Halororor Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I just had a random thought, how about if they made the next Tes title a squad based game, say like you choose a class and the game randomly creates team-mates of differing classes for you to suit your play style. For example, you play Spellsword and you get an archer companion and a mage with restoration magic. Of course they'd have to be more than companions, they'd have to be integral parts of the story, like each of them has their own background and all and you can tell them to act differently in different situations, thus making the game less linear.Might be a good idea, might not. Voice your thoughts on the matter.
Monolithic0117 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Never. TES should never be a squad-based game. It doesn't fit in with the theme, and it's not a party RPG like Baldur's Gate. Sure, it would be reasonable to include a few companions, but not something like this. I'd rather play Mass Effect or Baldur's Gate if I wanted to manage parties.
stormdrooper1 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I'm afraid I would have to agree with Monolithic, and judging by Bethesda's attempt at companions in Fallout 3 you can see why it might not be good as they tend to be a little suicidal and run all over the show. But thats just my view :)
Sin911 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 It would be a totally different type of game. I might enjoy it under a different game setting, but not Elder Scrolls. I like the Elder Scrolls games for being the single player experience they are. Now companions in the sense Monolithic0117 mentioned would be fine, but even then I would like the option to opt out :)
Halororor Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Okay, but let's say they made one that wasn't in line with the TES lore or maybe not even the world itself. What if they made a whole new fantasy world with different lore and everything's new? Do you guys think it would make a decent game then?
lunarisnebula Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 then it would not be named elder scrolls an totaly new game O.oi think a squad bassed tes game would not be tes anymore i dunno what gonna happen in tes 5 but my guess is that now as the emporer is dead and there is no more royal bloodline the imperial era is over and the provinces are free to rule themselfs may be there is gonna be war or something and you gonna chose a province to support O.o i dunno its just a guess or may be more a whish in fact the only great wish i have is that tes 5 gonna get more dept like it was in morrowind i also think the skills in oblivion are just pathetic compared to morrowind hope they are not going to cut off evan more skills like in the end you got only 4 skills like magic, meele, ranged and armor or something like that XD so i would even not got that much bothered by a squad system then by cutting of skills and stuff but i would be very pleased by a party system ore something you can use for escort quests and stuff cos in oblivion i just got sometimes in rage with the stupid npcs and the system they use to follow like going around about 100 meters insted of jumping of a step but jump inside a spiked pit XD

A lot of games exist that are party-based and take place in different worlds. You could just play one of those. Isn't this about TES?
SpacemanSpIiff Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 The long answer is: No. Not in the Elderscrolls, keep it single player, keep it single hero.
