “Yeah, sure, we’ll keep that in mind.”
Star: “See ya later, you guys!”
The crew went back on to the ship. It took off and left the Earth with everyone standing around watching giving a salute, including the admiral.
Hackett: “Best of luck in your fight, Fayelons. We’re all counting on you girls and you as well, Normandy crew.”

Episode 10-Analyzation

Within much time after leaving Earth, the Normandy made its way to the nearby mass relay and left the star system. They made their way through space. Jewel was staring out a window at one of the observation rooms. She did this for an extensive period of time, worried about something. The rest of her friends stood by and looked towards her. Within much time, she became surprised, spotting something that immediately grabbed her attention. From directly outside, she saw 5 cargo ships approaching them.

Jewel: “They’re back!!!”
She rushed out of the room as fast as she could with everyone else following after her.
Everyone arrived within the cargo bay. There, the 5 cargo ships landed. Everyone stood, eagerly waiting for each one to open up. From there, they did, but one at a time. Liara was the first to be seen, then Tali, followed by Javik, Wrex and of course, Garrus. A look of relief appeared on Jewel’s face.
Jewel: “Garrus!!”
She rushed over to him as fast as she could. Jewel placed her arms around him and embraced him closely.
Jewel: “I’m so glad to see you back!! I was so worried about you!!”
Garrus did the same with her. Jewel then pulled back from him as he placed his hands on her shoulders.
Garrus: “You don’t need to worry about me. I’m OK, really.”
Jewel smiled at him. She then grabbed his hand and walked off the shuttle with him and back to the others. Wrex, Javik, Tali and Liara did the same. Aera and Splash rushed up to Tali and Liara. Splash and Liara grabbed each other’s hands as they smiled cheerfully at each other. Aera stood in front of Tali with a smile on her face. Star walked up to Javik.
Star: “So, did you manage to find a good place to hide that piece of the key that I gave you?”
Javik: “Not to worry, Star. I was able to find a good place where no one will be able to locate it, much less reach.”
Star: “Good! You better! Or else!!!”
Javik: “Your threats are validated.”
Star walked away from Javik. Flare was seen standing near Wrex and Grunt.
Flare: “So, what about you? Were you able to hide that other piece that I have given you?”
Wrex: “Not to worry, I have found exactly where I wanted to hide that key away.”
He looked at Grunt and smiled as he began to chuckle. Grunt then did the same and they both chuckled with each other. Flare had a confused and concerned look on her face. Everyone else looked at the two krogan, as much concerned and confused as Flare.
Jewel: “So, where to next?”
Ashley: “Our next destination is Grissom Academy.”
Garrus: “Grissom Academy? You don’t mean…?”
Ashley: “Yes, I mean exactly what I think you do. I’ve gotten in touch with Kahlee Sanders. I informed her about you girls and said that she would like to meet with you, and….also…Jack.”
The Normandy crew were startled and remained speechless for a time.
ordin: “Oh! Might be problematic.”
Star: “Jack? Who’s Jack?”
Miranda: “Someone that we know very well. She….uh….”
Jewel: “Is she OK? You know, for us to meet with.”
Miranda: “Um….well….”
Liara: “I’m sure she would be very happy to meet you girls.”
Miranda: “Oh, I’m sure she would, but…let’s just hope she’s on good terms with them.”
Tali: “Unlike you?”
Miranda: “We still have our fallouts, but they’re not as bad as our first meeting.”
Garrus: “But they’re not great, either.”
Miranda: “I know.”
Mordin: “Hm…perhaps…not as bad as I may fear. Might have better rapport with these girls.”
Garrus: “Most likely yes. I hope…”
Splash: “Are you sure that it’s OK for us to meet this Jack?”
Ashley: “Don’t worry about that, girls, I spoke with Jack personally, she said that she would be thrilled to meet you and nothing else.”
Jewel: “I hope not.”
Star: “Well then, in the meantime, I say we take care of a few things while we’re on our way to this Grissom Academy, so without any further delay, let’s get to it!!”
She grabbed on to both Garrus and Mordin by their hands and pulled them off, both of them had startled looks on their faces as did everyone else watching this.
Liara: “Something tells me we’ll need to get use to that.”
Area: “With how Star is, yeah, that would be the case.”
Everyone else followed after Star as she continued on.
Star eventually arrived with Garrus and Mordin back in the lab. She then let go of both of their hands as she marveled at the newly-modified room.
Star: “Wow…isn’t it just glorious?”
Garrus took some time to look around the entire room.
Garrus: “I…can see you guys have made some changes here, but….it pretty much looks the same.”
Star: “Yep! We remodified the room a bit. It’s somewhat like what it used to have been but there are clearly plenty of differences. Still, it’s going to be one amazing place where we can do research and stuff.”
Garrus: “I…guess…?”
Soon enough, the other arrived.
Liara: “Hm, seems as though Star was eager to show you the newly modified room.”
They soon noticed the others.
Jewel: “We’ve spent a lot of time doing some of the remodeling as well as some of the other work that needed to be done on the Normandy. So, what do you think?”
Garrus: “I….”
He looked back towards the rest of the room for a bit.
Garrus: “I can see that you kept the room pretty much the same with the exception of a few obvious changes.”
Ashley: “We tried to make the room somewhat like it was before it was handed over to the Alliance but we also decided to have it be a conference room so that we can talk about any intel regarding any research that will be done here.”
Garrus: “You didn’t bring it back to being the tech lab that it use to have been?”
Miranda: “We were planning on doing that, but the doctor suggested to leave it as is but to bring back some of the equipment that he had here. As Ashley mentioned, he would like to have it so he could brief all of us on what he has found out during his research.”
Garrus: “Hm, I’m guessing this was Star’s idea.”
Aera: “Yeah, she was the one who suggested it, then Dr. Solus decided that it was a great idea. He felt that this equipment was more useful for studying our powers than what you guys had here before.”
Splash: “And besides, what better place for Dr. Solus to brief us about his findings?”
Star: “Exactly!”
Jewel: “Alright, you guys, we have a lot that we need to discuss regarding these findings.”
Star: “Of course. Now then, shall we?”
Star and Mordin walked towards the back end of the table. As soon as they reached the table, Star climbed up and sat down right near Mordin with her feet hanging off the inner part of the table. Mordin went on his Omni-tool which activated a console from within the table and got to work on it. Everyone else gathered on the other side of the table.
Star: “While Dr. Solus and I were testing the equipment, he uploaded some of the data from scanning our powers on to the computer system that was built into this table. Check out what we were able to come up with.”
From the hollowed area of the table where a hologram was projected, there were several images that were projected. They consisted of several streams that were different colors. There were several that were lined up that were different colors with a few that had 2 different colored streams swirling together. The colors of the streams were orange, yellow and lavender with the streams that were swirling together being 2 which one was green and another was brown with another pair of streams swirling together being aqua blue and periwinkle. There was also a stream above those that was white and another below them that was black.
Liara: “Oh!”
Javik: “Hmph! What exactly are we looking at?”
Tali: “Are these….holographic images….the different forms of magical energy?”
Star: “Yes! That’s exactly right. Each color represents a different type of magic.”
Liara: “I presume the white stream above the rest of the image represents Light magic and black stream on the bottom represents Dark magic.”
Mordin: “Of course. Exactly that, both major sources of magic, as the girls have informed us.”
Tali: “And I’m guessing the rest of these streams of magical energy represents each of the girls’ powers.”
Mordin: “Correct.”
Ashley: “It’s not so hard to figure out which stream of power belongs to which girl.”
Liara: “Yes, these must represent each elemental power. It’s clearly indicated by their color.”
Star: “Absolutely.”
Liara: “There are a few things about this that I’m still confused about. First off, if the white stream represents Light magic and Star’s power is Light magic, then why are both of these streams different colors?”
Star: “Well, to put it simply, my form of Light magic is much more subtle than the stream above it. That Light magic is a sort of….sacred power. My kind is able to wield that kind of power but…we are forbidden from ever making our powers reach that same intensity.”
Tali: “And why is that?”
Jewel: “We believe that the more intense form of Light magic is from a deity. We’re not exactly sure of such a thing, but those who believe in such worship it, like the Divine bringer of Light.”
Aera: “Yeah, some of us believe that while others think of it as just some incredibly powerful form of matter that’s not necessarily created by anyone.”
Flare: “Regardless, the source of Light magic is one that is not taken lightly. No pun intended.”
Aera: “Thank you, Flare!”
Splash: “That was a close one.”
Star: “Although, we have no way of making ourselves that powerful even if we wanted to. It’s not like some haven’t tried. It’s a lot of magical power to conceive. So, my kind just came up with our own form of Light magic that we can utilize.”
Mordin: “Indeed, Star’s Light powers confirmed to be much more subtle than the Light magic that is displayed above, hence why they are different colors.”
Garrus: “But aren’t they the same kind of magic regardless of intensity?”
Mordin: “Not really. Intensity very important, by the way. Absolute significant difference between that and Star’s powers.”
Garrus: “OK! I get it! They’re 2 different forms of Light magic.”
Miranda: “It’s funny how they’re not one in the same.”
Mordin: “Not particularly, but do share some connections with one another as well as the other forms of magical powers.”
Ashley: “Wait, other forms of magic?”
Mordin: “Yes, but more on that some other time. Still analyzing that data.”
Aera: “Yes, of course. We…still need to cover the other types of magic?”
Miranda: “So, what about Dark magic?”
Mordin stayed quiet for a bit.
Mordin: “Uncertain. A mysterious form of magical energy. Even the girls, as well as the rest of their kind know very little about it.”
Jewel: “It’s something that we still haven’t completely figured out, but there have been some legends as to what it could be. Some say it’s a malevolent force, others say it’s another form of matter that’s not anything that’s alive. We really have no idea of knowing.”
Liara: “Have you tried asking?”
Jewel: “We have, but….”
Aera: “Whenever we do, everyone that we have asked regards it as something we shouldn’t be asking about and in a non-subtle way.”
Star: “Heh, tell me about it. Everytime we even express some curiosity, so far, everyone we have asked would snap at us as though it’s a forbidden topic!”
Jacob: “But there’s this Dark entity that’s being controlled by your vigilante. What about that?”
The girls sulked and remained silent for a bit.
Jacob: “Umm….sorry, I…I didn’t mean to…”
Aera: “No…it’s OK, Jacob, it’s just….this has not been easy for us to handle….”
Thane: “I would think so, considering that you girls are still just children.”
Miranda: “Well, all the more reason why we need to help you through this.”
Garrus: “Yeah, I agree.”
Jewel lifted her head back up and smiled.
Jewel: “Thank you, everyone, you guys really have been the first to actually step up and help us out with this.”
Everyone stood by silently for a bit, they did seem touched. Although, some had shown concerned looks on their faces.
Splash: “Alright! So, are we still in the mood to discuss our powers?”
Miranda: “Yes, of course. Let’s continue on with that.”
Ashley: “So, we are very well aware of the different streams of magic that represents the other elemental power, such as the pyromancers, the photokinetics, the aeromancers…”
Garrus: “But what about this other form of power?”
Garrus points to the green and brown streams swirling together.
Garrus: “What’s with these 2 different colors?”
Miranda: “Hm…I’m guessing that represents Jewel’s power, but what’s with these being 2 different colors?”
Mordin: “Ah, an excellent question. Jewel has clarified that this is a special trait to her kind. One represents the regular Geokinetic power while the other represents her special kind of ability.”
Liara: “You mean the Gemma Kinetic power?”
Mordin: “Yes, correct. Care to fill them in on this, Jewel?”
Jewel: “Well, some of us Geomancers have that special Gemma Kinetic power.”
Garrus: “You mean not all Geomancers are Gemma Kinetics?”
Jewel: “That’s right. It’s a…special kind of power that we understand and have learned to utilize. Some of us are born with this unique and special magical power, but for those of us who don’t have it, we’re just simple Geomancers. But even those with just a tiny trace of it can learn how to use that power with just enough practice and training. I should know. I lived that.”
Miranda: “That’s incredible. You must have worked hard to harness that power into becoming so strong.”
Jewel: “Yes…when I found out that I had it, it became my desire to harness that potential and use it. It was my dream and I made it happen, but not without so many hardships.”
Jewel sulked, everyone else looked at her, concerned.
Ashley: “You must have endured a lot of trials to get your powers to where they are now.”
Jewel: “That would be an understatement….”
Thane: “Very often, it’s our hardships that help to strengthen and fortify our skills and abilities.”
Miranda: “Some of us know that better than others.”
Jewel: Heh, well, if that’s the case, then I’ve had too many that would strengthen my powers.”
Aera: “That’s odd, considering that so many of them tried to cripple you and your abilities.”
Jewel: “Yeah….I know….but…..I wonder…..hmmmm….”
Jewel stood silent for a bit as she thought.
Miranda: “What is it, Jewel?”
Jewel: “Huh? Oh….no…it’s nothing…just….thinking, that’s all….anyway, back to the subject of the rest of our powers.”
Splash: “Yes, of course, how could we forget the best one of all?”
Ashley: “You mean your powers over water?”
Splash: “Yep, that’s right, it’s truly the best of them all, at least in my opinion.”
Garrus: “Of course you would think that way, considering how you are with fish.”
Splash: “Hey! Don’t you dare pick on my aquatic brethren!!!”
Garrus: “Wouldn’t dream of it. Good thing we learned that lesson the easy way.”
Tali: “You keep calling fish your brethren. Are all aquamancers like this?”
Aera: “Ummm….not really…”
Splash: “Well, I’m more than just a simple aquamancer. As a matter of fact, I am a mermaid!!”
Everyone stood by and gave out awkward looks as they stared at her for a bit then looked at each other the same way.
Ashley: “I-is she really?”
Aera: “No, she’s not, she just likes to think that way.”
Javik: “Hm, so she must be deluded, then.”
Aera: “Umm….it’s more complicated than that, actually. It’s a long story.”
Tali: “I don’t even know if I want to hear that story.”
Flare: “Ahem. Let’s not lose focus and get back to what we’re trying to discuss here.”
Splash: “Oh! Right! I almost forgot! My powers. My aquakinetic abilities.”
Ashley: “Right, let’s get on that before we get sidetracked again.”
Mordin: “An interesting subject. The ability to control water. Mostly revolves around liquid but does consist of not just liquid. Others forms of water.”
Tali: “You must be referring to ice.”
Garrus: “Makes sense considering that ice IS frozen water.”
Mordin: “Exactly. Some aquamancers can utilize ice while others purely control water.”
Miranda: “Yes, I do remember seeing that some aquamancers can also be cryokinetics. But despite the fact that ice is frozen water, it’s usually identified as its own element separate from water, with some magic users being purely cryokinetics as opposed to those who have control over all forms of water.”
Jacob: “I’m guessing that aquakinetic Fayelons also can utilize the power over ice.”
Splash: “That’s right and I’m one of them. It is a very tough ability to use, but with just enough training, it can be done.”
Flare: “Some aquamancers choose to be just that others revert to becoming purely ice wielders. It’s part of their nature.”
Garrus: “I’m guessing Splash prefers water over ice.”
Aera: “That would be too obvious.”
Splash: “It’s true, I love water more than ice, but conjuring ice can come in very handy during combat, so I would use it whenever I need to. It also helps with protecting my fishy brethren.”
Garrus: “I don’t think I would want to know the details behind that.”
Aera: “No, you wouldn’t.”
Ashley: “Does some of the aquamancers becoming pure cryokinetics cause problems amongst your people, Splash?”
Splash: “Ummm…..sometimes it does. They hardly escalate too much as far as I can tell, but I don’t always pay attention.”
Garrus: “Um…is that true?”
Aera: “Not completely. Some aquamancers and cryokinetics are perfectly fine with mixing, but there is some tension between the 2 sides.”
Flare: “Yes, indeed, we have seen some bitter conflicts between the 2, perhaps more often than necessary.”
Star: “Yeah, it’s almost like some want to start some sort of war between each other. Some prefer to stay out of it, but the 2 different sides seem almost insistent on escalating it, especially with those who prefer to mix and mingle with each other just fine.”
Tali: “But what of those who choose to wield both water and ice?”
Aera: “There are plenty who are willing to live with them, as well, but those that are like super adamant and fixated on their opinions about their powers, well…things do get tense. All 3 sides are not completely in the right about their thoughts and opinions.”
Flare: “Indeed, there is an imbalance between the 3 factors. The aquamancers and cryokinetics that are adamant about their powers look towards those that wield both with much contempt while those that wield both have a tendency to look down at the others as though they are inferior, crude and narrow-minded. It is an infuriating conflict.”
Tali: “Crude would be putting it likely. I’m guessing that those who are willing to live with whatever powers they choose to have are looked at with even more contempt.”
Aera: “Stupidly, yes. They have a very hard time understanding how some are willing to live with anyone who has different preferences to magical power. We choose to avoid those kinds of conflicts; they’re idiotic and a waste of our time.”
Garrus: “That’s probably the smartest thing to do with situations like those.”
Liara: “Splash, your thoughts on this?”
Splash: “To be honest, I don’t care who wields what power or who wants to become what; we’re all Fayelons, nonetheless. That’s all that matters to me. Besides, my best friends are nowhere near my field of magic wielding, so why should I care about who wants to wield water or ice or whatever?”
Liara: “That’s a positive way of thinking and I do agree with you. Water, ice, jewelry; none of that matters. I think all of you are amazing and not just because of your powers.”
All the girls smiled. However, Garrus looked towards Jewel, concerned.
Garrus: “Hmm…….”
Star: “Well, that pretty much covers all that we have for now. There’s still lots more work to do.”
Mordin: “Yes, indeed, aware that these are not all the magical abilities that there are to look into. Still feel that there are lots more to it.”
Liara: “If only there was some way to obtain more data about you girls and your realm.”
Jewel: “Well….there is….one other way….”
She reached behind herself and pulled out what looked like a jewelry box.
Garrus: “A jewelry box?”
She opened that box. Inside it contained lots of jewels of different shapes and color.
Garrus: “Full of….jewels….that should have been apparent.”
Liara: “Wait! Those are Intel Crystals, aren’t they?”
Jewel nodded slowly.
Star: “Hold on, Jewel! Isn’t that the same box that was given to you by….?”
Jewel: “Yes, the very same.”
Aera: “Jewel, are you sure about this? I mean, we agreed to never tell or show anyone this. Do you really believe….?”
Jewel: “Yes, I do!!! We can trust them with this. It’s OK.”
Everyone stood around staring at the Jewel and her box for a bit. The girls seemed concerned.
Flare: “Well…if you insist on this, then….OK.”
Splash: “You know that we’re willing to support whatever it is that you want to do and if you feel that way, then we’re with you. Besides, I trust these guys, too.”
Star: “Same here, I know that Dr. Solus and the rest of these Normandy guys would never do anything with them that we wouldn’t want them to.”
Aera: “Well….if you say so. I do trust your judgment even if it’s not always correct.”
Jewel: “That’s fine. Whose judgment is ever 100% correct?”
Aera: “Exactly.”
Liara: “Can I take a look at those?”
Jewel went over and handed the box to Liara. She looked into the box for a bit at the jewelry.
Liara: “Hmm…..these jewels must have a wealth of so much information involving your realm. Who was it that gave you this box?”
Jewel: “Umm…….”
She hesitated.
Liara: “It’s OK, you don’t need to answer that right away. I’m sure it’s not important at the moment. I just wonder how we’ll be able to extract whatever Intel could be in these jewels.”
Mordin: “Hmm…perhaps will come up with a special analyzation program that can extract the information from within those crystals. Just need to figure out how they work.”
Jewel: “Intel Crystals are one of our more sacred and mysterious Gemma Kinetic powers. We are able to insert memories, knowledge and such with one simple touch. They can store away so much and can send out that kind of information with just a simple touch.”
Liara: “Really? Is that how these crystals actually work?”
Jewel: “Yep. We….don’t fully understand how or why they do, we just know that it’s what they’re able to do.”
Garrus: “A simple touch and everything within those crystals are placed within our minds? That’s an incredible feature.”
Tali: “Wish we had something like that. Nothing we can come up with could do that, even the salarians don’t know how to make something like that.”
Garrus: “Exactly, and they are heavily regarded for their technological advances.”
Jewel: “I see. Well, you’re more than welcome to look into what information is in them, just be careful not to touch too many of them at once; all of intel can flood your mind and can cause you a major headache.”
Liara: “Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps you can help me with this since you know how to use these crystals.”
Jewel: “I’d be happy to. We Gemma Kinetics know how to handle Intel Crystals without activating their functions.”
Liara: “Well, all the more reason why I need your help with this.”
Jewel: “I was thinking the same thing.”
They smiled at each other. Garrus had a concerned look on his face, however.
Garrus: “Hmmm…..”
Tali: “What’s wrong, Garrus?”
Garrus: “Something about this seems….suspicious. Who gave Jewel that box? Why fill it with so many Intel Crystals? I get the feeling that there’s something not right here.”
Tali: “I see what you mean, but who knows what could be in those crystals?”
Garrus: “True, though Jewel feels that they consist of important intel regarding their realm. Why give away so much important intel to a young teenage girl?”
Tali: “Yeah, you have a point. This is suspicious. It makes me wonder what kind of people are part of their realm.”
Garrus: “This whole thing reeks of suspicion from the very beginning. I don’t like this one bit and I have a feeling that there are far worse things going on, something other than the vigilante.”
Tali: “What do you think it could be?”
Garrus stayed silent, he then looked towards the holographic image of the black stream that represented Dark magic in a tense and suspicious manner.

Episode 11-Jack

Within some time, the different members split into small groups and got to work on different things. Jewel was with Liara, sifting through all of the information within the Intel Crystals with Ashley and Garrus overlooking them. Star stayed with Mordin, of course, as he continued looking through the data he collected on the girls’ powers. Everyone else pretty much did their own things for a time. Splash went back to the Commander’s quarters to spend the next few hours staring at his fish tank. No one was surprised by that.

A few hours later, they arrived at Grissom Academy. Everyone gathered by a massive, open window to look out at it.
Ashley: “There is it, girls, Grissom Academy. Are you ready to introduce yourselves?”
The girls continued looking out at the window, not knowing what to say next.
Jewel: “Umm….I guess…”
Liara: “Don’t worry, we’ll be with you throughout all of this.”
Garrus: “Yeah, count on it.”
Star: “Oh, I don’t doubt that one bit. Aren’t you going to come with us, Dr. Solus?”
Mordin: “Of course, much to look into, another great place for you to practice your powers, I believe.”
Aera: “Is it really?”
Ashley: “Oh, I think as though it would be.”
Miranda: “Assuming Jack makes them feel welcome. One thing for certain: I know that she would welcome them more than me.”
Tali: “Oh, boy, is that true?”
Jewel continued to look out at the window.
Soon enough, the Normandy docked itself at the academy. The girls, along with several members of the Normandy consisting of Ashley, Miranda, Liara, Garrus, Mordin, Tali and EDI stepped out with them. There, they were approached by Kahlee Sanders.
Kahlee: “Welcome back, Normandy crew. It’s so good to see all of you again.”
Ashley: “It’s good to see you, too. How has the academy been holding up during the aftermath of the Reaper Invasion?”
Kahlee: “Things have been tough but our students can and have endured. Everyone’s been sticking together to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives.”
Liara: “That’s great news.”
EDI: “I can see that you have made a lot of improvements since the last time we were here.”
Kahlee: “Yes, we have. It really has been a lot of hard work and I’m really proud of all of our students. Some of the newcomers of our school have also pitched in to help with the repairs.”
Miranda: “Hm, impressive.”
Kahlee then noticed the girls.
Kahlee: “So, these must be the girls that I’ve heard so much about; the….Fayelons, as they’re called?”
Ashley: “That’s right, this is Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera and Splash.”
Jewel: “Hello…”
Splash: “Good to meet you.”
Star: “Hi!”
Kahlee: “Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you girls. Jack has been very eager to meet you as well.”
Aera: “This….Jack person…she’s OK, right? I don’t like having her wail on us or whatever.”
Kahlee: “Not to worry. She has been very excited ever since she heard about the news involving you girls. She won’t do anything to you that upset you.”
Star: “I sure hope so.”
Jewel: “Well, regardless, let’s meet her, anyway, just to see what she’s like.”
Flare: “Indeed, we must. I am curious to know what kind of person she is.”
Kahlee: “If you would, please follow me. She’s in the middle of teaching a class right now, but she will meet with you once she is finished.”
Star: “Sure, let’s go.”
The group followed Kahlee through the facility.
They continued on their way through, the girls looked around at everything, amazed by what they were seeing.
Kahlee: “So, how has Commander Shepard been doing?”
Ashley: “He’s the same as always…nothing has changed, so far.”
EDI: “We have been monitoring Shepard constantly as a precaution to ensure that there are to be no changes that would be detrimental to his recovery.”
Kahlee: “I see….and the same with Anderson?”
Ashley: “Yes, still no changes with him.”
Kahlee sulked a little.
Liara: “We are all sad and worried for the both of them, especially Shepard, but we are confident that things will change. Maybe not now, but eventually.”
Kahlee: “Yes, I…I feel that way, too. I just know that they’ll both pull through.”
Miranda: “We all do….somehow.”
Kahlee: “By the way, the commander’s cousin stopped by a while ago. We had a nice chat. She’s still worried about her cousin, but she’s hanging there.”
Garrus had shifted his eyes a little, he seemed almost concerned.
Liara: “Yes, we understand that. They are close, after all. By the way, how has she been doing?”
Kahlee: “She keeps busy, it’s been her way of dealing with what had been happening. She’s been meaning to meet with all of you again.”
Garrus turned his head towards Kahlee, almost startled.
Liara: “We’ve also been looking forward to seeing her again. The admiral has made certain to keep her preoccupied as a way of keeping her mind off of…her cousin….”
Kahlee: “Yes, he really doesn’t want her to worry too much about him. He’s a good man.”
Liara: “Indeed.”
Tali: “I hope we really do have the chance to see her again. I would look forward to that.”
Ashley: “Yeah, we all do.”
Garrus dropped his head, almost saddened, Mordin kind of took notice of this.
Soon enough, they arrived at where Jack was.
Kahlee: “Here we are.”
Upon arriving, they saw Jack teaching an entire class of teenagers.
Miranda: “Wow, she’s just as dedicated to her students as always.”
Kahlee: “That’s right.”
Miranda: “Hm, I never thought I’d see the day when Jack would become an instructor to young adolescents, much less a good influence on them.”
Tali: “Oh, don’t start that again, Miranda.”
Miranda: “What? It’s the truth and you guys know it.”
Tali: “Yeah, that may be, but that doesn’t justify you being harsh about it.”
Miranda: “Well, the truth can be harsh. I’m just telling it as it is.”
Tali: “Oh, Keelah, no wonder why the 2 of you still don’t get along.”
At that moment, Jack looked over and noticed them. She was almost startled to see them.
Jack: “Alright, everyone. That’s enough for now. Let’s take a break.”
She stopped her lessons and walked over towards the group.
Ashley: “Good to see you again, Jack.”
Jack: “Same to you, Williams. Still taking charge of the Normandy?”
Ashley: “Yes, it’s….the least I can do…”
Jack: “Still not the same without Shepard, is it?”
Ashley: “No…I can never be Shepard, or even the ship and its crew the same way.”
Jack: “So, don’t be Shepard. You’re doing fine.”
Ashley let out a petite smile at Jack.
Ashley: “Thanks, Jack.”
Jack smiled back. She then looked towards Miranda.
Jack: “Oh! You again? Since when did you start joining the Normandy?”
Miranda: “Since the recent events. And it’s good to see you, too.”
Jack: “Yeah, yeah, keep being smug, Cerberus cheerleader.”
Liara: “Alright, break if off before you start getting into it again.”
Jack: “Yeah, sure, whatever. So, I heard something about you guys bringing along a bunch of magical girls or whatever.”
Ashley: “Yeah, we did, they’re right here, actually.”
She pointed her towards the girls.
Ashley: “This is Jewel, Flare, Star, Aera and Splash.”
Jack took notice of the girls almost immediately. She seemed a little shocked as she saw them.
Jack: “Oh, my god….they’re….so young.”
A tense look grew on her face as she turned back towards her class.
Jack: “Listen up, everyone. I want all of you to be on your best behavior and treat these girls with respect. If I see any one of you so much as even glare at them, I have you receive a severe right up and report it to your parents. Is that understood!?!”
Student: “Yes, ma’am! Wouldn’t dream of it!”
Jack: “Good! You better not!”
Miranda: “Wow, I’m impressed. You really have become quite the mature adult figure of this school. I’m glad I was wrong about you not growing out of some of your crappy behavior.”
Jack: “Hey! If you’re going to give out a compliment, do it correctly!!”
Miranda: “My compliments are still not sufficient to your standards?”
Jack: “Perhaps they would be if you didn’t sound like you’re still trying to insult me.”
Aera: “That’s enough. Do we need to separate you guys?”
Everyone looked at Aera, almost startled.
Miranda: “Hm, you know, she’s right. Let’s stop this, for their sake.”
Jack: “Yeah, fine, but only for them, not for you.”
Miranda: “That’s fine, I couldn’t care any less about that.”
Tali: “Not bad, Aera.”
Ashley: “I have to admit, I couldn’t have said it better myself.”
Aera: “Yeah, well, I just couldn’t stand seeing them go at it. I don’t care about what squabbles they had in the past, I just wanted it to stop.”
Tali: “Easier said than done.”
Star: “So, shall we get on to talk about a few things? We heard that you’ve been very eager to meet us.”
Jack: “Uh, yeah, absolutely. I heard about you girls, that you were some sort of magical beings like in anime or something.”
Aera: “This again?”
Star: “I find it funny how we’re being compared to fictional characters constantly, almost as though that’s all they could understand about us.”
Splash: “Yeah, in fact, if we didn’t know any better, I would say that we’re also….”
Aera: “Shut it, Splash!”
Jack: “Sorry, I’m not insulting you in any way, am I?”
Jewel: “Not at all, this is all brand new to us. The concept of “fiction” is so foriegn.”
Garrus: “Really? You girls don’t have any fictional stories being told in your realm?”
The girls exchanged looks with one another then looked at him or shook their heads.
Garrus: “No books?”
They shook their heads.
Garrus: “No shows? Or plays?”
They shook their heads again.
Garrus: “Not even bedtime stories?”
They shook their heads once again.
Garrus: “So, basically every story ever told to you guys in your realm? No fiction, at all?”
Star: “Nothing like that. In fact….we hardly ever have done anything involving storytelling.”
Garrus: “No storytelling of any kind? That is really weird.”
Liara: “I don’t believe it. So, how do you guys entertain yourselves?”
Star: “Well….we live in a pretty interesting world. Some places are better than others. We have so many memories; some better than others.”
Aera: “Oh, boy is that true?”
Garrus: “You do realize that telling about things that you remember is a form of storytelling, right?”
Star: “Huh, never really thought about it.”
Aera: “The concept of stories in general is still very new to us, which, we know, us being a sort of “fairy tale” connects with you people and your “stories” and whatever.”
Jack: “You girls are weird, but you know what? I like you already. I’m so glad to be meeting you.”
Jewel: “Well….in spite of what we have been presented so far, we’re glad to meet you, too. You really are trying to leave a good impression on us, which is more than I can say about many back at home.”
Jack: “Hm, is that so?”
The Normandy crew stared at the girls in a concerned manner. Garrus and Tali exchanged those same kinds of looks with each other.
Jack: “Well, even though some of us may not exactly be on good terms with each other, we’ll be willing to do everything we can to remain on your good terms.”
Jewel: “We appreciate that.”
Flare: “Yes, indeed, we are grateful for your hospitality and how good you have been to us.”
Star: “And don’t worry about comparing us to your fairy tales. I’m sure that they will still be a learning experience for us.”
Garrus: “That is just as much true for you as it is for us.”
EDI: “It’s clear we still have so much to learn about your realm. This truly taught us that there is still much that we haven’t figured out about you girls or how your homes are like.”
Liara: “Well, I think we’ll be able to learn all that we can from those Intel Crystals from that jewelry box. At the moment, Glyph is still figuring out how to penetrate the data from within them and upload them to our computers.”
Jewel: “He would only be able to learn so much from them remaining inactive.”
EDI: “Some of the crew members back on the Normandy have offered to try and utilize those Intel Crystals. Data on their usage is already being analyzed. We should have figured out some things by the time we’re done here.”
Jewel: “Sounds good. Perhaps I’ll finally be able to talk a lot about how our magical jewels work.”
Flare smiled at her in a compassionate manner, almost as though she knew something.
Kahlee: “In the meantime, we still have so much to discuss while we make our way through this entire place.”
Ashley: “Certainly. It’s been a long time since we were here. In fact, this place was still being overrun by Cerberus the last time we were here, so I really would like to check out how much this place has recovered since then.”
Kahlee: “I would be glad to let you have a look around. There is still much we haven’t recovered from, but we have healed quite a lot.”
Garrus: “So, how has Cerberus been doing after it’s been disbanded?”
Miranda was heard laughing.
Kahlee: “Obviously, not very well, considering that it doesn’t exist anymore.”
Jack: “Good! The a******* had it coming for a long time!!”
Ashley: “I couldn’t agree more.”
Splash: “Um…what was Cerberus?”
The crew members looked at Splash.
Ashley: “We’ll talk about it as we make our way through here.”
Jack: “No way you’re leaving me out of this!! I still have a lot about that corporation that I still want to complain about!!”
Miranda: “Don’t let us stop you. It’s probably the only thing that we would agree on.”
Jack: “Yeah, you may be right about that, Cerberus cheerleader!!”
Miranda: “Ex-Cerberus, mind you and it’s been like that since before they disbanded.”
They walked out of the chamber and continued on.
Jack: “I’d like to believe that Shepard played a huge part in that.”
Miranda: “True, but I don’t think he deserves all the credit.”
Jack: “Surprisingly, I also don’t believe that.”
They continued on through the place, looking around, going from one section of the school to another.
Ashley: “Wow, I really have to admit that I’m impressed.”
Kahlee: “Yes, it has been a hard road, but the students and their families have supported us throughout all of this.”
Miranda: “I’m really sorry for what had happened here. I know I had no part in it, but being that I used to work for Cerberus, I can’t have but feel partially responsible for what they did.”
Kahlee: “No need, Miranda. I’m just glad that you were able to leave that corporation.”
Miranda: “I admit, I knew about their shady past, but they did help me out of my horrible predicament and living situation, so I felt like I had to return the favor.”
Ashley: “I would hold it against you if I wasn’t aware that you felt you needed to owe them. Despite some of the good that Cerberus did, it barely did anything to justify a lot of the horrible things that they did.”
Tali: “Oh, I can get behind that 100%.”
Jack: “You and me both, Tali, but no one knows that better than I do.”
Tali: “Oh, I’m very well aware of that.”
Star: “So, what was Cerberus?”
Ashley: “Cerberus was a corporation run by humans.”
EDI: “Their goal was to enhance human ingenuity in all fields in technology.”
Miranda: “It was meant to be the human equivalence of special groups formed by aliens, such as the salarian’s Special Tasks Group. We intended to advance ourselves just as quickly and efficiently as all the alien groups.”
Ashley: “Unfortunately, the corporation, itself, developed a bad reputation amongst aliens and other humans and for a lot of good reasons. They did a lot of terrible things. Even the Alliance greatly detested them.”
Splash: “What kind of horrible things did they do?”
Garrus: “They performed a lot of sick and cruel experiments on aliens. They were hardly above abducting or even murdering and their cruel experiments weren’t even limited on aliens. They did a lot of terrible things to other humans as well.”
Ashley: “Which was exactly why the Alliance never liked them.”
Garrus: “They were also seen as terrorists because a lot of their actions pretty much made them exactly that.”
Jack: “They were also not above experimenting on kids. I should know; I was one of them!!”
Flare: “Wow, all of that sounded terrible. No wonder why they developed such a horrible reputation.”
Star: “But why did they do such terrible things if they were meant to enhance ingenuity?”
Tali: “Because the man who ran it was a terrible sociopath.”
Miranda: “Cerberus was run by a man who we have addressed as the Illusive Man. There was a lot about him that not many knew about. His past is a complete mystery; no one even knew his real name.”
Aera: “And yet, there were people who were willing to follow this man.”
Jewel forged another jewel in her hand.
Ashley: “Yes, those who were xenophobic towards alien, hence why they would work under him. Although some joined because they wanted to enhance human ingenuity. I. myself, wasn’t exactly fond of aliens, but I would never work with a group who was known for terrorism, especially towards other humans.”
Flare: “I never would have guessed.”
Kahlee: “Thankfully, the corporation, itself, has completely disbanded after the Illusive Man was killed near the end of the Reaper war.”
Garrus: “Thank goodness. The b****** couldn’t die soon enough.”
Miranda: “But not before some of us left, myself and Jacob included.”
Star: “Jacob seems like such a nice guy. Why would he join Cerberus?”
Miranda: “Perhaps you should ask him, yourself, Star. I’m sure he would love to tell you everything.”
Star: “OK, I’ll do just that.”
Jewel: “Hmm…..”
Jewel seemed displeased as she looked into the jewel in her hand.
Star: “So, Jack, you sound as though you hold a serious grudge against Cerberus. Perhaps you would like to tell us what they did to you that made you so angry.”
Jack: “To say that I hold a grudge against them would be putting it far too lightly. I was held at a facility on Pragia when I was a little girl. Throughout most of my stay there, I was kept in a cell. I was drugged, tortured, experimented on, everyone there hated me. The doctors, the other kids.”
Star: “There were other kids there!?!”
Jack: “Yes! Like I said, Cerberus was not above experimenting on kids. Also, a lot of those kids weren’t obtained legitimately and many of them died under their “care”.”
Flare: “How horrible…..!!!!”
Jack: “Some died while being imported, others died during a lot of their cruel experiments.”
Aera: “All of this was done privately, I presume.”
Miranda: “Yes, on a secluded planet known is Pragia.”
Ashley: “Pragia isn’t exactly a well-populated planet, so it would be a great place to build a private facility away from the public and law enforcers.”
Aera: “That does make perfect sense.”
Star: “Your thoughts on this, Dr. Solus?”
Mordin: “Horrible! Unacceptable! Inhumane!! Such practices truly heinous, especially towards children!!”
Garrus: “Yeah, a lot of this is illegal for good reasons.”
Aera: “Heh! That would be apparent.”
Jewel: “I wonder what everyone back at home would think of this.”
Liara: “They would be greatly appalled to hear this, wouldn’t they?”
Jewel turned her eyes to to her left with a displeased look on her face.
Jewel: “Some would….”
Liara looked at her in a concerned manner.
Splash: “Wow, I can’t believe that happened to you.”
Star: “But why did they experiment on all those children?”
Jack: “They were trying to forge a powerful biotic. I was their main test subject and tried to make me the most powerful biotic that they could ever conceive.”
Aera: “I bet that backfired horribly.”
Jack: “Damn right it did!! I killed those b*******, every single one of them. Left that place with barely any survivors.”
Splash: “Oh, how horrible….!!!!”
Star: “Including the other children!?!”
Jack: “Yep, not like they gave me a choice, it was either me or them and it was pretty much everyone for themselves.”
Aera: “I can’t say I approve of what you did, but I can’t really blame you, either. You were in a horrible place where horrible things were done to you.”
Splash: “I don’t know what we would have done if we were in that kind of position.”
Aera: “And I thought we had rough childhoods.”
Star: “Yeah, even mine seems lenient in comparison, but it still wasn’t an easy one and I still won’t stop complaining about it.”
Aera: “Complain away, Star. You have every right to after the crap that you had to deal with.”
Star: “Gladly.”
Jack: “Umm….what’s with her?”
Liara: “We have a reason to believe that she had a difficult past but neither she nor her friends disclosed what she had been through, not yet.”
Ashley: “So far, they usually just sulk and vaguely give out their experiences.”
Garrus: “We have our suspicions of the kind of things that go on back at their home, things that lead us to believe that their lives haven’t exactly been happy ones.”
Liara: “From what we can tell, their experiences have been too painful for them to disclose to us.”
Jack: “Huh, is that right? Well…..I’ll do whatever I can for them. My past may be far worse than what they’ve been through, but that doesn’t make theirs seem truly better.”
Miranda: “They would appreciate that very much. We must also really put forth the effort to do what we must for them, even if it makes neither of us happy.”
Jack sulked for a bit.
Jack: “Yeah….I think I can do that….”
Both women smiled at each other.
Star: “So…mind telling me what they did here that you guys are still “recovering” from?”
Kahlee: “A Cerberus invasion. They attempted to abduct the students here.”
Jewel: “Why would they do that?”
Jack: “The same reason why they were so interested in me. Some of the students here are biotics.”
Aera: “Biotics!?! Really? Some of these students are biotics?”
Kahlee: “Of course, biotics are always welcome to be part of this school. We even have special courses for such students. When Jack became part of our academy, she has been a wonderful instructor many of our biotics as well as a terrific role-model.”
Miranda: “Which was surprising, given her…..shady past.”
Star: “Her past as a Cerberus test subject?”
Miranda: “Not necessarily. Before we met Jack, she was a criminal who had committed countless crimes throughout the entire galaxy. Not that we’re faulting her on that.”
Jack: “Yeah, thanks for keeping it subtle.”
Miranda: “My pleasure.”
Kahlee: “We are very well aware of Jack’s criminal past, but when she became a part of this school, it has served as a character-building experience from her.”
Garrus: “Heh! No kidding, when we first met her, we extracted her from the Purgatory. That…was an interesting mission.”
Star: “Because Jack was jailed?”
Garrus: “That and the facility was…less than decent.”
Aera: “I’d love to hear that story later.”
Jack: “I admit, I was displeased with you guys wanting me to join your crew, especially since your ship was owned by Cerberus, but…it was probably the best thing to have ever happened to me.”
Miranda: “So glad we actually did something good for you. Your distrustfulness towards us was a little unnerving but completely understandable, given your past.”
Jack: “You’ve got that right, sweetie.”
Aera: “And the story continues.”
Kahlee: “So…how has the search for answers regarding these…strange occurrences going?”
Liara: “There’s still much we don’t know, not yet.”
Ashley: “Yes, but…we’ve managed to hit a huge dent in all of this.”
Kahlee: “What? You’ve found out a lot about what’s been happening?”
Liara: “Yes, and it’s all thanks to these girls.”
Kahlee: “How so?”
Ashley: “Upon their arrival here, they provided us with a vital clue to this mystery.”
Liara: “Yes, one such that is in the form of their magical powers.”
Jack: “Um…sorry, I don’t understand what that means.”
Miranda: “Well, we already informed you guys that Mordin had been asked to look into this mystery as soon as he awoke from his coma.”
Jack: “Yeah and no doubt him being alive is part of that mystery.”
Ashley: “After he analyzed the girls’ magical powers, he found out something very shocking.”
Liara: “And it is very much connected to the mysterious readings that have been showing up throughout the entire galaxy.”
EDI: “Thanks to these findings, we made a very crucial discovery; that these magical readings consisted of magical energy.”
Jack: “Magic? You mean magic is actually real?”
Liara: “Yes, very much real and there is no doubt that they have been responsible for the mysterious, miraculous survivals.”
Jack: “Whoa…!!! No way!! Is this all true?”
Miranda: “Yes, very much, although there is still much we don’t know, there is no doubt that magic had something to do with those survivals. How and why is still something that we haven’t found out yet.”
Jack: “So, magic had been what’s been saving so many of those people. I wonder why it’s happening now.”
Miranda: “That we still don’t know, either, but we will find answers to many of those questions. There’s still much that we can’t uncover with just the discovery of magic.”
EDI: “Indeed, such a miraculous phenomenon could have easily prevented the Reaper invasion long before the start of the first one.”
Garrus: “But we all know how that turned out.”
Liara: “Indeed.”
Tali: “So, yeah, there is still much more to this mystery.”
Jack: “You don’t need to convince me of that.”
Kahlee: “Yes, that much is true….it….it’s just so hard to think about….everything that’s been going on, how they turned out and why they haven’t any other way. I really hope we do find the answers to all of this.”
Ashley: “Yeah, I’d like that, too.
Everyone became silent as they lamented about this.
Kahlee: “In the meantime, is there anything you would like from us?”
Liara: “If it would be OK, we would like to have the girls enrolled here as honorary students.”
Kahlee: “For what? Not many of us know much about these girls or their…magical powers.”
Liara: “That’s no problem, we can provide you with all that we were able to find out. It can help teach us about how we can help enhance and improve their powers.”
Jewel: “Are you sure about that?”
Ashley: “Well, it’s just a thought, the Normandy isn’t exactly an ideal place to help train you girls with your powers. This school can provide us with more materials and resources to help with that.”
Star: “But…we want to stay on the Normandy with you guys, with Dr. Solus.”
Miranda: “Not to worry, this is just another option aside from the Normandy. Also, no need to worry about Mordin. He will stay by you at all times during your training.”
Mordin: “Indeed, will need to stay to monitor your training and collect intel on your powers.”
Star: “Really!?! You would!?! Oh, thank goodness!!!! Nothing would make me happier than that!!!”
Jack was seen weirded out by Star.
Jack: “Geez, I really would want to hear her story.”
Garrus: “We all do, although….I’m sure if I actually would want to…”
Star: “Now then, shall we get started on giving you guys a crash course?”
Jack: “Hell, yeah!! I really want to see your powers and see what you…uh…magical girls can do.”
Star: “That won’t be a problem! We’ve been itching to display our powers for a bit now.”
Aera: “Let’s not try to overdue it. Remember, you’ll impress the doc just fine without trying too hard.”
Star: “Get off my back with that, Aera.”
Jewel: “Well…if that’s what you feel we should do, then I guess we can do that. We can come here as much as we need to and we look forward to working with a school system that would actually….”
Just then, she was instantly startled by something as she looked nearly behind her.
Jewel: “Oh, no!”
She and her friends rushed off in another direction, everyone else followed after her.
