this is your last chance to speculate about the new dlc The Pitt'

time for some wiki chilen

The Pitt was originally a place of pure chaos, full of rape gangs and torture squads. As part of the early recon when the Brotherhood of Steel first arrived in the East Coast area, Owyn Lyons led his paladins in an attack against the Pitt from over Mount Wash, later called "The Scourge". Even though they were completely outnumbered, they still razed the place to the ground.

As they swept through the Pitt the Brotherhood policed up every non-mutated child they could find, of which there were around twenty. Lyons brought the children back to the Citadel, which was still under construction, and enlisted them into the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel. One of these children grew up to be Paladin Kodiak.

While not as much of a threat as before the Scourge, the Pitt is still a center of raider and slaver activity.

trivia

* The Pitt oddly resembles in much detail to the 1987 Marvel comic The Pitt

* In the Welcome to the Pitt screenshot[1], the bridge pictured in the screenshot is known as the South Tenth Street Bridge.[2]

* The change in the color of the bridge from yellow to an ocean green could be a result of the evaporating radiated waters from the river below the bridge.

* Several buildings in the background including the Mellon Bank building and USX Tower are real buildings in down town Pittsburgh.

* It is debatable that any of the bridges in the remains of Pittsburgh would be left standing after 200 years in the Fallout universe. Several bridges in the modern, real life Pittsburgh have been renovated several times over the past 30 years. Over time in the Fallout universe, realistically the bridges would rust and deteriorate to the extremes of them being non-existent due to the evaporation of the irradiated river water below.

(those trival pricks always poking holes in stuff)

The Pitt will be arriving March 24.

The upcoming DLC will be going for 800 Microsoft Points ($10) on both Xbox 360 and Game for Windows Live. Naturally, the new content will take place in Pittsburgh, and will introduce new weapons while focusing on the conflict between slaves and slavers.

Time to start thinking about that Auto Axe.

interview with gamespy

Blinzler, Pyros and Briosafreak had the chance to ask some questions to Jeff Gardiner about the Fallout 3 downloadable content The Pitt, and we got some really good answers for you.

Hello Jeff, do tell us a bit about yourself first.

Hello there! I’m a Senior Producer at Bethesda Game Studios, Lead Producer of all the DLC. Long, long ago I was a Designer on the West Coast.

Tell us about the art direction of The Pitt, will it be a unique and recognizable area?

It’s very unique. Pittsburgh isn’t bombed out, so it’s collapsing under years of decay and neglect. The Raiders that have take over have propped up the area with sheet metal catwalks and their typical displays of flayed corpses and spray paint. The smog from the still working steal factory looms overhead, its blue black smoke contrasting the red and orange hues of the building below.

Who's doing the writing?

The bulk of The Pitt was written and designed by Erik Caponi and Fred Zeleny. Two Pittsburgh natives, both excellent and darkly ironic writers.

What was the creative process behind creating the Auto-Axe? That isn't something you see every day.

Our weapon expert, Dane Olds, is a big fan of power-tools. When we wanted a new melee weapon, he took that expertise and melded it with his creative vision and created the AutoAxe. It’s a thing of beauty.

Fallout 3's modding scene is very active and productive. Are you keeping an eye on this? Got any inspiration from it?

I’m thrilled to be making games where we release our editors to the public at large, allowing them to customize and expand on the game. We’re always watching YouTube videos of the craziness they create. Several developers here wait a bit for the scene to ‘mature,’ and then will download the top mods and play the game with them. It offers us the ability to enjoy our game in a way we wouldn’t otherwise be able to, having spent hundreds of hours creating it ourselves.

Will the DLC be linear or offer different solutions - good/evil, sneak/talk/shoot etc.?

The Pitt is much more of ‘standard Fallout 3’ fair. Lots of morally grey choices, dialogue, hidden agendas, secret by-ways, short-cuts and pit falls.

Will it be as long to complete as Operation Anchorage, a bit more, a bit less?

It will be about the same amount of time – however the Raider settlement will be forever open to players who purchase the content, and there are several repeatable quests that unlock as well.

So why will your character travel to Pittsburgh, what's the motivation?

The Pitt opens with the player encountering an escaped slave from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The slave, Werhner, claims that the leader of “the Pitt” has created a cure for mutations… Once inside the Pitt the player will take on the role of a Slave – they’ll have to find work, and figure out how to gain audience with raider boss. From there things could start to devolve depending heavily on how the player chooses to proceed.

We heard there will be an Arena, Mad Max style. Can you tell us more about that part of the DLC?

At a certain point in the quest the player will have to prove their worth and fight a series of battles in the Pitt, a fighting area situated underneath the Steel Mill. Raiders climb the fence above the pitt as the player is challenged variety of foes. Each fight starts with barrels of toxic radiation being dropped down, which adds an additional element of tension. Depending on the player’s previous choices and allegiances, they’ll have different weaponry and other unique items at their disposal.

Will we get to see a more "human side" of the Raiders due to the close contact with them in the Pitt, or are they as brutal and nasty as ever?

You will get to interact with the Raiders in a much more intimate way in The Pitt. That being said, the bulk of them are still as brutal and nasty as ever.

Are there any new weapons and armor?

There are several new Raider Armors, and a new stylized Power Armor. There’s also the aforementioned AutoAxe, and a new Silence Scoped automatic rifle entitled “The Infiltrator.”

How about new creatures?

The new content will feature Trogs; subhuman life forms so mutated from the unique radioactive sludge found in Pittsburgh that they scurry around on all fours, fear the light, and hunt in large packs.

Tell us about the new perks.

There are three new perks. One adds to the killing efficacy of the AutoAxe. One is related to all of the high-dose radiation the player will inevitable encounter, and the third is rewarded after completing a “Pitt fight.”

The Achievements for Operation Anchorage were fairly linear. Will the achievements for The Pitt be the same way?

Three of the four relate to completing stages of the quest. One is much more difficult, it involves the player finding the majority of the ‘Steel Ingots’ found throughout the area.

Can we return to the Pitt later on the game?

Yes, once you’ve completed the quest you can return at any time.

Any hints about what can we expect on the third DLC?

It’s the best of the best – raised level cap, lots of new high end weaponry and armor, and tons of tweaked and new creatures. Plus a whole new quest line, and new ending to the game. It’s pure awesomeness.

cut out some boring stuff to shorten the thread a little**********************************

so new weapons armor perks and a raised level cap sounds great

now by reading your post i have seen how much you disliked O:A (most of you) but personally this has been my first Fallout game and i enjoyed A:O the only thing i didnt like was how short it was and how linear and repetitive

that been said i have high expectations for this game

Dunno...

I'm currently sitting in the 24th of March GMT (UK), just waiting for GfWL to let me download it already. The net says it won't be March 24th in Washington DC until an hour from now, but I still don't know whether GfWL will let people download then...

Well to be honest, all that text just makes me want to wait for what's going to be in the 3rd DLC as it sounds more content rich just by that last sentance.

PLUS, I absolutely hate the Microsoft Point system where they won't let me buy in 100 point increments so they get to steal my extra money.

800 points for OA

800 points for Pitt

Buy 500 points

Buy 500 points

Buy 500 points

Oops still 100 points shy to buy both DLC

Buy 500 points

Oops, now I've got 400 points sitting there rotting until the 3rd DLC...

Buy 500 points

Now I've got 900 points and buy the 3rd DLC and have 100 points wasted.

It's for the birds, M$ is making out like bandits and Im not falling for it *again*.

LET ME JUST PAY FOR THE EXACT AMOUNT OF THE DLC's!!!!!

So you've never, ever, bought anything else with your points? No themes, gamer pictures, or (heaven forbid) an XBLA game? Sure, I'd like to be able to buy in other units than 500 - one DLC I bought was 80 points, which would surely enrage you - but it's nothing to get worked up about.

I don't get worked up, no heart attacks in my future I hope.

Nope, I've never bought a gamer pic, find them to be a waste of points/money, themes, no thanks, not for me, I do admit however to buying some community games, but it felt like a forced purchase, you see I was trying to finally get my balance down to 0 so that M$ wasn't keeping any of my "points"/cash, and ended up having to buy more points to eventually get to the point where buying the community games finally reduced me down to 0 points. Yeah I know, buying community games that I didn't intend to buy in the first place only wastes my money. but I'd rather that than allow M$ to keep the money sitting in their accounts.

I think I've actually got 40 points stored up, but I refuse to go buy more points to buy a community game again to try to get my points back down to 0, they can keep the $0.23c or what ever 40 points actually works out to *this time*.

Seriously, it just annoys me that it's a total scam on M$'s part, even though its perfectly legal. But Xbox gamers are much more willing to part with their money in this fashion, they are used to it I guess, I always laugh when I see people talking about how it's only 800 points or it's only 600 points as if the points have absolutely ZERO monetary value. In fact I know many console only gamers that really don't put a monetary value on the points, however I don't know if they bought the points or if someone bought them for them as I don't know them personally, I do know that I buy my own since Im long long passed living at home and relying on my parents (ummm let's just say over 30 years ago I left home).

Anyway... Perhaps if Bethesda puts out another DLC that can balance the points system then I might go for buying all of them if it all balances out in the end, but Im pretty hardcore against M$ keeping money for months and months until something else comes along that I might want to purchase. Hell I haven't even turned on my 360 in over 45 days and Fallout 3 is the only game that I own that is this windows games live thingy, of which most of the people that I converse with on other game forums absolutely HATE this windows live thing and have refused to buy the DLC for F3 because they can't just out and out buy it. They don't wish to use the point system either. I think M$'s explanation of why they use the point system is pretty much bunk (from what I read, they use it so that anybody in the world can buy the DLC's) but in reality some bean counters are laughing their butts off at how many points go unspent or are spent on stuff that people had no intention of buying, plus they know people will do exactly as I did and buy more points to eventually get everything to try to balance back down at 0. It's a laugh, seriously, Im laughing about it, I'm not worked up at all even though my words on this forum may appear that way, Im not worked up about it at all, Im laughing at all the people who try to balance out at 0 like I did, it's a hoot.

Well, I hear tell that Fallout 3 and/or OA were available on Steam.. I suspect they would allow you to purchase the game/expansion for the exact amount. THough since you've got the game from Live, it might be too late. *shrugs*

I kinda like having the Windows Live thing, if just for the ability to keep the gameplay in sync with my profile... which is funny because the PC version occupies a different slot than the 360 version. The PC version is also nice for the ability to mod, which is the main draw... since my PC isn't a sweet gaming rig, the graphics are less than my 360, but changing armor, characters, plot, etc is a balancer for me. As far as who buys the points... I buy my own, and I know that they have a monetary value. I don't know why they couldn't just say 'this costs $10'... some exec in 360-land must've thought it sounded better if they called them 'points'.

Well, somehow I stumbled across some other information, which is that if I signup (free) to zune, they allow me to buy M$ points in 400 point increments (which makes sence) and are interchangeable with the windows live site (when I signed up with my email address, they automatically knew my gamertag and my 40 point balance so they must be intertwined), so that allows me to buy exactly the DLC amount, 400+400 so that's a good thing, now I know where to buy Microsoft Points to avoid having leftover amounts sitting in the Microsoft coffers.

Yeah either they thought it sounded "cheaper" to call things by points, or they really know what they're doing and know that theres a ton of xtra points sitting in the Microsoft accounts not having to be disbursed to anybody but instead just gathering interest in Microsofts name. However it's likely to that they call it points for the reason that I mentioned previously in that *some* people don't put a monetary value on the points after buying them.

But whatever it is, apparently Zune will allow me to buy DLC at the exact amount instead of having leftover points wasted for who knows how long.

Now I'll just wait to see what MS and Bethesda does with their Corrupted file incident that's affected English speaking Xbox 360 content, just out of curiosity since Im on the PC, but have also been reading about the PC version of the DLC crashing at the same spot for multiple people so no point running off to buy it just yet until it's all resolved and working as best as it can.

If you're asking me, I've already closed that browser window, however heres a message on the gamespot forum that I found regarding buying the MS points in 400 point increments:
