Chemist18
I just finished building me a new computer. I made the HUGE mistake of installing Vista on it :( My previous system used 64-bit XP Professional and I had no issues whatsoever. Previous system was:Windows XP 64-bit ProfessionalAMD Athlon 64 FX-552 x 8800GT2GB DDR2 RAMAsus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard With Vista I can play Fallout 3 as long as I don't select ANY esp files. I've tried a number of esp files, all of which ran with no issues in XP. I figure the problem is related to the UAC. I turned it off or tried two. I run msconfig and select to turn off UAC, Vista reports it was successful, I reboot, and I have to log in as "Administrator". Anyone know a solution? Besides buying XP 64-bit? My system:Vista Ultimate 64-BitIntel Core i7 920 @ 2670 MHz2 x 8800GT6GB DDR3 RAMEVGA x58 3x SLI motherboard
Chemist18
I think I figured out what the problem is. I tried to open a couple of the .esp files in GECK. The GECK crashed each time because it couldn't find Anchorage.esm. I swear that my personal plugins don't use any assets from Anchorage but I could be wrong. As soon as I figure out how to transfer the files from my old hard drive I'll verify. I installed my old hard drive in an external case. Windows Vista sees it as a "Malfunctioning USP device". So perhaps the whole issue is me prematurely passing judgement on Vista? So far after 9 hours of working in Vista I thoroughly HATE IT!!!!
Michlo
I would say yes, it is a case of premature judgment. I've used Vista since the Beta. At home I'm using Vista 64 on one box, Windows 7 on another and XP on my laptop. I've no issues or problems with Vista. If you don't like it from an aesthetic point of view then that's that, it is your preference. From a peformance point of view, however, for one, it is the way of the future, for another, most of the issues people were having early on were resolved with the service packs. I always have my games on a different partition to my system files or my data partitions so I never experienced this but some people suggested better working of games when the game wasn't installed on C. Of course, make sure you have all of the appropriate patches and good luck.
Circuitous
When you're in Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data is there a tab at the top that says "Compatibility files", and does clicking it show you all of your ESP files? Virtualization can be a female dog.
Chemist18
The problem was indeed the missing Anchorage.esm. As for Vista, my biggest problem with it is all the "Windows needs your permission..." over and over. The rest I'll get used to in time. It's just hard to find the things I'm used to using.
